the drunk meme

The Drunk Meme
1. Drinking Games. You're at that special level of drunkenness where previously unimagined things start to sound like a good idea, like another drink. It's cool, I know this great game that will inevitably end with everyone involved being totally wasted. You play until... shit, what were the rules again?
2. Unsolicited Advice. Oh man, you suddenly know the solutions to all of life's mysteries. All it took to figure it all out was half a pint of whiskey! It's time to tell all your friends how to fix the problems with their personal lives, whether they want you to or not.
3. Drunk Texting. Frankly, you can't IMAGINE why anyone wouldn't want to hear about how drunk you are right now. If only you could remember where the vowels are on this tiny keyboard. Drawing inspiration from TFLN is encouraged.
4. Tell them How You Really Feel. You lost some of your less important inhibitions three or four drinks ago, and it's time to tell it how it is! Time to hunt down the person you love, or possibly the person you hate, or even just the person you don't ACTUALLY despise, and bare your heart to them in a way that you'll almost definitely regret tomorrow morning.
5. Karaoke. Shot through the heart, and you're to blame! You give love... a bad... something...
6. Terrible Ideas. This is going to be so awesome, guys. I've got the skateboard, and I'm handcuffed to Steve... is the camera rolling? And who's lighting the fireworks?
7. Flirting. While all that booze may not have enhanced your charm, it certainly did wonders for your ego! Time to find all the hottest dudes and/or chicks in this place and make them swoon before your gin-powered charisma.
8. On the Streets. What better way to follow up a good bar run than by drunkenly wandering the streets in the middle of the night? There may be loud, embarrassing singing. There may be puking in the gutter. You may be completely lost, and not sure why that police officer is speaking Italian.
9. Take Me Home Tonight. Yeah, it's time to go home but you're not going alone, time to drag someone home for a hook up. Let's just hope you can get your body to agree or don't fall asleep first
10. The Next Day. All that you took with you from last night's adventures was a blur of jumbled, confusing memories, a lampshade with googly eyes drawn on it taped to your head, and a brutal hangover. What exactly happened here? And who's that sleeping next to you?

It hardly seemed worth getting so upset over. It was as it was, and she had grown accustomed to this life.
"I like the thought of adventure. The idea of it, the stories about it. But liking to think about something and dreaming of something aren't the same as actually wanting it. Or make them at all feasible options." Why was it so hard to put her thoughts in order? She supposed part of it was her company - Captain Balmore was quite distracting, if even only on a physical level. Likely that was the heated feeling, as well.
There were a great many things Ming liked to think of and dream of, some far less wild and grandiose as adventure.
no subject
"Doesn't have to be a grand adventure. You'd be amazed at what a little change of pace can do." She shrugged, leaning back in her seat with a small handful of grapes.
no subject
No outsider did. None could. Even those who, for whatever reason, came to the city...
The city was one thing. The unspoiled wilderness another entirely. In this moment, she felt certain that the splendor of these islands was truly all she ever needed.
Besides, there was war and poverty and miserable things out there, in the world beyond. It hurt her heart enough to know it was true, she'd no wish to see it. There was nothing she could do, she had her own country to tend to. One woman could only change so much.

"Think you could find some time off to come with me?" It was worth asking, at least. "I think the Queen of Numara would make quite a travel guide.
no subject
"I suppose I could take some time..." It wasn't as though she needed to oversee every small thing at every moment. And it would be so nice, to show off those secret places she'd already made so much of. Perhaps even convince Seth that Numara offered her all the variety she needed.
"We could take a gondola up the river for the afternoon..."
no subject
"I'd like that."
Ming couldn't convince Seth to stay forever. The idea of staying put on these tiny islands frightened her as much as the thought of leaving them did Ming. But that didn't mean she didn't want to stay for a little while.
She was in good company.

