[Cassian would have happily stayed wrapped up with Ben indefinitely if not for the soft giggle that hinted that they were not alone. Regretfully, he moved away just far enough to glance over toward the origination of the sound, finding Iskra and Amal watching.]
Do you need something, Iskra?
[He asked, his voice soft, not unkind or bothered in the slightest. The little girl shrugged and yawned, and he thought he knew what the issue was well before she answered.]
I'm tired.
[Cassian looked to Ben and raised an eyebrow quizzically. The second bedroom wasn't nearly ready enough to be used as such.]
[Iskra wasn't shy about closing the distance between she and Ben, leaning against his shoulder and yawning gently. She hummed softly as she thought through the options she'd been given, quietly murmuring that she'd like the couch.
Cassian nodded, fingers brushing against Ben's shoulder as he passed on his way to pick out the most comfortable pillow and blanket they had, wanting Iskra to feel safe and secure in this strange new place.]
[Cassian's heart went out to Iskra, really, it did. He had lost his family at a remarkably young age, so perhaps it made sense that there had been no hesitation whatsoever in welcoming the little girl into their home. And that was precisely what he intended to do, to give her a home since she had been so cruelly removed from her own by a man too cowardly to help his daughter understand what was happening to her.
His blood boiled to think of it, but that didn't mean that he wasn't so gentle as he fixed a little nest for Iskra and helped Ben tuck her into it, Amal jumping up and finding a place for herself as though it was the most natural thing in the world.]
We'll be here if you need us, okay? [He asked, smiling softly as the little girl nodded sleepily.] Sleep well.
[Iskra blinked heavy eyelids once, twice, and then they did not open again. Cassian smiled faintly at Ben, nodding at the suggestion that they, too, retire to bed.
To rest. Not necessarily for anything to happen other than reconnecting with each other after such an emotionally taxing day. And … the days leading up to it, if he was being honest with himself. Fights like the one he and Ben had did not just happen out of nowhere.]
[Cassian waited until Ben was sitting and slowly stepped closer, reaching out with his free hand to drag the pad of his thumb along Ben's cheekbone as a gentle reminder that no matter what, they were together.]
I don't ever want to be so … unreasonable or uncompromising so as to make you unhappy. [He replied, his shoulders dropping, although he was hardly relaxing.] I don't want you to feel miserable or ... trapped in your own home, your own marriage. You have every right to make your own decisions, Ben, I'm sorry for making you feel like you couldn't.
[Cassian allowed Ben to urge him to sit, and he did, sighing softly once his husband shifted positions, leaning against him, pressing gentle, reassuring kisses to his neck, soothing him further with each one.
Still, he wanted to find a way to make up for the pain that he had caused, even inadvertently.]
[Despite his reticence, Cassian wanted to compromise with Ben. While he didn't want their location broadcast to the galaxy as a whole, he could accept a few on a need to know basis. And if anyone needed to know, he conceded that family laid at the top of the short list.]
Please - [He started, a soft tremble in his voice as he closed his eyes and allowed Ben to hold him close, to share space and air to breathe] I don't want to convince myself of all the reasons why we shouldn't do this. I don't want to argue with you.
It … doesn't … make sense to keep our location from the people that need to know the most, so …

Maybe the Force had guided him. Chirrut had always told him to trust in the Force.
And he was.
He trusted it. And Cassian.
Ben nipped at Cassian's lips, a fond noise coming from him.]

Do you want to camp out on the couch with Amal? Or you can sleep in our bed and Cassian and I can sleep out here.
[He reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind one of her ears.]

Quietly he began to sing an Alderaanian lullaby to her. It was one that Leia had sung to him as a child.
He carried her to the couch and laid her down once Cassian had made a comfortable bed out of the pillows and blankets for her.]

Bed darling?
[He wanted to just lay with his husband. Cuddle with him. Love him.]

Ben sat on the bed and looked up at Cassian, still holding his hand]
I love you. And we're both so stubborn and want to protect each other.

Alright. Alright, Ben. Whatever you'd like.

It's not just about me Cassian. We're partners. This is about what we want. And I know we're still struggling with this...
But we can do it. Together.
[Ben put his hands on Cassian's face and pressed their brows together. He let out a breath, just taking solace in being with his husband.
They would be stronger. They would get through this. They would.]
I love you. So much.

[Ben kissed his head, giving off a soft sigh.
He settled down, still holding Cassian close, his fingers drawing lazy patterns over his arms and chest.
He closed his eyes and was soon fast asleep, holding his husband close.]
