The Hanahaki Disease Meme

The Hanahaki Disease is an illness born from one-sided love, where the patient throws up and coughs up flower petals when they suffer from one-sided love. The infection can be removed through surgery, but the feelings disappear along with the petals...

1- Discovery:
There's the one person who makes your heart leap into your throat- but wait, that's not your heart. Where are all these flowers coming from? And why do they remind you of your beloved?

2- Concern:
Someone you know has been acting strange lately... Coughing a lot, hiding their hands all the time... It's enough to make anybody worry.

3- Sicker and Sicker:
Coughing up flower petals all the time isn't easy to hide. But it's getting harder to even breathe, now. You're going to have to make a decision, and soon...

4- Confession:
Everyone knows that there's two ways to get rid of Hanahaki: Surgery (the risk dependent on the time period), or confessing your feelings. Time to toe up and face your beloved and just tell them that you love them so much you're dying from it.

5- Post-Op:
The other option... You just couldn't tell them, but you weren't ready to die. Still, without those feelings the world seems a little less colorful. Can you still be friends with them now that you have to start all over? Do you want to?

6- Make your own!
There's flower petals coming out of somebody's mouth in some way for some reason- make this prompt your own.

Just as a note, due to the nature of the meme vivid descriptions of coughing/choking/gagging are probably going to happen. If you want it toned down, make sure to put that in your top-level.

( Jerry's been coughing a lot lately. Like, more than usual, a lot. More than I smoke way too much a lot. More than recreational marijuana.

He doesn't say anything for a while, despite his slowly growing concern. Waiting for it to pass, maybe, or waiting for Jerry to talk about it — which he realized after a few days was stupid, Jerry doesn't talk about stuff without being prompted.

Finally, after a particularly hearty coughing fit, Jack's dam finally bursts. )

Dude, are you okay? Are you dying?

( That last part meant as a joke, of course, so absurd he doesn't even consider it really on the table. )

John Constantine might be a lot of things, most of them negative if you asked anyone, but an idiot was not one of them. At least not most of the time. Manipulative, conniving, an absolute bastard, yes. But not stupid.

So of course he'd noticed that the Doctor had been trying to keep something from him and of course he'd done everything he could to figure it out. It hadn't been that difficult either; he'd noticed the cough from someone who never seemed to stay injured for very long, let alone get sick, almost immediately. It had started small enough, once or twice every so often, but now it was almost daily that the Doctor was having to disappear or keep to himself, claiming he was 'busy'. The fact he had to hide it at all was another sign something was wrong, and he'd noticed, once or twice, the odd scent of flowers wafting from the Doctor immediately afterwards.

He'd tried spells to figure it out, of course, but the answer was frustratingly out of reach. So it looked like he'd have to get... direct.

Which was why Constantine let himself into the TARDIS (he never knew if his magic worked because she let it and wanted him to get inside despite the Doctor trying to keep him out, or if the spell worked just as well on alien sentient ships) and followed the sound of that deep, wracking cough to the Doctor.

"Right, stop all these bloody theatrics, Doc. I know what's going on, so stop trying to pretend."
