It cuts deeper that he dares to speak to her directly, for no apparent reason. This is a drop in the ocean of her utter contempt for him.

A cackling laugh twists her entire body and trembles through her joints. It's not the first time he's lacked the necessary viciousness to hurt her. There's a suggestion of musicality in her tone, "Was that pathetic Potter's best? If you were not so unworthy of my pity, you might've earned it then."
