THE TAROT MEME

This meme is pretty basic. You post in, put any specifics you'd like (or not like) in your header and entry, ???, and RP. For the prompts, however, you've got two methods for ideas.

( it's somewhere outside of cosmo canyon that he gets the call.

crackly and screeching, the static is so loud that it feels almost like he can't hear reno's voice at all. the line cuts in and out, and normally he might laugh, tease him or pretend to drop out more words than the phone itself does, make up some asinine, silly story and purposefully misinterpret just to have a laugh. they both did things like that, once, in days that were more carefree than they are now, when they were both just stupid kids trying to make something of their stupid lives in a world that felt like it had no limits, a world where heroes could come to life and the most they had to worry about was the inevitable paperwork of disapproval that could happen if they ever got caught. not that he expected tseng was ever so stupid not to know what they were up to: but those details are from a life that he doesn't live anymore, a life that was stripped from him just as easily as his sense of time was, pulled out of his head and out of his hands no matter how hard he tried to hold on.

he doesn't know the date, doesn't even really know if it's afternoon or evening, at this point, except that the sun is starting to set, the golden hues and the reddish, rogue-like terrain of the cliffs around him making him feel almost trapped, boxed in by the dying light. the screen on the burner phone is almost cracked: the numbers wobble and glitch into pinks and blues and greys, and he holds it up to his ear with a gloved hand that's dying for a good shower. he's covered in dust--cloud isn't quite as bad, given that he's taken to wiping him off from time to time, but they're still filthier than he would like--and he can feel the sand in his boots as he shifts his weight, impatient. an inn just outside of the canyon, reno says. completely safe, he assures. the static blurs out everything in between. what can he really do, though? he's running out of money, running out of time, running out of friends fast.

the inn is relatively empty. they haven't gotten any sort of message about two fugitives from SOLDIER. he leaves cloud outside while he barters, just in his line of sight, to keep from getting too many questions. it's only once they're making it to their room that he gets the hair-raising feeling of being watched: down the rickety porch of the lower-level rooms that he sees reno waiting, in the shadow from the awning, a pair of eyes that meet his own, a pair of eyes that look just as tired. )

You know Tseng'll kill you if he finds out you're helping us hide out.

( he wants his voice to be that cheerful, warm cadence of carefree candor that it used to have--and even hours ago, he'd still had it. now, he's just tired; he still smiles, but it's hard to balance cloud's comatose body on one side of his body while he wrestles the inn key into the door lock with his other hand. the knob wriggles with the movement, and after a moment of frustration, he laughs, outright, takes a step back and nods to reno. )

Think you could give me a hand? Promise I'll make it worth your while.

( like he used to. like they used to, before all this. before he spent years in a tank of poison, and before it was reno's job to hunt him down: before he had to choose between saving cloud's life and saving the one relationship he thought could actually go somewhere. maybe it had been about the sex at first--or maybe not. but now, desperate, all he wants to do is get them all inside, behind closed doors, and spend the minimal amount of time they have together drowning in something more than the well of determination he can feel slowly running itself dry. )

_{[ you stay in one place for long enough and it's bound to happen eventually. you're going about your day like you have been for the past two months, and that's when you see it. or more accurately them. nobody could've predicted it, really. not even morga and the words she always lived by; be prepared for everything.

they hadn't noticed her in the markets, but she'd noticed them. a group of tall, burly looking people wearing brilliant cloaks adorned with distinctive patterns that she'd only known to exist in one part of the world far from vesuvia. she'd done more than notice them, even - one had a nasty looking scar on their forearm, and she'd known what caused it in an instant. she recognized them, though the last time morga had seen them with her own eyes they were younger. old enough to fight, but young. if she had to wager she'd say they weren't much older than lucio was when he'd left—when she drove him out from the south.

saved his life in the end.

upon her return to the palace, morga had kept to herself more than the norm. the faces of those she'd seen in town kept creeping into the forefront of her mind. faces belonging to people she had no business thinking of, especially now of all times. it wasn't the first time her past had reared its vicious head, but it was the first time she felt its eyes boring into her heart. her soul. promises made to lucio went — for the first time in her memory — unfulfilled. they'd been spending more time together, yes. mending the bond that had been torn asunder and split into pieces over the months after everything with the devil. travelling. patching one another up after a particularly nasty scrap with a monster from a job lucio had taken. "normal" things like that until the roads brought them back to vesuvia to rest and plan their next move. more often than not she'd always seek him out to just... talk. reconnect. she'd promised to meet him in the gardens this night, but...

she never showed up.

instead morga remained in the bedroom given to her by nadia, not far from lucio's old wing. sure, the countess knew morga's own preferences for something less soft but the offer had always been left open should she want it. tonight, well... she wasn't a coward, but she didn't want to risk running into them head-on. no doubt they'd recognize her too, and if that were the case... it's probably best for everyone that it not happen, you know? the only downside to the palace itself is it was built too well. the hinges of the doors too well-oiled, the carpets too soft and perfect to muffle most sounds, and with her attention out towards the forest from her spot on the balcony... she doesn't notice a familiar white hound slipping into the room until she feels a cold, wet nose pushing at her hand. ]}

—Melchior? You're supposed to be with Montag.
