Loki had been stopping by, like clock work, every Saturday morning around 2pm for the past few years. He had a lovely card when he had heard the sweet florist had died. Shocked when her husband kept going, but pleased enough to be able to keep getting colorful bouquets to take to his mother each week when he visited for tea while his father and brother would be away.

This Saturday, he makes his way in. His long hair hanging loose today, a black suit as always, but today had a pop of color this time, a dark green shirt.

"Good afternoon, Don. How are you and the boys?" Loki asked as he made his way to the counter. He didn't always make conversation, but somedays, he did. After all, the Mrs. always made him stay and talk a few minutes while she got his order together.

[The Bear Tattoo Parlor has been open for almost fifty years, first established by Mikey’s old man, who did a good job trying to run it into the ground. He wracked up a supremely impressive debt before fucking off, leaving Mikey, and by extension Richie, to try to salvage the place. He likes to think they’ve done a good job, since the building is still standing despite the fact that for most of its life it was sandwiched between two competing biker bars whose members loved to throw each other through the big glass front window of the tattoo parlor before they finally had to have metal bars installed.

But maybe they’re doing too good of a job, because the biker bars have closed down now and of all things, a fucking flower shop opens up next door. It’s such a funny juxtaposition that Richie took a picture of the two completely different store fronts and sent it to the work group chat. He’s only really seen one guy coming in and out of it, a short but stocky guy built like a pit bull, which makes the whole thing even more hilarious.

Richie is convinced it’s some sort of money laundering front, but Mikey insists the guy must just be one of those eccentric tortured geniuses, because all his girlfriends love the bouquets this guy does. The flowers, they can agree, are definitely real, and when Richie goes out front for his smoke breaks, he’ll be hit with such a powerful fistful of floral pleasantness that it’s almost tangible, but their customers all love it. Honestly, they should be getting commission considering how many customers come in for a piercing or a tattoo and wind up popping in next door to buy a random bunch of flowers for whatever inane reason.

Or if not, commission, a discount. Richie tries not to whistle at the prices as he ambles into the flower shop, hands stuffed in his pockets. Normally, he’d just go to the corner store to grab one of their soggy but serviceable bouquets, but his daughter Eva’s is having a dance recital tonight and maybe it’s cheesy, but he thinks it’d be nice to give her a huge flower bouquet like he’s seen in movies. If there’s anyone to splurge for, it’s her.

He nods in greeting when he sees the pitbull guy near the back of the store, wondering if the guy is going to give him an earful for how loud they play their music or how much they argue next door considering he’s kind of their first ambassador here. Mikey had always been dressed for a hot date when he’d come in, the fucking asshole, but Richie’s wearing a shirt with the Bear Tattoo Parlor logo splashed as big as the whole shirt on the front. It almost feels like a target.

After a few minutes of staring at a bunch of flowers that for the most part, look the same to him, he finally gives up and turns back to the guy.]

[ She grows all the flowers including blooms that don't match up with their time of year. Reportedly this flower shop has been "handed down" for many generations, but the founder, should anyone find a portrait if they got curious, looks exactly like the individual working there today.

The shop is open no earlier than 1PM and though the hours on the door say 1-8, Frieren usually forgets to lock the door and goes to sleep late, so it is common knowledge in the city/town even if you do go after 8, you can still usually get in. If it's winter, you might have to wake the florist up from her impromptu nap at the work table or the sales counter. She just does not favor the cold. ]

She enters the flower shop late in the afternoon, when the sun is lazily making its way towards the horizon and the light has taken on a syrupy golden hue. She nods politely to the owner, then looks around, and a smile of delighted surprise lights up her whole face as she takes in the sheer variety of flowers surrounding her. For a moment she hesitates, as if unsure where to start, then picks a shelf seemingly at random and begins closely studying the plants it holds. This occupies her for quite some time, and in her quiet concentration she seems almost to fade into the background—at least until she exclaims, loud enough that heads turn towards her, “Oh, but that is a beauty!”

Seemingly unbothered by the sudden attention, she emerges from between the shelves, holding in both hands a potted plant, its blooms lush and verdant and entirely out of season. It’s a rare specimen, and she handles it with care, but when she sets it down on the counter and points, it’s not to the flowers but to one of the leaves, where, upon closer inspection, a small beetle can be found walking oblivious to the whole commotion.

“Look!” the blonde woman says, then looks up at Frieren, beaming. “Isn’t it gorgeous? I’ll buy it! And, ah, the plant too, please.” This she adds after a moment’s thought, as if it weren’t entirely obvious.

modern au flower shop!

[ this time of year the shop is quite busy, selling holiday busts of holly and fir garlands, and bungles of bright poinsettias, which are technically not flowers at all, but that's perfectly fine. they're beautiful, and very popular over the holidays for their bright red and green leaves - they sell many of them this time of year, and always have to keep many in stock.

tighnari is off today, but.. well, he feels bad leaving aether to take care of it all himself on a busy day, so around lunchtime he pops in with warm hot chocolate and coffee, as well as some freshly baked cookies.

smiling, he slides them onto the counter once the shop is empty, and he flips the sign to CLOSED for the time being, so aether can enjoy a nice lunch break together with him. tighnari's nose and ears are bright red from the cold, snow dusting his hair and ears and tail as he rubs his gloved hands together for warmth. the shop is nice and cozy however, so it won't take long for him to warm up.

sipping his warm coffee, he leans over the counter to press a kiss to aether's nose. ]
