[ John Shepard was not expecting to have to go back to Earth for a recruitment mission, and he was sure the Illusive Man had no expectation of the commander falling into bed with his target, but the previous night at the bar had proven to be one of the most relaxing nights to grace Shepard's life in a long time. He woke to bright sunlight breaking into the bedroom, and he could smell the thick musk of the forest. This place felt primeval, even on an Earth in the 22nd Century, covered in many other places by sprawling megacities.

He felt the presence of another body next to his and then the memories of the night before hit him. So did the not unpleasant ache that accompanied them.

He smiled wryly. Man-whore that he was, Shepard preferred not to do business this way. ]

...Fuck. [ He muttered it to himself and turned to stare up at the ceiling. ]

Last night was the mostly fun kind of rough, with a lot of alcohol and a little bit of crying and some tipsy attempts at storytelling. Steve may not be able to get drunk, but Wanda can, and Wanda very much did. She's been in a state since being unsnapped; everyone has, but she feels constantly on the edge of something awful. Vision is gone, Natasha is gone, and they're just two more heavy losses on her long list.

Steve is still here, though, and Steve is such a good listener. He's also patient enough to carry Wanda to bed and nice enough (concerned enough) to let her sleep in his. Hence her current clinginess.]

[ the story she'd been chasing had escalated quickly, but it's not as if she's a stranger to being in over her head. still, having an avenger as a bodyguard was a fun consolation prize for having her life publicly threatened, even if the tiny, freezing cabin out in the middle of nowhere didn't have much in the way of central heating.

she wakes curled up on the couch next to him, a blanket tucked around them both and the credits of some old movie on the retro tv. shivering, she tucks her toes in under the blanket and shifts in closer, face pressing into his chest to try and keep the cold at bay. ]

( it's a tale as old and cliché as time. a bunch of unsupervised teenagers get together for a party --seriously, where are the adults at this fucking camp? there's the usual dancing, laughter, fighting, making out. and somewhere along the way someone spikes the punch. it's all relatively innocent, ziggy doesn't even intend on drinking that much because honestly it tastes like shit.

but somewhere along the way she and cindy start arguing. they're in the same room, so its inevitable really. cindy going on and on about how ziggy shouldn't be here. she's too young, even though she's not. she's too immature, which she definitely is. at a certain point, ziggy storms out of the mess hall. a too full cup in her hand and nick chasing after her.

she doesn't remember falling asleep ( passing out? ) and isn't even sure where she is. she's afraid if she opens her eyes any semblance of light may actually make her brain explode.
