"Dork," she snorted, finally giving up and leaning her head against him as well. "Serve you right if I phase through you next time."
paintednoble: (Huh?)

[personal profile] paintednoble 2013-02-24 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Serve you right if I leave you cold and coffee-less in the danger room next time" he countered and ducked the elevator frame as it dropped them off.

"...well, I'd only stay cold if I was an idiot," she noted. "I could order up a tropical sim. Maybe a beach..." The coffee would be fake though, alas. Only so much solid light projections could do.
paintednoble: (Huh?)

[personal profile] paintednoble 2013-02-24 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
He looked to her in surprise. "You can do that? The simulations do not have to be dangerous?" he asked

"...yeah? It's why ended up with a movie sim and a pirate sim? It can be used for play. Why, do you want a beach?" She just hadn't programmed one yet?
paintednoble: (Huh?)

[personal profile] paintednoble 2013-02-24 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
"No, though I would like to see if I could show you my world...Minus the deadly atmosphere of course."

"I might make a beach anyway," because now it sounded interesting! "And sure, I can show you how to play with the simple settings? I've locked down most the 'causes harm' programming aspects though, even the training sims are gentler than they used to be.""
paintednoble: (A smile for her)

They reached the kitchen and Nickov set her on her feet. "I would like that" he said with a nod

She leaned on him long enough to make sure she had her balance, then migrated naturally to the coffee pot. "Well, I'll do that then. If you're awake awake now we can give you an intro tonight? Or I can let you sleep tonight and we'll do it tomorrow!"
paintednoble: (A smile for her)

[personal profile] paintednoble 2013-02-24 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Tonight then" he said, making himself some tea.

[personal profile] pryde_and_grit 2013-02-24 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
She laughed at that as the coffee started brewing; "And we got all the way up here...damn, should have just stayed downstairs. We're going to have to migrate back down to the control room..." Oh well, at least they'd both have a drink?
paintednoble: (Uncertain)

[personal profile] paintednoble 2013-02-24 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Nickov perked up a bit after drinking some of his tea, the irritation of Kit's recklessness fading.

It wasn't his place to judge what others did on this world, and the less he involved himself, the better. He'd been involved too much back home. It was time to step away from it all. If the humans and mutants wanted to get themselves killed over a silly war of power, let them.
pryde_and_grit: (Pryde)

[personal profile] pryde_and_grit 2013-02-24 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
The sad thing was that it wasn't a silly game of power so much as a tide of fear and destruction. Most of the people who fought were just trying to survive, or to allow their children to survive. For humans, that was because mutants were terrifying, strange things. For mutants that was because they were targets.

It was just too damn complicated to be 'silly'.

Still, Kit would agree he had the right to stay back and away, even if he had been yelling at her earlier about taking him as backup. She drained a mug of coffee, cradled the next cup in her hands like a teddy bear, and nodded back the way they'd come. "Well, let me introduce you to the hologram programming, then I"ll leave you to play with it as long as you like alright?" She'd...do rounds, take a shower, etc.
paintednoble: (Huh?)

[personal profile] paintednoble 2013-02-24 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It was and always would be about power. The power of fear. The power of destruction. Power didn't necessarily mean a bigger weapon or rising to be a leader.

And in the end, Nickov thought it so depressingly silly that so much death came from two sides unable to understand one another.

The only difference between the war of humans versus mutants, and the war of nobles versus tribes was that many Valcovlians-on both sides-had no qualms about killing children. In fact, they encouraged it. You kill the offspring, and the enemy won't survive.

Nickov drained his cup and set it in the sink before following her, interest in the hologram technology diverting his thoughts away from the cruelty of both worlds.

[personal profile] pryde_and_grit 2013-02-24 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, well, there were reasons Kit didn't talk politics and motivations. She knew how much of it was from fear, and how many humans and mutants alike had been convinced that it was 'one or the other'. Nature forced dominant species into extinction events yadda yadda yadda. There but for the grace of genetics go them all after the cromagnon man.

