Okay, so usually Zack didn't bother taking part in the Cross-Forces Fight Nights. He sometimes came to watch, but that was more or less the extent of his involvement, despite a few very earnest attempts to get him to sign up for a fight.

Of course, all of that was before he found out Chris was competing in this month's Fight Night. 'Hate' might be a strong word for what Zack felt, but they had definitely rubbed each other the wrong way during the few missions that SOLDIER and the BSAA had worked together on, and the last time they had fought had been a resounding draw.

So Zack had signed up, made it clear who he wanted to fight, and the grudge match was on. Last fight of the night, even, which meant the crowd was all warmed up already as Zack climbed into the ring, rolling out his shoulders.

It wasn't uncommon for the BSAA to join up with other military groups when investigating strange incidents that didn't always involve the kind of monsters that were trying to eat people. Their last mission was unique. The type of monsters that they were up against went above what the BSAA were normally trained for. As opposed to the typical mutated ones, these also had a magical element to them that required more than just the typical hand-to-hand combat and weapons. It had required the outsourcing of members from SOLDIER, Zack being the one that he got paired up with for the mission. He remembers details like strong differences in opinion on approaches, and equally matched pride; Neither one backing down and all things that accumulated to the point of bringing them to physically duking it out. Chris didn't harbor any hate for Zack, but he wasn't exactly a fan of the guy either. He would be the last person that he'd back down from a fight from, especially considering that the last one between them was a draw. It was a battle to determine who was better suited to lead the mission and it wasn't good enough at the time to consider that they may both be equally matched.

Tonight was the night that the long overdue rematch was finally going to happen. The crowd's cheers were loud and amplified and he tried to tune it out as best as he could. It didn't help that the Zack's entrance only made them cheer louder suspecting that he may be the favorite. He climbed into the ring himself and observed Zack in his corner before the match officially began. Chris is lacking all of the tactical gear that he had on the last time that they crossed paths, save for a pair of gloves which makes him look less bulky. However, probably not by much more. He wasn't one to warm up right as he was going into a fight and instead steps forward to extend a hand to Zack in a friendly gesture to shake his hand before starting.

"May the best man win."

His expression isn't exactly warm, but he's not about to start off on the wrong foot again even if it was a little late to consider that now. No harm in a friendly handshake though, right?

Zack isn't one to turn down an offer of a handshake, even if it's from someone he'd rather punch in the face, and especially not when he's going to be getting the chance to throw as many punches as he likes in a moment anyway.

"May the best man win," he says cheerfully, gripping Chris' hand and giving it a firm shake.

He's aware that he's probably the underdog. It's less obvious when Chris isn't all bulked up with tactical gear, but Zack -- stripped down to a pair of shorts and gloves -- is definitely the leaner of the two by a decent amount, and they're more or less equal in height. Still, he's not going to let that deter him, taking a few steps back towards his corner as he waits for the bell.

When it rings (accompanied by a cheer from the crowd), he lifts his fists, taking a few cautious steps towards Chris.

Chris returns the shake with equal firmness before moving back to his corner of the ring as well to wait for the bell to ring. Despite the size difference in weight, he knows that Zack more than makes up for it in speed. He'd need to consider his options carefully before making any moves. The last thing that he wanted was to rush into anything blindly and make costly mistakes that could easily be avoided if he could help it.

The sound of the bell ringing gets his adrenalin pumping. However, he's careful not to approach too aggressively as he tries to gage what Zack will do first. Seeing that he seems to be equally cautions in his advancement towards him, Chris decides to test the waters. His fists are raised close to his face deciding to throw out a straight punch towards Zack's face with his right fist. His legs are slightly bent and planted on the floor to keep himself balanced and leaves his right leg slightly behind. His upper body turns in slightly from right to left to compensate for the force behind the punch. He aims between Zack's raised fists hoping to take him off guard, but realistically expects either a block or a counter, or both. Either way, it'd get him to make a move and he'd have a better read on him.

Zack's moving cautiously as they get closer, arms raised in a defensive stance, keeping himself at the edge of his range. When that punch comes flying in, he's ready for it, weaving around it and dancing in a step and a half, moving to counter with an uppercut at Chris' chin.

He doesn't stop there, firing off a quick jab at Chris' mouth, before moving back again, putting that step-and-a-half of distance between them again and returning to the far edge of both their range.

[ We can start PVP and see where it goes? The zombie/monster element might add an interesting twist where it won't be easy for Wesker to gain the upper hand as per his usual means and even out the playing field. ]

[ There were bigger stakes than just getting past a few pesky zombies. He should have been able to foresee that this wasn't going to be as easy as he had assumed that it would be. The other unforseen factor was that he wasn't the only one who had interests in this particular location. It would be his precise luck that the BSAA would also show up, one member in particular that he suspected had been on his trail for quite some time, and a likely reason how he was even found in the first place.

He had left intentional trails for them to follow in the past for the mere sake of toying with them, however, this one was far from intentional nor was he the least bit amused by any of it. Perhaps the assumption was a far reach and it was simply opposing interests per usual. He would give credit where credit was due that they weren't nearly as incapable as he often thought them to be. Sometimes.

He had tasked himself with acquiring a sample of a new strain of another double-stranded RNA virus that was similar to the agressive Progenitor. There was no one that he thought to be more trustworthy than himself to seek out such a proto-type that could potentially advance his own research. A bit of a gamble, but the potential outweighed any risk that could possibly come of it.

There's nothing that irritated him more than wasting time, especially when the time was his own. Expecting to find his source as punctual as ever when he had arrived, he quickly learned that he had been double-crossed and instead was met with a trap. Considering how many times that he's been the one doing the very same to others, it was only a matter of time before someone would be stupid enough to attempt the same on him despite his reputation. He had an idea where his source was headed but there were more pressing matters at hand that he needed to contend with first. The matter of grappling with an increasing number of the undead, and the one Jill Valentine.

A few shots were fired at the heads of a few zombies that had advanced a bit close. He acknowledges her presence with a final shot to the head of one that was approaching from her blindspot. His expression was as smug as ever despite his annoyance at the situation. The gesture was intentional while he barely lowered his sidearm before speaking. ]
