Everyone knows the feeling of when you see someone and you know you've seen them before. Isn't that a part of déjà vu? But what if the connection you have with that person goes beyond the superficial recognition of familiarity? Perhaps you were connected once...in the most intimate of ways. Some religions and philosophies believe in reincarnation of souls, and it's said that souls could be reincarnated together - once again to follow out the same path they did before. Or maybe not. Maybe it could be a second chance for fixing things that went wrong before, like the a tragedy or circumstances keeping you apart. But can you take that chance? Do you even want to? HOW TO PLAY Comment with your character, stating preferences and pertinent information. Tag around to others and roll the RNG to determine what your scenario will be. The first roll determines the parameters of the "past life," the second the parameters of the "present life." The meme is intended to take place in the present, but there's nothing stopping you from playing out flashbacks to the "past." Play out the scene! WARNING: There will probably be triggers here.		A. THE PAST Medieval: The two of you lived in the middle ages or an equal high fantasy setting. Kings, queens, knights, wizards, your doomed love was set among the sword and shield. Feudal Japan: During this time, honor reigned supreme and warriors lived and died by the sword. Perhaps the two of you lived here? War: World War I, World War II, World War...III? Whatever the tension was, the two of you weren't living in happy times. Not Human: You were gods, demons, monsters, angels - or at least one of you was. Sci-Fi: The two of you found love in a world of science and technology...maybe a base on the moon? Taboo: In a past life, the two of you were related, yet still somehow fell in love. Or perhaps there was a big age gap, or different social standings. Whatever it was, your affection was "wrong," somehow. Intended for Someone Else: One of you was engaged, intended, or taken by someone else. Not Allowed: For some reason, you couldn't have your love back then. Tragically Cut Short: Somehow, your love ended in tragedy and one of you died. Living Happily Ever After: The two of you grew old together, had a family, the whole shebang, and died of old age. As a reward, you get to be with your loved one again. WILDCARD or CHOOSE YOUR OWN B. THE PRESENT (Not So) First Meeting: You could swear you've seen this person before...but where? Need to Be Near You: You don't know why, but you have to be close to this person, to protect them, to love them. Memories: You're having memories of your past life and it's freaking you out. The Reveal: Somehow, the truth is revealed to you about who you used to be and what you life was like with this person. But I'm Taken: Unfortunately, you've already moved on to someone else who doesn't fit into the picture of your past. You Have to Be With Me: You're determined to rejoin with your past lover...even if they're not interested. He Doesn't See Me: You're afraid your lover only sees the past "you" and not the you who exists now. Are they in love with a memory? Madness Ensues: It's getting hard for you to tell which life is the "real" one, the one you have now or the one in the past. Perhaps you only see one way of release: becoming reincarnated again. It All Worked Out: The battles are fought, the war is one. You've earned your happy ending in this life and the two of you can live together. WILDCARD or CHOOSE YOUR OWN

"Oh, 'ratio."

There's a fondness in his voice as he halts his attempts to eat to press another kiss against his cheek.

"'m still here. I'm not going anywhere."

That's important for him to affirm.

Archie's here. Archie's warm and solid and real in his arms. Archie isn't going anywhere. Archie knows Horatio loves him. Archie's heard it a million times by now, sober and certain and not remotely hidden from the world.

This isn't then.

He still can't let go of his boyfriend. He still can't help but press his temple more firmly against Archie's, close and protective.

"Just-- this week."

They just need to make it through the longest Archie had lived, last time. They just need to get to where Horatio can breathe again.

"I know."

He's a little unsettled, too, if he's honest with himself, but things are so much better with Horatio here. With the fact they've clearly drifted from similarities to the life before. It makes this a little easier for him. A little.

(How odd, for a part of him to be so certain he's wounded. For a part of him to feel he's meant to be in agonizing pain or drifting towards blank numbness, by now.)

"But you've got t'make sure you're taking care of yourself, too, mm?"

"I am."

It's almost comprehensible. It's also somewhat muffled as he nuzzles around to press a firm kiss to Archie's cheek.

"I need-- this."

More than sleep. More than food. More than anything else, this week, he needs to feel the pulse of the man he loves.

"You're going to make yourself sick."

But it's not a real protest. It's affectionate as he smiles softly at the kiss.

Still, there is something genuine in his request as he murmurs, "Eat with me, please?"

That gentle coaxing always works. The easy murmuring always prompts action.

This action, of course, isn't much beyond shifting a little and slightly relaxing his arms. Surely Archie doesn't mind if Horatio eats over his shoulder.

Surely.

Archie doesn't mind. He is going to laugh a little, softly, but he doesn't mind. Feeling safe here is important, after all.

