THE FIGHT MEME

THE (late spring) FIGHT MEME

What else needs to be said? Release your inner warrior and partake in some epic (or hilariously bad) battles! Do you use a sword? Are you a martial arts master? Are you a wizard? Can you even fight?

It doesn't matter if you're just having a friendly spar or deciding the fate of the universe. You're suddenly filled with the urge to fight the next person you meet. Cut loose and show off your skills!

RULES

◘ Post with your character! List your fighting preferences if you'd like (Sparring, Death Battles, Anything Goes, etc.)
◘ Reply to someone else
◘ ROUND 1...
◘ ... FIGHT!

Here are some prompts to pick from (or RNG from):

1: VERBAL
Not all fights are physical. Maybe you're just really mad and really loud.

2: WUSSY
This is possibly the dumbest limp-wristed flail fight you've ever been involved in.

3: WITS
Because why would you beat someone into the ground when you can humiliate them with your massive intellect instead?

4: PRIZEFIGHT
There's an audience to watch and a prize at stake that only one of you can walk away with. Best bring your A-game.

5: SPARRING
You're fighting to improve. Whether you know your partner or whether you've
just met, you can be pretty sure you're walking away from this one.

6: GRUDGE MATCH
Your hated rival is in town. It's time for a rematch.

7: BAR FIGHT
Welcome to the mother of all drunken brawls.

8: YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS!
Maybe your opponent is your friend/sibling/love/other cherished person. Maybe
you're a pacifist. Either way, you're in this fight, but you really
don't want to be.

9: TO THE DEATH
This is it. Too much has happened for this to be anything but a fight to the end. Only one of you is walking away from this.

10: OBLIGATORY SMUT OPTION
Hate sex is the best. And some people like smut and some do not.

11: AGAINST THE HORDE
It's you and your ally against many. Demons, zombies, whatever. Rip and tear, until it is done.

12: GODMODE
You and your opponent both have world-breaking superpowers, and frankly everyone would be happier if you weren't fighting. You are, though, and it's awesome, even if there might not be much left when you're done.

13: RANDOM
Your very own personalized scenario.

It wasn't Spike's usual method of getting information or getting to people, but the bounty he was hunting was apparently tied up in an illegal underground fighting ring, and the only way to talk to the people who knew where he was was to fight his way there.

The first few rounds had been pretty easy; some eager amateurs with no real skill who fancied themselves to be tough guys, easily put down by a quick side step and a well-placed kick or a gentle redirecting of momentum into the nearest wall. Physics took care of most of the work. But the fights did get tougher, and even he suffered a few blows, but managed to make it through. He felt good when they finally called him back out, though a little sore, he hadn't actually had a chance to fight like this since he was still a student, and it was exciting to actually get to get his blood pumping and take a few hits again.

He tossed aside his cigarette and stepped back out into the sandy arena, rolling his shoulders and neck to limber up, waiting for the next person volunteering to get put down.

Kogami would be lying if he said he came to this ring for any reason except to blow off steam and keep his skills sharp. It was one of the few outlets he was allowed, and human opponents made better sport than robots. He'd had a few fights that night, taken a few bruises, but nothing that had done much to dim his itching need to hit something.

But this Spike guy was making waves. He'd put down several of the ring's tougher regulars, and a newcomer with skills was always a more interesting prospect than most of the regulars could provide.

Kogami stepped out into the arena himself, giving his shoulders a quick roll, and lifting his fists as the gates shut behind them.

Like all of his opponents so far, Spike took a moment to look his opponent over, not noticing any glaring weaknesses, but admiring his enthusiasm all the same. Clearly a guy who was in it for the sport of it, just going off of the determination radiating off of him.

He offered over his usual sportsman-like smile, knowing he wouldn't have much time before the bell for a proper handshake. "Hey. No hard feelings, all right? All just strictly business."

He shifted himself only a little and took a deep and slow breath to steady his heartbeat until the referee called out, "3! 2! 1! FIGHT!" and the brass bell rang sharp over the arena

[personal profile] kogami_the_hound 2021-05-06 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
"No hard feelings," Kogami echoed. It wasn't personal, after all. They were both here to win, that's all.

As the bell rang out, he rushed forward fast, moving in a blink of an eye to close in on Spike. Ending things fast with a relentless barrage of punches was something he was particularly good at, after all.

He jabbed first, a left and then a right at Spike's cheeks, before turning his hips, swinging into a heavier right hook, aimed at his temple.

The speed wasn't something that Spike was anticipating. Clearly, this guy actually knew what he was doing, which shouldn't have been a surprise at this level. Maybe he'd gotten complacent in his victories so far. The first jab took him by surprise, but the second was met by a left-armed block. The turn of his stance was enough to tell Spike to duck and shuffle aside to shuffle back from his opponent and rub his cheek.

Was this guy a boxer? It certainly felt like it, considering the weight of that first punch. It'd explain a lot.

"That might be the hardest I've been hit all night. What else you got?"

Now, Spike was interested. His own hands finally went up, his stance loose and casual to the naked eye.

"You show me what you've got, I'll show you what I've got," Kogami replied, tone flat but just a little wry, as he paced, circling at a slow, easy pace.

When he moved back in, he was moving just as fast as before, but this time he ducked down, arms out to try to wrap around Spike's waist, intending to tackle him to the ground and settle himself on top.

