snow is nice

it's quiet
and the snow's beautiful tonight

snowfall;

stage i; none, streets are already blanketed in white.
stage ii; very light and intermittent.
stage iii; light - moderate. lasts longer periods.
stage iv; continuous, heavy snowfall.
stage v; the hardest of cores - blizzards, snowstorms, you name it.

scenarios;

① fuck the police, this is the best time for a walk. hope you've got a nice thick coat on.
② stranded in the buttcrack of nowheresville? weren't you watching the time? now you've gone and missed that last bus out of there. or maybe you're lost, somehow. what do?
③ literally chilling, in this weather, is quite easy to do. sitting around relaxing in it is a wee more difficult, but sometimes much more enjoyable, especially if shelter can be found. the snow is beautiful to watch, after all.
④ the weather's not going to stop you. your snow fort's packed full of ammo and ready to go. those aren't snow angels over there; they mark where the poor souls you've downed have fallen. be careful with that snowman's head!!
⑤ you're about fifty miles from civilization but there's a roof over your head, so never mind the chilly draught, right? right. you mightn't be the only one lucky enough to stumble upon this little shelter, though. remember to share the blanket.
⑥ everyone stuck outside should be jelly. you've got a fireplace and hot cocoa and damn if it isn't awesome. a heater's not quite so romantic, but it'd do. there'd better be a backup generator in case the power trips.
⑦ mix and match, or make up your own.

[That's a good question, and one he can easily admit even if it was way off his chosen path. There's one place with a stream like this in Chiba after all, including the time it takes there by bike. Honestly, how did he even end up here?]

Sakura City. You're the only guy I know who can get me so lost I end up in a completely different city.

[The flowers were a dead giveaway too, even if they were thinning out as it gets closer to winter.]

How did you end up all the way here in Chiba anyway?

Wowwwww, that sounds so pretty!

[They really aren't in peak blooming season, though, huh. Manami definitely sees more green and brown than pink when he gazes up into the trees around them. He should run away in March next time! And then again in summer, just to cover all of his bases. Wow, that's a lot of trips! He hopes he doesn't forget them the way he just almost forgot to answer Teshima twice in a row. Right, right.]

Hmm.... I'm doing reconnaissance? Something like that.

Recoinnassance.

[He states dubiously. Didn't that already happen once before? He vaguely recalls Onoda reporting that happening in a training camp last year. Again, it seems Manami failed to actually do it properly.

He feels bad for Izumida, if that's the case.]

You got the wrong climber then, in that case. I hope you're not too disappointed.

[He drawls instead, keeping pace with him for now. There are no mountains on this side of Sakura City, so he doesn't need to worry about Manami bringing out his wings and challenging him and potentially trying to kill him for it.]

[He giggles, perfectly carefree.]

Oh, not on you! I meant the area. The scenery, and the hills.

[Not that there are many hills up ahead. Hmm... time to turn back, then. With zero warning, veering right off the path to get a wide enough turn radius.]

Does Sakamichi-kun ever come out this way?

[Probably not, huh. The trees are pretty, but there's not much fun to be had out here on two wheels.]

Hey!

[The sudden switch surprises him, and he stops immediately and tries to match him. He would have liked a little warning, but that's not really something he can expect here.]

Who knows? If you're here to spy, it's not really in my best interest to share those details.

[Though the answer is pretty obvious. Already, his legs are protesting the distance they traveled to get here, what more heading back? The smart thing would be to ride the train back.

Pride keeps him from abandoning Manami for the smart route. Bikes really turn people into idiots, huh?]

And your answer tells me you're just here for sightseeing. Surely that's not the case.

Aw, but I came all the way out here!

[Manami pouts. See, look how pathetic he looks! Don't you feel sorry for him? Please ignore the fact that it melts away a moment later when he gets distracted by something else.]

If you keep your core more steady and centered, you can move less and save energy! Did you know? You're moving your hips a lot.

[Well, being ignored is... not unexpected, if he were honest, but the advice is. Largely because it came out of nowhere.

Hierarchy is important to him, but that also included skill level and-- despite being younger than him, he can grudgingly admit Manami was a much better cyclist than him. So he instinctively shifts and follows the advice, tightening his core to steady it, even as he sacrifices speed for stability.]

Not that I don't appreciate the advice of Hakone's ace climber, but---

[He pauses, reconsidering that, and shakes his head.]

Never mind. Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.

... Rather, eyes on the road. I probably should drag you back before you somehow bring me all the way to Narita.

Toudou-san taught me that! Huh, but your legs really aren't very strong, huh.

[Because Teshima is going kinda slow even when his pedaling gets more efficient. Manami doesn't really have a quick fix for that. Oh well!]

That sounds like fun! But I guess it would kinda take a long time, huh... I didn't bring enough food.

[It's very subtle, but his lip twitches at the corner due to the observation that pretty much doubled as an insult. He never knows with Manami, because even at this moment, it doesn't quite feel like he's really paying attention-- except he is, isn't he?

Really. How did he end up in this situation?]

Ah, is that so? Then why don't you be gracious to your upperclassman and slow down then? There's no reason to rush now, is there?

[It'd not a race (hopefully), and if it was, then he was going to be in trouble. At least, keeping this pace isn't too hard, especially in a place with heavy foot traffic.

Not for now, he thinks, judging by the path Manami takes. It's in the correct general direction for now though, so he doesn't try to steer the path for now.]

What would I report to Izumida if their star climber collapses from hunger?
wingthings: (mnm)

[personal profile] wingthings 2021-04-15 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Ehhhhh? But that's booooring.

[He does slow down just a little bit, though. Because, that's right! Teshima-san is an upperclassman! And upperclassmen are good at treating Manami to free food, classically. He just has to stay on his best behaviour for a little bit, and maybe drop some hints about how this seems like a really nice day for curry.]

Izumida-san is really busy today! So we probably shouldn't bother him, hehe.

[To be fair, that could be true. There's no proof otherwise, for the moment.]

Wow, there are lots of people! Are there any good places to eat around here?
strateagy: (014)

[personal profile] strateagy 2021-04-15 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Why, are you offering to treat me?

[He says, honing in on the game Manami is playing. It wasn't like he wasn't being obvious, mentioning hunger and eating and all that. While Teshima isn't opposed to treating his underclassmen, Manami wasn't Onoda, nor was he Sohoku.

He wasn't giving in that easily.]

How about we focus on getting back to Chiba City first?
