"Just your time," he says in Spanish, maintaining eye-contact with Jon as though they're speaking the same language and a translator isn't parroting him in English, "I'd hate to waste any of it, we can leave potential pleasantries for after."

Plainly: If this is going to be a bust, Alejandro isn't interested in having coffee with the man first. Let's just get to work, pal. His American liaison introduces herself and the translator, and the three of them are ready to get right down to business. Alejandro especially, who's definitely noticed their host's odd disposition. Is it the Mexican thing, he wonders, or something else? He can never be entirely sure how much of his reputation (or how much of what reputation) may be rolling around in someone else's head.

"I'll be honest with you," he begins after they're seated, "I don't think importing prescription drugs from the US is viable long-term, and I don't think it's a good solution to anything. I'm not going to sit here and promise you billions over the years because we both know that isn't happening. But the situation I'm looking at right now is a dire emergency and there needs to be some kind of relief that may need to last for..." Alejandro continues, his key points extrapolated on by his American liaison in frank English. She mostly handles the negotiation after his initial outline-- though he continues to watch Jon and interject here and there, or confirm something with a nod of his head.

There's something odd about the American man, he decides.
