[When Loki Odinson, blood of Laufey, had heard the vague rumor that another son of Odin...and on that note, another? Just how many were there, anyway? Well, when another son of Odin had landed himself in the hospital, his curiosity had gotten the better of him.

And so it was that he ended up walking into the room (after having spun stories about being traveling partners on some trip or another, it doesn't matter) with a bouquet of get well flowers which he plopped into the nearest vase, before plopping himself into the nearest chair like he owned it, staring at Kain with undisguised curiosity.]

Hello. I hope I'm not bothering you.

[Kain took a horrible beating, the last battle he'd been in. There's not much on him that wasn't broken, bruised or bloodied out there. He's only half-asleep when he hears someone approaching. At least it'll be a distraction... Because even this bad off it's very hard for Kain to be forced to lie still.]

...Hello? [Kain glances over at him, wondering if he's hit his head hard enough that he's forgetting things. Yet there's something about him, that reminds him of someone...] Forgive me... have we met?

I believe not, but stranger coincidences have happened. [And he sounds utterly cheerful at announcing that he's pretty much a stranger, yo.] I'm not well acquainted with your customs, but I brought you these flowers of well wishing. [Indicates the sunflowers.] I'd have brought a cupcake as well, but those mages outside caught me and confiscated it.

They are rather frightening, aren't they? In certain respects I'd rather face whatever it was that put you in such a state.

[Kain gives him a curious look, still trying to place him, but... nothing is really coming up. He sighs heavily. Even in this shape he's done a few things that ended up with some long nagging sessions from those mages.]

...So would I.

[More uncertain staring.]

Well... you've my thanks. I think. It's not typically a custom to bring well-wishes to strangers. Is there some reason for that?

Oh, I was rather curious, and I imagine that you must be bored. [And so far he seemed to fit the type: blonde, a brave warrior...] I'm Loki. It's a pleasure meeting you! I've heard the most intriguing rumors about you.

[Well, he has the boredom very right. Staying idle is always difficult for Kain, every time he ends up this badly hurt.]

I'm Kain Highwind... but you seem to know that. What rumors have you heard of me?

[He feels anxious about that- he's done some terrible things, along with the good.]

Ones entailing... [And here lies a pause, a hesitation. This is so strange to ask.] Is it true that you can jump?

[Kain is about to nod, but stops himself upon remembering just how much it hurts to even do something as simple as that.]

It is. As a dragoon, jumping is my specialized battle technique. I can ascend to great heights, far above my enemies...

[And Loki perks up at the news.] Really! I had honestly thought it was exaggeration. You know the sort: someone who is remarkably strong becomes a titan strong enough to break the world in the retelling.

[And a thought occurred to him.] I hope a...ah, bad landing wasn't what happened...

I would demonstrate it for you if I only could...

[But there's no way he's even so much as getting out of this bed any time soon.]

...it wasn't just a bad landing alone, although that partially accounted for it. I may have somewhat underestimated my enemy.

[Massive understatement, clearly.]

[Still better than what he imagined, if but briefly.] I've done that before. Once, when training, I charged at a giant like an idiot and my brother had to rescue me. I wasn't even supposed to be there. Hardly the no doubt dire beast which felled you, of course, but still a momentary lapse of reason. [And he still cringes thinking about it. So horrible on so many levels.]

That's still a worthy, formidable opponent... and hearing that makes me feel somewhat less foolish for ending up in this state.

[He glances to his legs, both of which are broken in a few places. He has countless injuries elsewhere, but those are what troubles him most.]

...I only hope I can recover my jumping...

Of course you will. [And he's a bit surprised with how quickly he said that.] Surely F- your father wouldn't leave you like this.

[Yes, that has Kain's full attention. He turns his head sharply to look at him, wincing at the too fast motion. Ow. But if he knows him, surely he'd know more of his father, who was a far better man than he'll ever be.]

You know of my father? How?

[And he looks away, realizing his mistake too late.] Everyone knows of Odin. [...wow, that wasn't his smoothest line.]

I should have figured. He's powerful among the Eidolons, and was one of Baron's greatest kings. I owe him much.

You're not Baronian... what nation do you come from? [Kain has been trying to place that, but he can't entirely figure it out. Not that it's surprising a foreigner knows of one of Baron's strongest rulers. Or perhaps he knows him better for the Eidolon role.]

Asgard, though you may not have heard of it. It is far away, a city of heroes, and its people have the regrettable tendency to not be terribly interested in the doings of other lands. My brother and I are the only real exceptions I can think of.

Unsurprising, that Odin would venture to such a distant, foreign land. [Eidolons are very mysterious like that, after all, with capabilities beyond normal humans... However, that's not the only thing which interests Kain about this.] Did you- were you about to refer to him as your father?

I...yes. [And he was hoping that went unnoticed, and yet oddly relieved at the same time.] Adopted. Loki Odinson, blood of Laufey.

[It makes sense now, and it's strange to think of having relations of a sort in such far off worlds.]

Then we've that in common as well. When my blood father died, Odin raised me as his own.

I'm sorry to hear that. Mine fell in battle. I don't remember him well, and what little I do remember makes me rather glad that I don't remember him well.

That's unfortunate... I have great respect for mine. My birth father is the reason I chose the path of a dragoon, to honor his memory.

...I only hope that I can one day prove myself worthy for both of them.

Oh, I'm sure you will. Father- well, the father we have in common does have a fondness for warriors. [A bit wistful at the last.] I'm surprised he left you alone for this long.

I assumed that was because I disappointed him. Cecil was always the favorite... [Kain makes a face, not caring to delve too far into the jealousy issue.] Although he has aided us in battle when summoned.
