How to Play
→ Comment with your character. You might also want to include if you're okay with actual 'spoilers' from your character's canon/4th wall breakage, should there be any actual psychics out there.
→ Others try and 'see their future.' Said attempt comes in any form: praise, encouragement, a read or barb, random guessing, a legitimate warning (stop walking where piano movers are working, thank me later) or even an attempt to woo with a future they see as shared.
→ Call out BS. Doubt. Do whatever.

I see you satisfying your burning curiosity. [Nyarlathotep is neutral-tending-toward-positive about the possibility.] But in my experience, the future is not fixed, so I never foresee anything but strong possibilities.

Strong possibilities are also worth considering. [ She tilts her head a little to one side, smiling. Neutral-tending-toward-positive. ] For all I know, they may soon become a strong reality.

[rephase]

It's more difficult, I find, to prognosticate the outcome of a goal that relies on inner understanding and also the world outside the self. Either one by itself, less complex. But, [He shrugs.] It's good to have a passion to make your wishes real.

Perhaps I can help? Men call me Nyarlathotep.

First, tell me: what do you call yourself? As I know them, men can be mistaken.

That is kind of you. [Some might miss the distinction, but Dess picked up on it immediately.] I call myself, [And it is hard for a human throat but it does sound closest to Neeyar-lat, without the -hotep part.] Nyarlat is an Anglicisation of my name, and -ḥtp a suffix that means 'is satisfied'. To be called Nyarlathotep is acceptable, thank you.

A beloved child has many names. What is your favorite that I might call you?

[outwears]

If it's acceptable to you, I'll accept it, too. [ She could've nailed Neeyar-lat, of course, but showing off for her own satisfaction is so last testament. ]

Collectively, in my original form, I'm known as God, though it's only as true to divinity as man ever comes in life. [ She gestures to herself, this petite, frail-looking shape she has taken. ] Like this, however, I call myself Dess. I find that acceptable.

[rephase]

I find that level of consideration rare. And I prize it as a result.

[He soon has his answer for why Dess's unexpectedly thoughtful for a human, though, and looks both embarrassed, but then intrigued, at the fact that he did not properly "detect it", or even guess at her nature.]

I believed before this moment that I should have been able to feel that claim long before it was made. Your form is very alike to a mortal... Spectacular. But then, why should you not be able to remake yourself as you like?

[outwears]

It was necessary. I'm not here to blind and deafen and kill my mortal children.

[ She can manipulate her own matter endlessly, luckily, seeing as mortals have no capacity to look upon her true form. And so, she did it before, manipulate her own being, the result sits on Heaven's throne now. She trusts Jesus with that power, because she trusts herself equally.

Looking at Nyarlathotep for a moment, she smiles. ]

You ascribe me a lot of power and a lot of will, as one should. How much do you ascribe yourself?

It does seem a little unfair, doesn't it. I don't see the point in a game you cannot help but win.

[He decides he quite likes that smile of hers, but that's neither here nor there.] I would not stand before a great God, or, in fact, The great God, and insult Her.

As for myself, I am the Messenger of the dreaming First Cause, the Mediator of the Other Gods and the Protector of the Small Gods. I do not collect any dues, and sadly there is no union... [That's a joke, at least, but he seems to be serious about his roles.] Every time I turn around there seem to be more, but that, too, is part of the game for me.

Well yeah, I mean, I've already been hurt trying to do hero work and I'm still just a student. Getting hurt is kind of inevitable in this job... but I do it because I wanna help people! Why else?

Why intentionally throw yourself into danger? All for people who you don't even know?

Sticking your neck out for others... everything I've seen tells me that's foolish. Subtly adjusting the situation so someone can escape on their own is one thing, I've done that before, but if you're putting yourself between an attacker and someone else, you're a fool.

Dying hurts, dying is scary, and sure some people believe in an afterlife, but that's not guaranteed.

Even if it's foolish, it's the right thing to do.
