Aizawa-sensei? He broke school rules?? But he's such a stickler!

[ Nemuri grinned. Yeah, Aizawa did have a phase where he broke the rules... but it wasn't because he was being a rebel, but rather because he was indifferent to them. However, once Nemuri reached graduation and after she went Pro... ]

Things kind of changed, yeah. I mean, he's never been the type to care about rules unless they're really important, anyway - then he's super strict about them.

[ There was something sad about the way she spoke about it, because what made Aizawa change was something serious. ]

But why? What happened? People don't usually just change like that... do they? Is that what happens when you grow up? Aizawa-sensei doesn't even really care about things like "being proper," considering his looks and his sleeping bags everywhere. But when it comes to other rules, he's a total hard-ass!

[ Nemuri looked down at her plate before sighing. There was no point in hiding it, since Kaminari was part of the Hero Course. That meant he knew what he was in for when he joined U.A.. ]

Our friend died.

Aizawa doesn't care about things like being proper or looking good, but after that, he trained even harder and really pushed himself to be the best hero he could be. I guess now he's thinking he'll be super strict on you guys because your training's what's gonna save you and other people in the end.

Oh... shit... [Kaminari said, completely dumbfounded. Their friend died? And if Midnight was still this young when that happened, then...

He took a deep breath, and nodded slowly.]

That makes a lot of sense. I mean, I guess he's really protective of us, even if it comes out as being super tough...

Yeah. He just wants you guys to be safe in the end, because each fragment of weakness could be what does you in, you know?

[ It wasn't fair to expect heroes to be invincible, though they seemed like it... but it was true that they had to present that image, even to themselves, because if they didn't believe that they could come out fighting in every battle, then they really wouldn't. ]

[Kaminari nods, but then he's still frowning a little.]

But it's impossible to be perfect, isn't it? I guess we'll just never please him.

In the end it's not about pleasing him but doing your best and covering all your bases.

[ It was hard not to try to impress one's teachers. Nemuri got that, and she felt that way about His Purple Highness. However, now that she was a Pro, she understood that everything they did was for their students.

She gave Kaminari a smile. ]

[Oh, wow, her smile is so pretty. She isn't too much older than him yet, and this smile isn't like her usual sadistic ones, either. It occurs to him, not for the first time, how kind Midnight-sensei can be when she's not playing up her dominatrix character.]

[ Nemuri flashed Kaminari a wink before she continued to eat the rest of her curry. It was really literally the best curry she'd ever had in her life. Lunch Rush was a genius. ]

[Kaminari grinned, but then squirmed a bit guiltily in his seat.]

Is it bad that I almost don't want you to remember? What if you do and then someone else replaces me as your favorite? I'm not a really good student or anything.

I suppose you get brownie points for helping me out while I'm stuck as the younger version of me.

[ She leaned back, sighing happily. Her stomach was full and she wanted to nap. Maybe because she was a growing girl? ]

Did I help? [Kaminari asks, sitting up straighter.] I just flirted with you and then led you here, so does that even count?

[ Nemuri's expression was one of wry amusement. ]

Well, I could've had a pretty lonely lunch, so I'd say you helped by keeping me company.

[Kaminari crosses his arms over his chest in a large "X" shape.]

Absolutely not! I wouldn't even have flirted with you! I mean, not that you're not really pretty, but you're my teacher! It was different when I thought you were a kid my age!

[ Her stomach now full, she realized she really was sleepy. Guess she needed a nap to catch up with how her body was growing... or she really was a full-fledged adult now and without caffeine, she needed some zzz's. ]

Anyway, thanks for keeping me company, Kaminari-kun. I'm going to go take a nap at the infirmary. I'm feeling way too full and way too sleepy.

[ She stood up to bring her tray to the depository area. ]
