Everyone knows the feeling of when you see someone and you know you've seen them before. Isn't that a part of déjà vu? But what if the connection you have with that person goes beyond the superficial recognition of familiarity? Perhaps you were connected once...in the most intimate of ways. Some religions and philosophies believe in reincarnation of souls, and it's said that souls could be reincarnated together - once again to follow out the same path they did before.
Or maybe not. Maybe it could be a second chance for fixing things that went wrong before, like the a tragedy or circumstances keeping you apart. But can you take that chance? Do you even want to?
HOW TO PLAY- Comment with your character, stating preferences and pertinent information.
- Tag around to others and roll the RNG to determine what your scenario will be.
- The first roll determines the parameters of the "past life," the second the parameters of the "present life." The meme is intended to take place in the present, but there's nothing stopping you from playing out flashbacks to the "past."
- Play out the scene!
- WARNING: There will probably be triggers here.
| | A. THE PAST- Medieval: The two of you lived in the middle ages or an equal high fantasy setting. Kings, queens, knights, wizards, your doomed love was set among the sword and shield.
- Feudal Japan: During this time, honor reigned supreme and warriors lived and died by the sword. Perhaps the two of you lived here?
- War: World War I, World War II, World War...III? Whatever the tension was, the two of you weren't living in happy times.
- Not Human: You were gods, demons, monsters, angels - or at least one of you was.
- Sci-Fi: The two of you found love in a world of science and technology...maybe a base on the moon?
- Taboo: In a past life, the two of you were related, yet still somehow fell in love. Or perhaps there was a big age gap, or different social standings. Whatever it was, your affection was "wrong," somehow.
- Intended for Someone Else: One of you was engaged, intended, or taken by someone else.
- Not Allowed: For some reason, you couldn't have your love back then.
- Tragically Cut Short: Somehow, your love ended in tragedy and one of you died.
- Living Happily Ever After: The two of you grew old together, had a family, the whole shebang, and died of old age. As a reward, you get to be with your loved one again.
- WILDCARD or CHOOSE YOUR OWN
B. THE PRESENT- (Not So) First Meeting: You could swear you've seen this person before...but where?
- Need to Be Near You: You don't know why, but you have to be close to this person, to protect them, to love them.
- Memories: You're having memories of your past life and it's freaking you out.
- The Reveal: Somehow, the truth is revealed to you about who you used to be and what you life was like with this person.
- But I'm Taken: Unfortunately, you've already moved on to someone else who doesn't fit into the picture of your past.
- You Have to Be With Me: You're determined to rejoin with your past lover...even if they're not interested.
- He Doesn't See Me: You're afraid your lover only sees the past "you" and not the you who exists now. Are they in love with a memory?
- Madness Ensues: It's getting hard for you to tell which life is the "real" one, the one you have now or the one in the past. Perhaps you only see one way of release: becoming reincarnated again.
- It All Worked Out: The battles are fought, the war is one. You've earned your happy ending in this life and the two of you can live together.
- WILDCARD or CHOOSE YOUR OWN

proposals after surviving deathiversary, then?
Because most days, he can bury himself in his work. Most days, he can forget that he's got a past life banging around in the core of his bones and simply focus deeply on the life he's living now. Most days, it's uncomplicated to come home and press adoring kisses to Archie's cheeks and lips, to enjoy the freedom that comes in this day and age--to relish the fact that they've found one another again.
But this week is different.
All he's dreamed about for a month is the last terrible days. All he's seen when he closed his eyes for the last month is blood gurgling up over Archie's lips, the strain in Archie's features before the tribunal; the tears in Archie's eyes as the end drew too close to ignore.
He's been working hard since before he even graduated. He's been saving up vacation days and sacrificing weekends. He hasn't been doing it explicitly for this, but he's glad to have the time now.
Horatio is absolutely taking this week off to stay stuck to his long-term boyfriend's side, to keep his hand on the other man's wrist and his sharp eyes flicking over the entire world with a distinct lack of trust. That's not more or less unusual, surely, than the fact they've been half-recalling their past lives since meeting in college.
gasp yes very good
This past month or so has been an exception. This past month hasn't earned quite so many nightmares on Archie's part, but he doesn't sleep well knowing Horatio isn't.
And, well, it's hard to do much of anything with a boyfriend clinging tight like this.
"Love," he says softly, pressing a kiss against his cheek, "I need both hands to eat, mm?"
\o/ <3
That, as much as anything, is what has him clinging tight like this. It also has his arms a little heavier than usual as he clings around Archie's arm, unconsciously tight and cramped in against his chest.
It takes a moment to blink and release his hold. It takes barely another second for his arms to instead find their way to wrapping around Archie's shoulders.
"Hm."
<333
There's a fondness in his voice as he halts his attempts to eat to press another kiss against his cheek.
"'m still here. I'm not going anywhere."
That's important for him to affirm.