Still, yes, there were better things to think on. Back down the elevator and down he hall to the glass walled control booth that looked over the Danger Room. "Here, there's two types of control. You can punch everything in with numbers if you're a math brain like me, or you can reach through the light board here and trace out the lines of your hologram..."

From getting basic lines to how to change textures and colors, it wasn't simple exactly but it was intuitive and voice commands allowed for the 'Shit, undo the last change!' command.
paintednoble: (Huh?)

[personal profile] paintednoble 2013-02-24 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Nickov learned very quickly how it worked and when Kit handed the reins over, he went ahead and conjured a familiar scene for him.

The Danger Room now showed an exact replica of Nickov's home world.

As far as the eye could see was a sea of sand as fine as sugar and red as blood. Everything was bathed in an almost unending dawn or dusk light, despite the settings having been set for midday. He'd set it so that they were in an oasis of sorts, and the trees that clung to life here were several stories tall and had huge trunks. But there was no greenery here. All the flora and fauna and the like were a mix of purples, and dark reds, with an occasional splash of bright yellow.

[personal profile] pryde_and_grit 2013-02-24 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
The reins, or boards as they were, when passed freed Kit up to do her own rounds. Even an excellent programmer took a little while to get things right and so she checked the halls. She checked her charges. She checked the security records for the time she was away.

When she came back, well, he was done with his scene and she leaned in the control room doorway, looking. "Hell, no wonder you're cold all the time here."
paintednoble: (Surprise)

[personal profile] paintednoble 2013-02-25 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Nickov chuckled. "I told you I am from a much hotter world." he said and tried programming some of the native animals.

He ended up with a lion that had the coat designs of a giraffe.

"Well...that was...not what I wanted...Oh um....Shit, undo last command" he said copying Kit's method. The weird hybrid disappeared.

"You did, she agreed, slipping forward to lean on the window near his console. ""A Grion...nope...Liraffe?" she laughed.

"Details can be a bitch, relax. It was cute, whatever it was."
paintednoble: (Huh?)

[personal profile] paintednoble 2013-02-25 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Nickov stepped away regardless so that he could look at his creation.

It wasn't perfect, but it was close.

He started to leave the box when he remembered he needed an access code to get in. "Care to join me?" he asked

[personal profile] pryde_and_grit 2013-02-25 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course," she laughed and held her hand out. "Let's g see your world shall we? As long as I don't have to fight any giant sand worms or something."
paintednoble: (A smile for her)

[personal profile] paintednoble 2013-02-25 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Sand worms? We do not have any of those." he said, gently taking her hand and they went down to the room.

Nickov let her open it up and a wave of warm air washed over both of them. The alien sighed pleasantly and they stepped inside. The sand was warm and soft under his clawed feet and he gazed around at his creation of the mind.

Obviously the air was not the poisonous gas that would have killed anyone not indigenous to the planet. And it was only about half the highest in temperature, about eighty.

[personal profile] pryde_and_grit 2013-02-25 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
She appreciated an atmosphere that wouldn't kill her! And the lack of 100+ heat. She lifted her free hand to shade her eyes and kicked the sand a little. "Book reference, sorry. Dune has red sands..." she noted softly.

"No cities? No buildings?"
paintednoble: (Huh?)

[personal profile] paintednoble 2013-02-25 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Nickov pointed off to the distance where a squat plain building that looked more like a bunker sat.

"Many buildings are partially underground to keep cool and lessen the damage of sandstorms." he explained

[personal profile] pryde_and_grit 2013-02-25 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Makes sense!" she agreed. "How often are sandstorms here? Did you program any?" Because she liked weather, personally. What would it feel like to have a sandstorm pass through her? Did it tickle like lightning? Howl like wind?

Did it matter?

"Why didn't you look for a world like yours?"