And they could have dinner on the gondola, perhaps, or at the lakes if they wished to return by moonlight. It was perfectly safe to do so.
no subject
"So what kinda place is it? Or at you gonna make me wait and find out?" She started working on her lunch faster, now that there was incentive to finish.
no subject
Yes, she knew just where to take the good captain. Up the main river and off a tributary, to where the waterfalls were... that would be an impressive excursion, and perfectly reasonable for an afternoon through evening trip.
She plucked a grape from the dish and popped it between her lips, smiling to herself in a pleased manner. She would enjoy the trip to the falls, she hadn't made it in months. And to be able to share that place...
no subject
"Fine. It'd better be worth it!" But she knew that it would be. Numara was a beautiful place, and she had no doubt that Ming knew every tree and stream and stone.
"And hey: this food is the best I've had in a long time." She drew out the word. "Fit for... well, a queen." Seth sat back in her chair once again with a plate full of food on her lap, still grinning at Ming. She was pleasantly warmed by her mid-afternoon drink, and watching the queen go about something as simple as eating her lunch was just the most relaxing thing in the world right now.
no subject
Ming excused herself for a moment, to relay her plans and set her staff to have everything in readiness.
"There we are. We may leave at our leisure, once we've finished lunch." Which the queen resumed her seat in order to continue. "I'm glad you're enjoying it. Everything is native, of course, we have no imported goods. But Numara's shores and farmlands offer a remarkable variety."
Not to mention the artistry of cuisine was held in high regard!
"And you haven't even seen dessert yet."
no subject
And perhaps she ought not to get her hopes up, but Seth rather hoped the royal escorts would leave them alone once they were there...
"Dessert? Is that a surprise, too?" She smirked, glancing toward the door. It wasn't often that Seth was afforded the luxury of dessert.
no subject
As well as the dessert that went with it, Ming was certain.
"Perhaps this is an insulting question, and I hardly mean it to be, but...can you captain a river skiff? It's so much more simplistic and antiquated than your ship... but to be honest, I haven't driven the thing myself in decades!"
no subject
There was also a delighted skip in her chest that she would be piloting the skiff, not some official guard guy. That meant that Ming meant for them to go alone. Perfect.
no subject
"I should change, of course, before we leave," Ming went on, ticking off checkmarks in her mind as she ran through them. Something more comfortable for water travel, surely. "And you'll need a map, but there's plenty of those lying around!"
no subject
"Yeah, your uh... getup isn't going to do you much good on a trek like this," she added with a laugh. The intricacy of the queen's outfit choice was something to behold. And not something to be caught in while on this little adventure of theirs. No, it wasn't exactly an adventure on Seth's terms, but getting out of the palace with Ming in tow was certainly a start.
"Sounds all right to me!" Seth had mixed feelings about maps. While they were necessary, they did take the rush of the unknown out of the journey.
no subject
She was practically giddy at the thought of going up the river with Seth. It was like...well, it was like having a friend! She'd never gone off with someone like this before.
"I imagine there's nothing you need from your ship?" Ming turned a fond smile to the pirate woman. She struck the queen as someone who never needed more than precisely what she carried on her person.
no subject
"Anything I can help with?" She might as well offer. Seth knew that there were servants for this sort of thing, but it was polite to ask, right?
no subject
No, within moments, a trio of handmaidens had descended and set up a changing screen. Ming disappeared under them and behind it, the young women skillfully and speedily outfitting her in a far more simple, Grecian style gown that fell to just below her knees. Far more comfortable and practical for their little journey! The belt, though intricate and ornate, was adorned with a variety of small pouches and compartments.
Far simpler than packs!
no subject
Nope, there's the screen. Damn.
"...You're not too tipsy, are you?" Seth knew better than to trust the words of a drunken woman, but she seemed to be sobering up relatively quickly. And she had hardly had any alcohol! Seth smiled to herself.
no subject
She supposed it was an easy mistake. She was flushed and giddy, after all. But it was only the prospect of getting out.
Wasn't it?
no subject
"I had no idea!-" But wait. None of the aids had realized. Ming clearly had no idea...
"How come there's a rule like that?" Seth ought to just change the subject. Thankfully, though, she was quite good at covering her tracks after all these years of living life as a pirate. She could just pretend it had never happened!
no subject
"Because I prefer it that way," she said, carefully. "It's my rule and I keep it for personal reasons."
There was no need to share those particular reasons. Her need to always be in complete control of herself, to never have a moment where she could be caught off guard. She could not afford it, for so many reasons! But the story behind it all was not one she wished to share. It was painful and personal and something she wished she could forget.
"Now, if we're all ready, I believe we can make our way down to canal!"
no subject
Instead, she popped up from her seat in one fluid motion, putting a smile back on.
"Lead the way, my queen!" she replied with a wink.
no subject
And Seth was like her! Another immortal! Someone who couldn't leave her life, not permanently anyway. What was the harm in light flirtation? Even Immortal queens had needs and desires that couldn't be tended to in a solitary nature. Physical gratification was easy enough, but not companionship.
And for at least a small time, however long Seth was willing to stay, Ming could have that.
"Come along, if we're lucky we can hit our destination just when the sun's begun to touch the mountains..."
