THE COFFEE SHOP AU MEME
It's a coffee shop. You're a hot barista, or just visiting because of the hot barista. It's a hot summer day, so why not go for a Grande Special Deluxe Western Style Low Sugar Peppermint Macchiato? Or just a simple pumpkin spice latte that is, for the sake of convenience, available all year round.?Either way, this is a setting-based meme, so take it from here however you please!

blake isn't a fan of the stuff, in any sense of the word, so being surrounded by it for a couple of hours after class isn't the ideal way she wanted to spend her evenings. but she wants to get weiss something nice for her upcoming birthday, which unfortunately met accepting the first job that would hire her.
she kind of wishes she had kept looking but. hey. she gets free tea out of it.
when one of her coworkers passes along a familiar order (it's the cream and sugar that does it), she smiles before offering to be the one to take it to the customer. luckily, today it's extremely dead. the downside is that it makes the hour go by more slowly, but the pros? she can do this. ]
Hey, stranger.

luckily, there's a nice little coffee shop nearby she's familiar with that she's pretty sure is still open. at this time, nobody's really around, which is actually preferable to Ruby. this lull in activity is a different kind of quiet from the emptiness of the dorm room; the lack of strangers is welcome when compared to the absence of her friends.
when Blake comes outside to deliver the drink, Ruby's doing routine maintenance on Crescent Rose, polishing its outer casing and making sure its gun component won't jam when fired. the familiar voice makes her jump—literally, she leaps maybe a foot or two—in surprise before she comes crashing back down in her seat, her eyes wide. how did she not notice her friend when she had ordered?! (then again, Blake is very good at being sneaky, and Ruby isn't always the most observant...)]
Blake? When did you start working here?!
no subject
[ she hasn't exactly been keeping this job a secret because for some reason no one has bothered asking her why she suddenly needed one? blake can count on her friends to be oblivious on the lighter things in her life, at least.
she sets the drink down on the table before looking back at the shop. it's just as dead as when she left it, so she settles down at the open seat at the table. a few minutes chatting shouldn't hurt. ]
Sorry if I scared you. You jumped.

[Ruby ponders for a second... she. guesses she never did ask. she thinks she may have even made up the thing about Blake needing to go to the library in the first place because in her mind, that is just a very Blake-like thing to do. she sits up when Blake takes the seat across from her, and takes a quick sip from the drink—Blake did come all the way over here just to give it to her, after all.]
What are you doing here? [a brief pause, then,] Y'know, other than making money. Which. Is probably why you're here, heh....

I just needed a little extra funds, is all. I let Yang con me into buying her too many sweets lately so I have to stock up again.
no subject
Tsk tsk, Blake! You know how much Yang loves her Super Duper Sour Blitz Balls... [... even from just saying the name, Ruby visibly cringes and sticks out her tongue.] Ugh, just thinking about them makes me go "blehhhh."
no subject
[ blake can handle like, half of one and even then she's awake for two days straight after. ]
Is your drink any good?
no subject
[already wanting to forget that grossness (she loves Yang, she really does, but sometimes even she wonders how the heck they're related), she gives a sagelike nod as she takes another sip.]
Sometimes I want to try something different, but it's so hard to when your favorite is always so good.
no subject
blake almost wants to comment that ruby's favorite is, in fact, terrible. but she manages to hold her tongue and not express her coffee related hate. she can't have other customers overhearing her, after all. ]
I have an idea. The next time you come here, pick something new and it'll be on the house, okay? Just make sure it's during my shift.
no subject
Seriously? You really mean it?
no subject
[ seriously though, make sure it's during her shift cause no one else would do it. ]
no subject
[without further warning, Ruby jumps out of her chair and leaps over to Blake's side, hugging the other girl tightly. the perks of friendship...!]
When do you work next?
no subject
Two days from now. If you behave I'll even add in a free pastry.
no subject
Even one of those huuuge sugardoodle cookies with the super chocolatey chips and caramel glaze?
no subject
[ blake does not specify what falls under the category of behaving. ]
no subject
[here she releases her hold on Blake to stand with her back straight, hands on her hips, and head high. basically she is imitating Weiss. the pose doesn't hold for very long, though, as she quickly slouches back down.]
... Whatever that means.
no subject
[ even when they're saving the day, they usually break a couple of rules and buildings while doing it. it's a tough job. ]

For the cookie. Are you doing anything later?
no subject
Other than finishing this coffee before it gets cold and also sleeping at some point? Not really.
[she totally has the coffee equivalent of a milk mustache right now btw]
no subject
It's pretty dead in there. [ she nods towards the coffee shop. ] I'll probably have to go back inside so they don't think i'm goofing off too much, but I can chat.
no subject
Ooh—can you show me how you make coffee? Like, a fancy drink! The kind that Weiss would probably order.
no subject
[ blake follows her, shaking her head slightly because god. weiss definitely is the type to have the most complicated order in the world. blake is so grateful she hasn't come here during one of her shifts. ]
