You know the script. You wake up in a place you've never seen before, with a whole bunch of complete strangers and there's a mysterious voice or a mascot or what have you ready to let you know how things are going to work around here.
The rules are simple: You're trapped here, with no hope of release or rescue. You've been provided with all the basic necessities you need to live comfortably, and all you have to do is settle down and live out the rest of your days here in peace. But if you can't do that -- if you're really so desperate to escape that you'll do anything -- then there's one teeny tiny thing you have to do first.
All you have to do is kill somebody.
But it's not quite that simple. Every death will be followed by a period of investigation, followed by a trial in which the survivors will attempt to solve the mystery and out the culprit. If the survivors guess correctly and out the culprit, the killer is executed and life goes on. But if the survivors guess wrong, then the culprit is free as a bird and everyone else is executed.
Even with the promise of freedom, can you really bring yourself to kill so many other people?
tl;dr: it's a murdergame meme. TIME TO HAVE A BIG OL' MURDERGAME BLAST.
Settings
1. High School A classic! Doesn't matter if you're too old or too young to be in high school -- you've been enrolled and the only way for you to graduate is to kill a fellow student. But hey, the faculties are nice!
2. Tropical Island Weren't you just hankering for a nice tropical vacation? No? Too bad! You're going to have a nice sunny vacation at the beach and if you don't like it, just kill someone and go home. Simple!
3. Prison It doesn't matter if you don't remember committing any crime; you've been tried and found guilty of something or other and now you can go ahead and rot away in jail. If you ever want to see the sunlight again, better put that criminal mind to good use and get rid of your inmates.
4. Space Station THE FINAL FRONTIER... Everything is very chrome and high-tech and shiny and there's all sorts of neat futuristic doodads at your fingertips. It'd be cool, if it wasn't for the murder thing.
5. Shopping Mall It worked so well for those zombie apocalypse survivors, surely you'll have no trouble living here as well! Yes, there is a Starbucks, of course.
6. Haunted House There are restless spirits here, and they want company.
7. Theme Park Spoiler, the theme is death.
8. Wildcard! None of the above scratch your murder itch? Go wild and come up with your own setting!
Downtime
1. Excuse Me, Who Are You? You've just woken up in this weird place and you have no idea what's going on. But hey -- maybe this stranger's more informed than you. Or maybe you can put your heads together and investigate what's going on.
2. Social Link Go! Well, if you're going to be stuck in here for however long, you might as well get to know the people stuck in here with you. You've got plenty of rooms to explore together and there's enough to do to keep you occupied. How do you plan on passing time without killing each other?
3. Vending Machine Woes Somewhere in this place there's a mysterious vending machine that spits out all manner of bizarre items and occasionally dispenses items that belong to you and the other people trapped here. You've got a fat stack of tokens and nothing to lose.
4. Office Hours One of you isn't a participant, you're one of the people running the game, and you've got an open door policy. Come beg for mercy, complain about the latest motive, or just try to Social Link the host. Or maybe the purpose of your visit is more sinister, and you're a mole or potential culprit looking for a little advice. I'm not the boss of you.
5. Wildcard! GO WILD AND BE FREE (or as free as you can be here, anyways)
PUTTING THE MURDER IN MURDER GAME
1. Motive Your mysterious overseer has decided there's not nearly enough murder going on and so they've ~helpfully~ given you a little push to do the deed. Maybe one of your loved ones is in danger, maybe they're offering more money than you could ever dream of or they're threatening to reveal your deepest darkest secrets. Whatever is it, would you kill for it?
2. Murder WELL APPARENTLY, YES. Are you a killer or are you being killed? Either way, someone's not walking away from this alive.
3. Body Discovery Rise and shine, murdergame! It's a brand new day and someone's dead. Better get investigating!
4. Trial You know how this one goes. Line up all your evidence and sniff out the killer -- or sit there and sweat and hope no one works out you're the murderer. Will they go down with a confession or put up a fight?
5. Afterparty You've survived another trial, but more of your friends have died. Even without the executions, trials are a stressful enough affair. It's time to destress and lick your wounds and support each other.
6. Deadland Death's (usually) not the end in these games. Victim or culprit, you're waking up again! Is this place just a ghostly reflection of where you were already trapped, or is it an entirely new prison? Can you see your still-living comrades or not? Oh, and have fun meeting whoever killed you or vice versa. Not to mention the people you thought were already gone forever.
7. Mastermind It's the end. It's time to uncover all the mysteries behind this murder game -- and find out just who trapped you here. Are they really an unconnected party, or is the mastermind someone among you...?
8. Freedom Just as it says -- you're finally free, but at what cost? Have those you love been returned to you, or are you still reduced to just those who made it to the end? Are you on your own, or is anyone here to help you? And more importantly, how the hell are you going to get home?
9. Wildcard YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO

Garnet Bellerose | OC
Age: 23 | Species: Human | Occupation: Travelling Adventurer
Likes: Roses, gemstones, breezy, sunny days
Dislikes: Unexpected rainfall, snowy weather, being alone
Traits: Gentle, generous, gregarious
Trivia: Garnet is almost completely immune to any and all types of healing magic.
[ Cliffnotes and full impressions! TL;DR: Garnet is a human with powerful anti-magical affinity born into a world that runs almost entirely on magic. Oops! She's a sweet, gentle girl who's endlessly generous with her time, emotional labor and just about everything else, because she desperately needs to be needed by people. I'm Sure That'll Go Just Fine In A Murdergame Environment. ]
first meetings in a spoopy mansion I guess
[Also she has zero memory of checking in here, that's probably not insignificant.]
[Her armor and weapons are gone. Finding them would be a good first priority, but of course it won't be that easy. So seeing how many people she actually needs to rescue here is a good enough start.]
You look lost.
[Congrats Garnet, you're contact point one.]
Let me guess, you don't remember coming here either.

She doesn't have to try using her magic to know that it's been cut off. She tries anyway, of course, and finds herself steadily more unsettled by the confirmation.
Something is very wrong.
She's in the middle of making her own rounds of the castle when Vaska finds her and when the older woman speaks up, Garnet jumps so violently that it might have been comical under any other circumstances. As things are, she's scolding herself for making her nerves so obvious even as she pastes an uncomfortable smile on her face. ]
No, not at all. The last thing I remember is settling in for the night at my lodgings, and then when I awoke...
[ She spreads her hands, as if to encompass the... this that they've found themselves in. ]

As soon as he sees her with it, Suga jots down a memo.]
That's my sword
Can I have it back

She's on her way back to her room to try and work out what she's going to do with this thing, if anything, when she runs into Suga – and blinks, a little surprised.
A moment later, though, she has the thought that the sword suits him, somehow. ]
Ah, yes, of course... [ She holds it out for him to take, obviously a little relieved to not be holding a weapon anymore. ] I was just wondering if it happened to belong to anyone already.

I see... [ A pause, as she wonders how to ask this in a way that doesn't come across as too probing. ] You haven't come across an old tome from the machine, have you? With a jeweled cover?

Post-motive in a CASTLE FORTRESS
The melodramatic voice who seems to orchestrate it all calls them all into the Great Hall, speaking from the biggest of her omnipresent screens while displaying her usual starscape.
'Hey, losers! Greaaaat job at the trial the other day. Lol! I'm sure watching the Daisy-Puller get mulched for what she did to poor, dear, sweet Running on MT made you feel like a bunch of heroes! Personally, I loved the way half of you ran to try to save her. Too bad I'm not letting aaany of you assholes near your powers! Haaaahahahaha.
'Wow, hey, if you're gonna look at a girl like that, she's going to start to believe she's not your favorite person in the world! What's your problem? ...Awww, are the widdle infants who poop in their underpants fwustwated? Hah. Here, if any of you want to stop feeling like useless noobs, I'll throw you a bone: Make some corpses by Friday, or the greatest source of power in your world gets shut off... permanently. Look, it works on you. We can make it work anywhere.
'And remember the most important thing when it comes to getting your head out of your shit chutes and killing your friends: Haaaaaaave fun and be yourselves! LMAO. Bye, asswipes.'
That afternoon, Rhee has taken up residence at one of the windows in the newly-unlocked tower, staring grimly out into the never-dissipating mist.]

You'd think that as an adventurer, she'd have come across one or two at least. Even if they weren't of people – animals, beasts, monsters, anything she might have encountered on her journeys and needed to push her way through to proceed.
But she hasn't – or well, she hadn't. And now she has. It's not an experience she's particularly eager to repeat, but their delightful hostess seems to be making a point of making it happen. She wants to believe no one would take her up on it, after seeing what had happened at the trial, but...
Well, she'd believed no one would take her up on the offer the first time around, too.
She feels like she's in a daze. Has been since the trial. When she sets out to explore the newly opened tower, it's more to pass the time than out of any real curiosity. When she sees that Rhee has already taken up watch at the window, she comes to a sharp stop. ]
Ah... [ Should she withdraw? He's got such a grim expression that she's sure he must want to be alone. But it seems rude to just about turn and walk away. ] I... didn't realize anybody else would be up here...

Miss Bellerose.
[He lifts his chin another hair as if physically pulling himself up from whatever he's contemplating so somberly. After a moment, he manages a fraction of his usual smile. It's been like that since their gathering after the trial--he's still Rhee, but dimmed. He spreads a hand towards the window.]
Hey. I'm afraid it's not much of a view, but you're welcome to share it if you'd like. [Half a beat and he rises, faintly abashed.] Or, uh, commandeer it for yourself. It doesn't have my name written on it. And if you'd rather be alone to think, after today...
[He glances aside, shrugs, rubs the back of his neck. Yeah, he'd understand.]

