[ He sits himself down on the couch, careful not to upset his sore side. ]

I'm still not leaving. Either you deal with that, or answer the question. [she remains standing, hands on her hips.] I can make myself comfortable. Jace did it; I can do it.

[ He's seriously considering how much trouble he'd get in for turning you into an end table right now. ]

Have you talked to Alec yet? Has he explained anything to you?

Evidently not, then. [ Since he's sure that she wouldn't be acting quite so hostile if she knew the truth.

He trains his gaze on her, eyes narrowed. ] Since you're being so persistent, if you must know, your brother went behind my back and discussed my immortality with my ex-girlfriend. It seems she told him of a way to make me mortal. He was considering doing her bidding in exchange for the information.

[she wouldn't be, it's true. She listens, her hostility slowly fading.]

He- This is Alec we're talking about here. He wouldn't do that. No way.

No? He admitted it, Isabelle. He tripped over himself trying to explain and come up with excuses.

[ Right now, he's in the stage where he's angry and bitter. Give it a few days, and he'll be upset and heartbroken instead. ]

Trust me, I checked my facts before I broke up with him. I wasn't going to rely on Camille's word.

[she refuses to believe that her brother would try to steal Magnus' immortality. And she refuses to believe that he would go behind everyone's backs to see Camille. That means that he's been lying to them all this time.]

Y- If he could have made himself immortal, I'm sure he would have.

[ His jaw tightens at that. ]

That isn't a better option. Though I suppose that might've involved a little bit less lying.

[ The last thing he wants for anyone, let alone Alec, is for them to have to live forever. It's a curse, really, not a gift. ]

[she rolls her eyes, some of that hostility snapping back.]

So what? You were just content in knowing that he'd die - probably in the next decade - and then you'd mourn for a little bit, and just move on? And you thought he'd just be okay with that?

[ He nearly shoots to his feet at that, but he manages to rope his anger in. The venom is still clear in his voice, though. ]

You really think that? I've never been okay with him dying. And I can promise you, I'd never move on from that. There are some things you just can't get over, no matter how much time you're given.

That isn't even the point. The point is, he considered shortening my life without my consent. That isn't for him to decide.

He was- He's just looking at options. He wouldn't have done it-

[she hopes. And her doubt is written clear across her face.]

No way would he have actually done anything without actually talking to you about it.

[ He shifts, leaning back on the couch. ]

It's the principal of the matter. I thought I could trust him; turns out, I can't.

Magnus. You can trust him. He's eighteen. You're his first boyfriend. He's going to make stupid decisions.

Stupid decision? He considered shortening my life. That's a fatal decision, not a stupid one. [ He'll change his mind later, no doubt. ] Eighteen is plenty old enough to know between right and wrong.

I warned him about Camille. I told him not to believe a word she says, as she's manipulative and conniving, and definitely not to be trusted. And what does he do? He plays right into her hands. He believed her over me.

[she winces a little, glancing aside. Her comments now are biting and sardonic, and she's possibly angrier than she's ever been before.] Fine. You're the victim here. Whatever.

Who says he believed her? Maybe he was trying to figure out everything he could? Did you ever think of that? Or did you just dump him on the spot?

[ Nope, he's officially done with her, and it shows clear as day on his face. He gets to his feet again, glaring down at her. ]

I've told you what you wanted to know. If you want to hear more, talk to your brother. Now get the hell out of my apartment, and don't come back.

[he's one of the few guys who's taller than her, and he's really damn good at making her feel about an inch tall, if she's anything. But she's still willing to glower up at him - she won't relent.]

He's better off without you.

[and that said, she spins on her heel, starting to storm out. Doing just like he told her, basically.]

[ He lets out a scathing laugh, watching her leave. ]

I should've never let you all into my party that night.

[ Shadowhunters were bad news. He never learned from his mistakes, either. ]

[she shoots from the doorway, glaring still.] Too bad warlocks can't go back in time, huh? Then you'd really be rid of us - we'd probably all be dead by now. Not just Max, but the rest of us too.

[ Never in his 800 years of living has anybody ever gotten under his skin the way Isabelle Lightwood does.

He flings out a hand, slamming the door shut before she can get through it. Now, he's not done talking to her. ]

Don't think for a second I ever wanted any of you dead. I love your brother. I know you don't think that's the case right now, but I do.

[ And if he could go back in time, he wouldn't do anything different. He still would've helped them out that night, he still would've pursued Alec, and he still would've saved their lives as many times as he has. No matter what he says, he wouldn't want to change a thing. ]

I'd do anything for him. I still would.

[ Because he's stupidly, helplessly devoted. ]

[she gasps as the door slams in her face, her face flushing with angry heat; she whirls on him, storming a few steps back into the apartment.]

Like hell. If you loved him, you wouldn't be doing this. You'd talk to him, not ignore him and avoid him, like you're secretly fifteen and thought the silent treatment was a good idea.

And this is coming from the queen of the silent treatment, is it?

[ He crosses his arms over his chest, scowling at her. ]

Have you tried, for just a second, putting yourself in my position? Imagine Simon going behind your back to talk to one of your exes about making you immortal. Would you want that? I understand you're faithful to your brother, but that doesn't mean you have to justify the wrong things he's done.

Shut up. Don't make this about me, Magnus.

It wouldn't happen. He knows I'm Nephilim; it wouldn't work. You can't be both. And I- [a sharp inhale.] Don't bring Simon into this. It's not about him, and it's not about me. He's not you, and I'm not Alec.
