The Dragon's Bride

Flames, then ash. Your village will be left with little else should the dragon that plagues the countryside not get his demanded sacrifice...if you're lucky. Your good fortune turns south, the bones of your neighbors (or whatever else remains of them) litter a new charred graveyard that was once a town. So, the necessary offers must be made. At least that's the hope. The alternative would be too awful to contemplate. In a last-ditch effort to save those you love — or against your will, as these things tend to go with forcibly created martyrs — you have been hoisted onto the pyre, waiting for the dragon to fly off with you. What terrors race through your mind as your doom impends? How you'll end up in a beast's belly, no doubt. Except, you must consider this: there are worst fates than being a dragon's next meal. A monster that covets you as its treasure...a new type of danger unfurls its wings. You've become a dragon's bride. But could such an infernal creature ever learn to know honest, unselfish affection? Is it possible to be more than a "spouse?" A mere treasure? Perhaps, you could learn to be a dragon's love. HOW TO PLAY ✗ Comment with your character, roles ("dragon" or "bride") prefs, etc. ✗ Y'all know how this goes. Approach "dragon" as a stand-in. The monster mash could be elves, orcs, goblins, werewolves, demons, dwarves, fey, purple people eaters, what have you. Of course, actual dragon and shifters folks are welcome, too! And don't think that you have to make your boring human a boring ol' human. Consider this the monster/supernatural being/cryptid/creature AU of your dreams! ✗ Second verse, same as the first, "bride" registers as gender-neutral 'round these parts. That word choice just sounds a touch more poetic. ✗ Reply to others.

An age had passed since she had retired to her mountain, allowing the few mortals she deemed worthy to live and study under the umbrella of her protection. Yet those had been wards, humans under her care and not suitable for more visceral companionship. Nearly all were of a peaceful nature, which had its place in the world. It simply would not do in a bride.

And so she sat near the edge of her scrying pool and peered into the various sects and the nooks and crannies of the world that lay at the base of her mountain. As her searching brought back to a single shadow again and again, a fierce smile emerged.

Would this one suit? Possibly, yes. There was fire and fierceness that was impossible to miss. What more than that though? She was curious to find out.

[This dragon was a nocturnal one, and a stealthy one; wouldn’t come out with any eyes watching, which meant Frisk is left on the “pyre” to be stolen in the night with only a lantern for company. It’s not a chilly or quiet one, at least, on the eve of summer with the cicadas chirping loud—but it does mean that when the dragon does finally come, it’s hard to hear him coming.

The thing that crawls out from the tall grasses is... hardly a dragon. A wyrm, really. A whelp the size of a big dog and scrawnier than a toothpick. Murky grey-blue-green scales and no horns to speak of, and no wings, either, just a black little snout and a mane that obscures its eyes. A broken shackle hangs at its foot, the metal clinking gently.

This is the terror of the village. Apparently.

The little thing sits there cautiously for a few moments, before doing a few curious circles and sniffing at them. Why’d the village leave a random kid out here, huh? Are they diseased or something?]

Orfre became slowly aware he was awake. Mostly, it was the pain. Everything hurt. Overtaxed muscles and joints, freshly scabbed-over wounds, even breathing felt like a knife in the chest. Or what he assumed a knife in the chest probably felt like, because usually he barely felt even the most grievous wounds. But over a long and gruesome battle he had been thrashed beyond the ability of his cursed blood to sustain him. Or at least, sustain a fight.

He had reasonably assumed he was dead around that point. But no, he'd been dragged... somewhere.

"What the fuck is this supposed to be?"

So once again, he was presented with a 'sacrifice' to appease his carnal nature. And once again, he wondered what the hell he was supposed to do with this. Did they expect him to eat this person? One would think this was pretty outdated at this day and age, but sometimes, humans held onto the strangest customs. It didn't matter that he had the penthouse suite at in the tallest highrise in the city. It never crossed their minds that whatever they possessed, he didn't want? If he really wanted something, he could have his minions acquire it or sue some hapless company out of business so he could have them.

After all, he wore a new Armani and never kept a suit for longer than a month. And he was in the latest butter-soft eggplant Armani, staring at the figure standing at his front door. His eyes narrowed as he looked at the other up and down, trying to determine what he wanted. Entertainment or a quick dealing?