Vaska Lorre | DnD OC
Age: 27 | Species: Aasimar | Occupation: Adventurer
Likes: Destiny, music, recognition, purpose, thrilling heroics
Dislikes: Destiny, failing, betrayal, sewers, nobility
Traits: Theatrical, Ambitious
Trivia: She's a self-trained swordsman.
[Here for all your dramatic posturing about how the mastermind will! Not! TRIUMPH! Tries to take a leadership position, may or may not succeed. If memory regains are involved, it's not super hard to notice her getting more closed off as the weeks pass.]
[Almost certainly commits a brutally efficient murder if there's a "change the past/correct a mistake" type motive.]
Otsuu | Mary Skelter 2
Age: 16 | Species: Human? | Occupation: Blood Maiden
Likes: Little Mermaid, the other Blood Maidens, being seen as a prince
Dislikes: Debt, the strange Nightmare, herself, being called a creeper
Traits: Loyal, Protective, Insecure
Trivia: Otsuu has the unique ability to understand the emotions of Nightmares.
[Basically trained to defeat monsters from a young age, Otsuu and her fellow Blood Maidens (all of them are named after fairy tales) are trying to escape a maze in the ruins of Tokyo. She tries to do whatever she can to project the air of a confident 'prince': confident, generous, suave, and gentlemanly. She's pretty good at it up to a point.
With such pressure it'll become clear that she's not a very good prince and she's trying way too hard. At least she's the sort of person to keep her word and wants to legitimately protect everyone else here. Let's just hope there's no power regaining motives or hostage motives, though. When it comes down to it, Otsuu would do anything for Little Mermaid.]
Rhee Wildern | Etrian Odyssey OC
Age: 21 | Species: Human| Occupation: Medic
Likes: Maps, mysteries, freedom, rough-and-tumble types
Dislikes: F.O.E.s, stuffiness, being pampered
Traits: Adventuresome, responsible, shrewd
Trivia: Rhee died once. He's insurmountably proud of his guild for ensuring that, so far, it's only been once.
[Despite his reported fondness for 'rough-and-tumble types,' Rhee himself doesn't come across as rambunctious so much as amiably free-spirited. Yes, he loves a thrill, and it's his job as a medic and co-leader of his adventuring guild to make sure everyone returns from their thrills in one piece.
When new areas open, he's up bright and early to draw detailed maps and search for what may be hidden, and downtime always finds him up for a chat. During investigations and trials, however, he's a sober, level-headed body toucher. While he's not the best at visualizing the order of events, the evidence he contributes is precise. At afterparties, he makes an effort to check on those who seem to need it, but he then tends to withdraw into a thoughtful silence of his own, often over a drink.
He makes a point not to go out alone at night.]

He comes out with a couple of jeweled necklaces, one of which he drapes over Rhee's neck without so much as a hello.]

Suga Koutarou | Forest of Drizzling Rain
Age: 20 | Species: Human | Occupation: Museum manager
Likes: Shiori Kanzaki, jewelry making
Dislikes: Ghosts, cooking, breaking promises, himself
Trivia: Suga has been cursed by two separate supernatural entities.
[Suga is a mute young man with a bad case of resting lineface, but knowing him for about five minutes reveals that he's a gentle and kind person who's just unused to interacting with people. Ride or die for anyone who shows him the slightest bit of kindness. Cries at body discoveries.
Please don't let him help with afterparties unless you want to set the kitchen on fire.]
Rose (WoL OC) | Final Fantasy XIV
Age: 26 | Species: Miqo'te | Occupation: Adventurer
Likes: Vacations.
Dislikes: Gods. People.
Trivia: Rose's hobby is drawing.
[Though she can be standoffish, Rose does care for others (especially other she's close to. She has had a little bit of a sheltered upbringing, so she's still not used to being around death.]
[An angry healer.]
Anastasia Fabre | Original | OTA
Age: 24 | Species: Nephilim (Half angel) | Occupation: Titan Hunter/Clothing Designer
Likes: Fighting, roses, learning new things
Dislikes: Gods, being alone, her wings getting wet
Traits: Bold, confident, amoral
Trivia: Is able to
eatabsorb dark or malevolent magic to empower her or remove curses. Or both.[Info can be found here! While cheerful and optimistic, she's also likely to start fights and mock people for laughs. Is equal parts helpful or hindering, depending on her mood - though she's deeply loyal once she decides she likes you. Will kill for people she likes, even if they don't want her to.
Also surprisingly a good cook.]
