listen to your heart 😌

"Can You Handle Your Emotions?"
Emotions are... eh. We all have them, whether we want to or not. Some people have control over their emotions, and some people let their emotions control them. Where does your character fall on this spectrum? More importantly, what's their relationship with their emotions like? Do they bury everything deep, deep down inside, or are they the first one to cry over a sappy movie? Do they even know how they feel about what's going on inside? Pretty meta stuff.
  • No blank top-levels.
  • Instead, characters are to respond to the proposed question: can you handle your emotions? / are you in touch with your feelings?
  • Get deep. Look within. Hear, think feel... or don't.

[Dex reached over, running his thumb and two forefingers along the back of Soap's hand before turning it over and running them over his palm there before coming to a halt at the thin skin on his wrist, placed right at his pulse point.]

You wouldn't want to be at 0%. Trust me. It's no way to live, not when you can't feel the same way about anyone else the way they feel about you.

[Soap’s pulse quickened with the way Dex ran his thumb and two forefingers along his hand. He knew he was being needy, a habit that was hard to break from and he should work on it. But he couldn’t bring himself to pull away from Dex’s touch. Not today.]

Why no’? Feeling 0% is safe, but letting them rush all back in at 100% or stay at a 100%? Aye, there’s a liability. I thought we were talking about how we handle feelings, Dex, no’ about how feelings make us feel about someone. So tell me, how do you handle the switch from 0% to 100% so fast?

[That softness that Dex reserves solely for Soap in his eyes, it dies down and hides underneath the surface. It'll be a while before it comes back out again.]

Most of the time? I don't handle it. Not very well anyway. I lash out and just want to hurt anyone who is in my way without caring what else happens, either to them or me.

[Soap is very aware of Dex’s sudden change and for the briefest moment he thinks he should pull back. But the dumbass that he is sees the danger and rushes straight into it. His New Year Eve’s goal were all shot to hell with this one; no use trying to fix it now. His gaze stayed on Dex as he leaned further into the cold that never scared him, and he twinned his fingers around Dex’s, holding on.]

Aye, I know you dinnae handle emotions well, but you’re here now. Tell me, where you go when you’re like this at 0%.

[He was used to people backing off and leaving him a long time before they got to this point, one where Dex explained what was going on in that head of his at moments like this. So it took him aback for a moment and got him off-balance.]

It's like.... [He thought for a moment, trying to come up with an appropriate simile or metaphor that would make sense.] ....like a switch gets flipped. The same way you turn a lamp or off. One second they're all right there and I can feel everything. The next, it's not that they're gone, they're just buried down beneath everything else in my head based in things like logic and what will give me the satisfaction in the moment. They're so far down that they can't rise back up to the surface.