Spike was fully intent on showing him exactly what he had if given the chance. Big movements cost more, but small movements, like Spike's lithe side-step to avoid the bear hug, were cheap, as was the foot he dragged in the path of his charging opponent to try and trip him up. This time, he was ready for that bull rush from him.

It wasn't that he wasn't trying hard. Staying alert took a lot of focus, but it was hard not to at least feel a little cocky when he telegraphed that hard. "You think I haven't been? I'm a little insulted."

[Being confronted by unusually angry people is... not much of a surprise, for Emet-Selch. That it should be on the Warrior of Light's behalf is... less typical, much less from someone who is no more or less than a ghost. A surprisingly solid ghost, yes, but a ghost none the less, and for a moment or three, Emet-Selch simply... observes, before finally speaking up.]

If you have aught to say, you may as well do so.

[He has time enough to spare for this, if nothing else, and it's clear enough that something is on the other man's mind.]

Kogami deftly danced around that foot in his path, straightening up as he went. He took another step to the side, jerking forward one shoulder to see if the feint would prompt a reaction.

"Seems like you've got more you haven't been showing off," he remarked casually.

Stepping in again, he jabbed at Spike's jaw, before moving into an uppercut at his chin.

If anything, the dodging made him stumble a bit, but he was pretty quickly able to catch his balance.

"Maybe. Or maybe I'm just waiting for someone to actually make me work for it." This was fun, and he couldn't help but let it show on his face with his smirk and the way he bounced from foot to foot to truly get himself ready.

The first punch was easy to block, and just as Spike was ready to redirect his momentum outward, the second hit him square and sent him stumbling back. His jaw hurt, his head rang, and even his teeth ached. If he was looking for a good way to piss him off, that was a pretty good way to do it. Spike shuffled backward, his toes and balls of his feet firm in sand while he took another deep breath to try to calm himself, though it was getting harder and harder to keep a level head.

"All right. We done playing around? I thought we were in a fight."

Kogami didn't take advantage of that stumble, pulling his hand back and letting Spike shuffle backwards and find his footing, arching one eyebrow.

"Big talk from the guy who just got hit," he remarked lightly.

But Spike seemed to have his footing back now, which meant Kogami was going on the attack again, stepping in and throwing another pair of jabs, both sharp rights at Spike's nose.

[Though this is not, precisely, the first time Gabranth's path has crossed Fray's, he cannot deny that the other man is something of a mystery. That he should choose to spend his time in both armor and helmet rather than showing his face is not particularly unusual - Gabranth himself does likewise, as do the rest of his fellow Judges, be they Magister or not - but at the same time his armor is clearly not of Archadian make.

(Well-crafted, yes. But not a style with which he happens to be familiar, and given he is in charge of the Bureau dealing with the gathering of information, among other things, that it should be so is passing strange.)

Still, he is nothing if not polite, when their paths cross yet again. True, it may be but a veneer over a simmering cauldron of things he dare not address, a facade carefully crafted and maintained over the past two decades lest he be seen as lesser than he already has been, but it is habit. Necessity, even, given the cutthroat nature of Archadian politics - to falter would be to jeopardize his very position, and he has worked too hard to allow more than a carefully measured amount of anger show through at the best of times.

(He has made himself what he had to be. What the Empire asked of him; a loyal hound and he hates it, as much as he hates the Empire that has required it of him. But what else could he have done all those years ago, if not this?)]

There are places one might spar, certainly. Had you a desire to?

[It has, perhaps, not entirely occurred to Gabranth that Fray might wish to do so with him. But that aside, he has little problem with the idea of doing so.]

Spike was through showing off and playing around. He had gotten a taste for how he moved and the attacks he'd thrown out so far. It wasn't hard for him to have learned to step back when he advanced, dodging one back and the other to the side, using the motion to duck and aim a swift side kick at his hip. A fighter who favors his fists would often leave his lower half unguarded, he figured, making his legs an easy target.

Kogami snapped one arm down to block that kick, grimacing as it rattled his arm. Better his forearm in a deliberate block than his hip, at least.

He kept advancing, stepping into Spike's space again, swinging a right hook at the other man's jaw. Whether it hit or missed, the movement would flow into an elbow jabbed forward at his nose a second later.

[Technically, he was well aware that he really shouldn't engage with the man. For as much as he didn't trust him, for as many times as he informed the Warrior that he didn't trust nor indeed, like him much at all, it'd seem that for the time being actually physically acting on those feelings wasn't going to be something he would be allowed to do.

It shouldn't have been a surprise, considering the person he was currently... co-habitating with, so to speak, but yet here he was, deeply disgruntled and yes, at least a little surprised that he wasn't going to be allowed to throw hands or swing swords in order to express his displeasure. The response started with a shrug, the motion almost casual in spite of the spirit's malcontent.
]

If I were to tell you it's getting a bit too uncomfortably bright in here, I can't imagine that'd come as a surprise to you.

['In here', quite pointedly stated and enunciated.]

I'm not particularly fond of it, I'd be rather appreciative of being told where you intend on having all this go.

This guy was relentless, certainly with more determination and energy than any of the guys he'd fought before, which meant that Spike couldn't really afford to not take him seriously. The right hook was easy enough to avoid, but the elbow to his face was met with a crunch of cartilage and spurt of blood from his nose that rained crimson down his chest, belly and even spattering onto his legs.

His vision blurred, but the quarters were close enough to not really need to fully see where he was. He took Kogami's forward momentum and aimed a tight fist square at his gut, pushing forward enough to plant a foot behind Kogami's leg to try and get him to trip over it.
