Hank has a lot more sense than to share his immediate thoughts. Of course Simon is feeling this way, and like most people in society, he’s got to learn how to deal with not getting what he wants (what he’s absolutely entitled to) right away. He has to wait, he has to learn patience, and he has to learn disappointment. Again, these thoughts weren’t anything that Hank would say, nor does he beat himself up about having the thoughts, he also knew that he didn’t know what Simon had already been through, nor did he know what he was going through now because Hank was human. Not to mention the privileges he had as a white cis-male.

So, Hank does his best to be there for Simon. “In this moment, you feel helpless, but it’s just right now. A small moment against the many moments when you have been significantly helpful to yourself and to your people.”

The quiet moment at least helps Simon in getting his thoughts into better order. The problem is that the time to think also makes him terribly aware that he's basically alone against this man that is much larger than he is. His own height is nothing to sneeze at, but Hank is built like a tank. He could probably pick Simon up and smack him against a wall if he got irritated enough.

Let's...not examine that thought too closely.

"I feel like there's so much more that I could be doing, that's all," he concedes. "I don't like holding still when I know there's more to be done. Call it residual programming, I guess."

“Yeah, okay, residual programming.” He thought it sounded like stir-crazy, anxiety, tension, etc. Hank was not the best one to understand, but he didn’t have to, so long as he was effective in giving Simon a reason to stay clear of danger. “Have you ever felt this way before?”

Crossing his arms over himself in a defensive sort of posture, Simon looks down at his feet with a soft frown and furrowed brow.

"I was designed to take care of people. To be on top of all these little details to keep a home in order. I don't really have the latter anymore, so..." So all of his restless energy wanted to go toward the former and now, he was in a holding pattern. He was avoiding actually answering the question, though.

Hank could empathize with the significant irruption in one’s life. Not that he would be willing to go into his own details, but he could at least appreciate the experience. “Everything you do still matters, you still matter, even if our roles change, in our lives, we still are important.”

Simon watched the man for a moment, then braced for the almost certainly inevitable backlash when he quietly replied, "Does that idea extend to you, yourself Lieutenant? Or is this a 'do as I say, not as I do scenario?"

Yeah, that quiets Hank down and clenches his jaw up real nice and tight. He gives Simon a long look before he begrudgingly responds. “Yes.”

That look gets one in return, very even and almost sleepy-looking. He wants to point out the hypocrisy, but (perhaps un)wisely goes with the second part of his thought.

"If you find yourself needing assistance, your presence here has been appreciated. We'll do whatever we can to return the kindness."

He’s being dismissed, and Hank can only nod in recognition of it. He scrutinizes Simon. “I’ll see you again, is what I heard.”

"Smart man." There is, perhaps, a hint of smugness to the soft quirk of his lips. Hank's life is doomed to being invaded by concerned androids.
