Ah, rain—the precipitation that the whole world has a love/hate affair with. It waters the garden for free and ruins baseball games. It cools you off in the summer and it causes more ice and sleet to appear in the winter. Sometimes it is lovely and falls at a decent pace for a few hours, other times, it blasts the whole eastern seaboard away.

Poems and songs have been written about it, people have danced in it, others have cursed its entire existence, and still more refuse to go out and drive in it.

Now it’s time to roll some dice and see what the weather will have in store for you today.

1. DRIZZLE ☂ It’s not too heavy or too light of a downpour, just enough to wash away stuff in the air, water the ground, and clean up the streets.

2. MONSOON ☂ It’s horrible and awful! Rain is coming down in buckets, no one can get anywhere, the wind is whipping everything about, and now the cable is out.

3. SHOWER ☂ Reminds you of early spring, doesn’t it? A nice shower to make everything all green and smell fresh again. Lovely.

4. FLOOD ☂ While rain is good, it can sometimes be bad. Grab a boat!

5. CATS & DOGS ☂ You’re lucky with this one. It’s not the worst storm in the world, but it’s still pretty heavy. Be careful when driving!

5. PUDDLES ☂ After it rains, what is the number one thing you have to do? Go put on some rubber boots and splash around of course!

6. SUDDEN STORM ☂ It might have been predicted, but sometimes storms just sweep in and do their thing with little to no warning. Hope you’re not outside.

7. THUNDER & LIGHTNING ☂ Loud, surprising, scary, ominous, comforting, fantastic to watch or listen to… some like thunder and lightning, others not so much. Of course, if this happens before a big confrontation, the universe is telling you something.

8. CAN’T GET WORSE ☂ You did not say that. You did not just say that. How many times does this need to be seen in movies and books before anyone learns?

9. STUCK ☂ No, no, no, no. This cannot be happening. What happened to the ten percent chance of rain? You forgot your umbrella and now you’re stuck in it!

10. RUINED PLANS ☂ You had all these wonderful plans to go outside, have some fun in the sunshine, do some errands, maybe a date… and the weather goes against them.

11. DANCING ☂ Sometimes rain is a cause for celebration, or you just feel like doing something spontaneous. Grab someone to join you and get wet!

12. RAIN BATTLE ☂ The most intense, important battles happen in the rain. Verbal spars, punching someone in the guts; it’s all dramatic and climatic. And no one slips.

13. DATE ☂ Aww, don’t let the weather ruin your date! It can be really romantic, being out in the rain, and it’s always fun to go with the flow.

14. A DAY INSIDE ☂ Sometimes, it’s just better to stay inside and enjoy something simple and easy like board games or catching up on TV shows, or maybe the bills.

When setting out from Stilben, they sent word ahead to the tribe in the mountains that they would be coming. But they did not wait for a reply, instead setting out as soon as they could afterward.

The storm hits suddenly. Perhaps it would have been all right if not for traveling through high mountain passes: the same paths carved by water over the years that made for easier climbing also flood violently with heavy rain.

Their guide, such that they were, started running back down the path they'd come up as soon as the sky opened, leaving the monk and his charge alone.

Thinking only to find higher ground, Verity is forced to scramble over slick rock in an unfamiliar place, and with only one arm: the other clutches precious cargo and he will not let go of that. But he is in a place unknown to him, and even if he has navigated similar terrain before, he does not know the idiosyncrasies of these mountains. Unstable rock gives way beneath his foot and and Verity grabs wildly for a branch jutting out of the mountainside. The tree itself is twisted and gnarled by decades of wind, but it doesn't break beneath the tiefling's soaked weight and he tries to get his arm around it while cradling his bundle to his chest. He doesn't dare try to throw a leg up, too concerned that it would be too much strain on the tree after landing on it like he did.

With the branch beneath one arm and the other wrapped around it from beneath to avoid compromising his hold, Verity bows his head into the bundle and murmurs what comfort he can. Small hands grip soaked robes and all he can do is hang there. He can feel water rushing by the tip of his tail, but he does not draw it up: it will let him know if it gets higher. He rushes through possibilities, ways to get out of their predicament. He can't see well through the driving rain, and while he might consider climbing the cliff wall they're hanging from, he doesn't know if he can do it in the rain with one hand. And while he trusts his balance and dexterity, he isn't sure that he can make a sling for the child while holding on to a branch. ​

He prays that their message reached the Air Ashari. Perhaps if they are expected, they will also be missed.

Verity allows himself to close his eyes and he keeps his head down, trying to protect the child hugged between him and the twisted tree. But he can feel the water rising and something sharp hits his tail. He can hear the rumbling of rocks - gods only know how big - forced along by the rushing water. They can't stay here. He looks toward the cliff face: if he can get there, if he can wedge himself against the wall, maybe--

He inches along the tree, cognizant of the slick wood and every shift beneath his weight. He tells the child to hold onto him and he prays that Ilmater will help him to last longer than this storm.

Cold dead blood, clotted and spoiling, was a wretched thing to feast on. The dead killed the animals, the humans, with no distinction and even less finesse. Claudia had been forced to be...selective. Killing mortals was now thinning a precious resource. She didn't often get to sip the sweetness of living blood anymore.

She rose from her daytime sleep to find the abandoned house above was now occupied and by the living. The heavy rain fell, punctuated by thunder: a violent summer thunderstorm, that only the Southern climes could produce. Nothing would be stirring tonight, living or dead.

Noiseless as a ghost, flitting through the shadows, Claudia moved through the dusty house. Antebellum and once a museum to the past, a mausoleum to all that had once been. Dressed in a long woolen skirt, with a blouse with lace at the cuffs, Claudia is a petite blonde ghost of the past, with ribbons in her mass of blonde curls. Pale as marble, dead and cold, she peers into the front room, lit by a flashlight. Her ddark blue eyes are bright, and she looks to see what bounty has been stranded upon her doorstep on this rainy night.