... But that's all rumor, surely, even if he is an ex-soldier and ex-superhero who spends most of his time testing cartel boundaries. He shows up to the meeting with his USian handler (a blonde former Hollywood exec whose cat-eye reading glasses don't do anything to make her sharklike smile less unnerving) and translator (Alejandro speaks English, hell, he went to highschool in Toronto, but he's been claiming I've forgotten because I never use it for several years now), looking very much like someone who does not have a lot of patience but who is used to getting things done.
His wife was supposed to be here for this meeting, actually, not Alejandro at all, but that's just how life shakes out sometimes. When Mr Winters joins them, Alejandro rises and greets him, polite and amiable enough (entirely in Spanish with his translator rattling off the English in her low voice), and shakes his hand. He still has gloves on - thin black leather things that seem to serve no purpose, but that Sr Olin is always seen wearing in public.

Which is why he's utterly unprepared to meet him, to look over across the board room and see him. He's as smooth as silk, slick as they come; there's a reason he's been able to build this company up from the minor entity it'd started as. But he's awkward as a teenager as his heart tumbles over itself and he only just manages to shake his hand like a functional adult before his brain reboots and he's able to give a reasonable smile.
"Mr. Olin. How wonderful you could join us." How very wonderful. "Welcome to our offices. Is there anything I can get you?"
Spanish. Dammit. Missed my guess again. Of course my Spanish is abysmal.

Plainly: If this is going to be a bust, Alejandro isn't interested in having coffee with the man first. Let's just get to work, pal. His American liaison introduces herself and the translator, and the three of them are ready to get right down to business. Alejandro especially, who's definitely noticed their host's odd disposition. Is it the Mexican thing, he wonders, or something else? He can never be entirely sure how much of his reputation (or how much of what reputation) may be rolling around in someone else's head.
"I'll be honest with you," he begins after they're seated, "I don't think importing prescription drugs from the US is viable long-term, and I don't think it's a good solution to anything. I'm not going to sit here and promise you billions over the years because we both know that isn't happening. But the situation I'm looking at right now is a dire emergency and there needs to be some kind of relief that may need to last for..." Alejandro continues, his key points extrapolated on by his American liaison in frank English. She mostly handles the negotiation after his initial outline-- though he continues to watch Jon and interject here and there, or confirm something with a nod of his head.
There's something odd about the American man, he decides.

The second is a conversation that only Jon is hearing, and it's an old one, a memory flickering through his mind of a fussing Alexander complaining about their forces, their supplies, the state of their campaign as his own voice does it's best, honeyed even if it's frankness, to assure him that the situation is salvageable.
There's something else going on, but it isn't a conversation. Instead, it's just the realization that he has no idea of how to do what he's going to do except to do it. This may not go smoothly.
"Then we open a facility in Mexico,"seems like the simplest things. "I'd rely on you to scout the best location for us. And if we could start scouting talent in some of the universities there, I think it would be best. A home grown operation with our full support."
no subject
Opening a facility in Mexico is such an unexpected idea that his liaison falls abruptly silent, staring at him like he's insane, and Alejandro--
Laughs.
Sort of a delighted laugh, actually, not unlike when Alexander had some impossible strategic epiphany and was about to spell doom for a supposedly impenetrable position. His smile is a little dangerous and more than a little infectious despite it. "Have you ever dealt with organized crime, Mr Winters?" he asks as he leans forward, forearms resting on the table, hands clasped. Also of note: in perfect English, yes, there's definitely an accent but he also speaks with a might-as-well-be-native cadence. (His translator doesn't even blink.) "I mean from the underside of it. The mechanics side of it. Not punching the results in the streets."
no subject
He knows the answer and it's simple enough. Alexander would remember it again. Eventually.
"More than you'd probably think," he says quietly, though his tone stays even. He won't laugh at the change in language. Alexander is never for his amusement, and the moment is too fragile right now. They're speaking frankly.
"Why do you think I'd look to your expertise? Or do you think there's a better solution?"
