I’ll always love you, Diana, no matter where I am.
smut meme; ![]() They may be a rambler, a gambler, always on the run, a wanted criminal, someone with a higher calling, or just not the type to spend time with you (which may be fine by you), yet somehow, they'll always find their way back to your door. And they'll, again and again, find themselves wanting you, for support, for healing, for feeling alive, for venting frustration and anger, for anything and everything at all. You'll welcome them with open arms...and an open bed, because you want them, too.

She stands suddenly, her chair clattering to the floor behind her, eyes wide, spooked, almost like she's seen a ghost. It takes a long moment before she tentatively reaches out and then pulls her hand back, like she's afraid of touching Cassian and finding that he's just a figment of her imagination.]
Cassian - ? How …

I had to play dead. Only way to stop them following me. I came back as fast as I could.
I'm so sorry.

She doesn't bother trying to obscure thick, hot tears as they slide down her cheeks, instead focusing on curling her fingers around Cassian's, holding on tight.
He doesn't need to hear how scared she'd been, how bereft. He probably already knows.]
Did you speak to a medic? Are you alright?

[In other words: no, he hasn't been properly examined. But he's a good enough battlefield medic, and knows (or should, if he doesn't) that if he let himself deteriorate, Kay and Jyn would kill him.
So maybe it's okay to let it slide a little longer. As his fingers curl tentatively to twine with hers.]

She will trust the medics to give Cassian a thorough exam later. Now that they're close and he's holding her hand and she's reaching out to gingerly touch just below the bottom edge of the bandage, a gentle caress that speaks the words she isn't quite saying.
I'm so kriffing happy that you're back. I'm so relieved that you're safe. Don't you dare scare me like that again - !
Jyn might say - ] Don't be foolish. You should see the medics as soon as possible. [What she means is don't leave me again, don't go unless I'm with you.]
You must be tired.

[He sobers or softens and nods, agreeing with her further. He manages to unlock his own fingers and turns again toward the door. He'll belatedly go through proper processing, medical and inventory and maybe pre-debrief. He hesitates and looks again at her. For two people who've spent more of their (friend?)ship physically apart than together—two people who had to get so good at being alone full stop—it's really hard not to ask her to come with him right now. Even though that's ridiculous and selfish, it'd be so dull for her and she always has better things to do… It's just always difficult to trust the universe, not feel like he's dangerously challenging it to even think something like: She'll be here afterward.]
…Can I find you again when I'm [processed/cleaned up/…] done?

She huffs out what could pass as a chuckle, although she feels anything but reassured once Cassian looses his grip and (reluctantly) pulls his hand away.
She's right, of course, he does need to be checked out properly because even though it's not her responsibility nor her place to watch over Cassian, she'll be damned if he puts off treatment of any injuries or potential infections or bugs and just ... finds himself any worse off.
He doesn't need her fussing over him, but for some part of her, it just feels natural for her to do. Even if she hasn't found the words to say it yet, he means so much to her and the thought of losing him is unbearable.
For a moment, she turns her attention to grabbing her comm and stuffing it into her pocket, raising her head sharply, eyebrow raised high at the very suggestion that Cassian is going to go alone.]
Don't be ridiculous, Cassian. I'm coming with.