He'll wait til they've both gotten something more like a proper meal in them before murmuring anything else.

"I love you."

The nerves fell much farther away when they can press close like this. Admittedly, the nerves are also a little easier when he has actual food in his stomach.

It makes his own sigh easier when he ducks to press a kiss to Archie's shoulder.

"I-- love you."

An easy, contented hum at the kiss.

"And we're both safe and sound. And we're staying safe and sound for the foreseeable future, mm?"

"We-- are."

But he can't pulls himself back from staying buried against Archie's shoulder. He can't help his arm pulling a hair tighter.

"Just... give me this week, Archie."

"So long as you eat, sleep, and drink water as you're meant to in between all the-- fussing."

Because really, the fussing is fine as long as he manages that. And, well.

"And also 'f we can-- move t'the bed now. I want t'be able to cuddle you back."

His huff is soft. As his arms shift to untangle, one hand can't help moving to pat unconsciously against his boyfriend's chest.

(He's ripped Archie's shirt open nearly every night this week. He's needed to feel the solid, unmarred skin. He's needed to see the comforting certainty that Archie isn't dying.)

"I'm not-- fussing."

Another quiet laugh, once that contrasts with the gentleness in his expression as Horatio pats at his chest. There's a firm kiss to his cheek as he starts to move them towards the bedroom.

"If you say so, love."

"I do say so."

He'll behave himself, all the same. He'll move like a shadow, barely leaving the other man's side, but he'll grab his water bottle as he follows.

At least he's being good. That keeps Archie smiling as they head to bed. That has Archie doing them both a favor and tugging his shirt properly off before he settles in.

There's no rush of blood. No wound. There are precious few scars. It's a visible and important visual reminder of how things are different, now. It's necessary.

It helps. It helps to be able to let his fingers glance calmly over the other man's skin. It helps to know he'll be able to throw his arm protectively across the complete lack of injury when they do fall asleep.

He'll likely wind up sleeping with his cheek pressed to the other man's heart.

He'll likely actually sleep.

They'll both manage to sleep. It's so much easier a feat, when they're able to curl together like this. When there's the comforting warmth of Horatio's body sticking close.

He'll have to make sure to keep going shirtless when they finally turn in, for the rest of the week. At least he'll be able to ensure the other young man gets enough sleep, if nothing else.

It's much easier to sleep this way. There are still quite a few hours spent lying awake, listening to Archie's heartbeat.

Then, miraculously, the weak ends.

The week ends, and Archie's still there. Archie's still there when he wakes up, still grinning and warm and real. It's oddly impossible to sleep in the first 24 hours of understanding that they've truly made it.

Hopefully the nearly constant kisses will distract Archie from that.

The week ends. The week ends, and they're still together (he's still alive,) and Horatio's not fussing so much anymore. Archie's absolutely going to return each and every kiss with one of his own. It's hard not to be relieved, after all, when facing the truth of the fact that all of the worst parts of their old lives together are finally over. No longer a risk.

He'll still fuss to make sure they both get enough basic self-care achieved. It's just that, beyond that, he's absolutely going to be kissing the other young man until he's entirely out of breath.

Absolutely going to keep murmuring warm "I love you"s against his lips.

Archie fussing is the easy part. Archie has such a nice way about him, after all; a gentleness to his insistence when he nudges Horatio along. It's lovely. It's familiar.

They can almost fall back into a reasonable schedule again. He can actually leave for work, and actually sit in his own seat for dinner. The impulse to shower Archie with kisses doesn't fade much, however. The need to sleep with his cheek pressed to Archie's chest doesn't go away.

He's asked Bush a million times how to do it. He's talked around it at Pellew a dozen times as well. In the end, he can't remember what either of them said and simply stumbles through while he finishes making breakfast.

"May-- I ask you something?"

"Of course."

Really, Archie is surprised he's even asked. It's got him glancing up at him with a raised brow once he's put the kettle on.

"What's up?"

"We're--"

That's not right. He vaguely remembers, for some reason, that Gerard had said there's supposed to be a good story from something like this.

"Are you--?"

That's not right either. His brow knits unhappily, attention on the eggs.

"We're-- starting something-- new, now. Aren't we?"

Well. The nervousness is hardly unfamiliar, but it's not been seen in quite this manner for a few years. It has him drifting closer to brush a hand briefly against Horatio's shoulder, soothing.

"We are, yes."

Standing close fixes so many things. It still amazes him, even after all these years.

"But-- whatever it is, we'll-- we'll do it together, won't we?"

Getting closer.

It's easy enough to nod, at that. It's easy enough to steal a quick kiss against his cheek.

"We will."
