Interspecies Love Meme

Vampires and humans. Angels and demons. Ghosts and the living. The idea of "opposites attracting" is hardly a new one, but with the rise in popularity of supernatural creatures, aliens, and other sentient beings beyond our human understanding, the forbidden romance trope has been injected a shot of fresh blood- sometimes quite literally.
This meme does just that, taking the whole "not meant for each other" thing to it's most logical extreme. Of course, it's not always angst and depression. These days, mermaids and bird-people can have their relationships in peace to some degree.
Rules
- Comment with your character, putting any preferences you have (ie, "humanoid characters only," F/M, etc). Also, be sure to note your character's "species" for others to reference (Name | Character | OTA | Human, ghost, mutant, alien, vampire, god, zombie-catgirl hybrid, etc).
- Reply to others. If your characters aren't different species, feel free to AU or anything else like that.
- Use the rng to determine your prompt.
- Also I didn't think I needed to say this, but be excellent to each other. Dick comments and anon bullying are not on.
- Meeting: Did you know there were, I don't know, werewolves before this? Or maybe you thought all aliens were evil. Will this...thing change your perception?
- Falling in Love: You know you're not the same, but your feelings don't care.
- Self-Hate: Perhaps you're mad at the being you're in love with, yet you're more angry at yourself.
- Can't Be Together: Whether for self-inflicted reasons or societal rules, you can't be in love with who your heart has chosen and it's putting a strain on you.
- Pushing You Away: Things are getting too intense, and for both of your sake, you want to make friend/crush/lover hate you.
- Beauty & the Beast: One of you is beautiful, the other hideous. Maybe, though, the beautiful one is ugly in the eyes of society, depending on where you live. Whatever the case is, you don't look the same.
- Confession: Screw the rules, you're going to tell that sweet girl/guy/other how you feel! What can go wrong? Or this is something you've put a lot of thought into and you're scared, but you're going to do it.
- First Time...or Not: Finally, the two of you are taking the next step and getting physical. It may go off without a hitch, depending on your...you know, or- OH GOD, HOW IS THAT GOING TO GO IN HERE. Wait, you have a...?
- The Kinky Option: Hey, maybe being different will pay off. Think about it. A long tongue? Ghost powers? Sounds like it could be fun in the bedroom.
- Prejudice: "What are you doing with that dirty monster?" "You know we can't be involved with humans!" "We don't take kindly to your type around here." Why can't people just leave you two be?
- Facing Your Instinct: It's hard to be with someone when you want to suck their blood. Or eat their brains. Or possess them.
- Because of Me: Your lover has been dragged into your fight or hurt by others of your kind. Now they're in the crossfire.
- Standing Up For You: Hey, knock it off! I don't care what you think, he's perfect in my eyes.
- You Don't Know You're Beautiful: The fluffy option where you're trying to make your loved one see just how much you care and how they're beautiful to you, no matter what.
- Gifts: Show your affection with a gift from your culture.
- Starting a Family: Can you even reproduce? Is it something you want to consider? Perhaps it's new ground to tread, so you'll have to be the first to think about it.
- WILDCARD

"We have to be." Thorough, that is. Otherwise they ended up wasting their time and efforts. "Are you going to send those to the BSAA or are you pretty much alone out here?" This wasn’t a topic they spoke much on. Mostly it was what the Order could do for the BSAA rather than information going the other way around. They knew as much as the BSAA publicly put out and some that they didn’t. Vergil wasn’t about to take an operative of another government-affiliated organization into his organization without checking out the threat-level of the second party.
Kat glanced at Chris’ shoulder when he stretched, noting the tension. The nerves must be waking up again. That was a good sign; it meant they weren’t severed or damaged too badly.
The question earned a deflecting shrug. "He saved me. I’d be dead, or worse, if it weren’t for him." She let that answer for itself. Kat wasn’t open enough to Chris to offer more. She had the feeling the BSAA captain didn’t trust Vergil despite the efforts (in her opinion) the Order leader had made. And she didn’t think that feeling would go away either, so stopped fighting for it. If Chris and Vergil worked together on a sense of business, then that was the best the could hope for. No one said they had to be friendly.
no subject
Kat’s non-answer was what he expected. She wasn’t going to tell her life story right now. Chris felt like he had made some ground though. Little by little he was gaining her trust but it would be a long road.
“Normally, though, I send this sort of stuff to our forensic accountants but I used to do more of this when I was a solo agent instead of a Captain with a team.” Chris didn’t mind giving up parts of his life story. It was mostly work, of course, but that was his life. And he was pretty sure Virgil could find all of this out on his own anyway.
There would be a working relationship between him and Virgil but it would never be fully what Virgil wanted or what Chris wanted. The thing that forced them to work together was Dante, in a sense. Without that, without the BOW connection to Limbo, they never would’ve crossed paths.
“Two weeks of sitting around doing this will make me miss them.” He shook the papers a little bit for show. Depending on how much pain he felt the distraction of paperwork might actually be good. Or the medic would come back with some good painkillers. Then he wouldn’t be able to read anything well and make sense of it.

Unlike the Order, founded and hand-grown by one man with a goal and vision, the BSAA was a government thing. All Kat knew of government organizations is they were made by a group people who had only their own interests involved in creating it. Usually related to gaining and holding power. Still, she knew the BSAA was a “heroic” organization, designed to protect people from the bioweapons others created. Just, she wondered if they were “heroic” in truth or if that was simply the way the media spun things. After all, she considered the Order very heroic for their goals and aims, but the rest of the world vilified them as criminals and branded them terrorists. What was to say it didn’t work the same in reverse?
Kat broke from her thoughts when Chris offered some more. "So your group’s set up like ours. People with different skills handle different tasks." While Vergil came across as a jack-of-all-trades, the rest of the Order tended to be specialized. Even Dante had fallen into his own place in the Order: the muscle. Kat really doubted Vergil would try to fit another skillset on him. (She doubted Dante would let him.) "Do you like being a captain or a solo agent?"
She picked up one of the pages again to review what Chris had told her earlier, eyes and finger picking out the different columns and then making the connections to which on the list was the first she would look into. It was an interested practice. "It might not take two weeks." Kat looked at Chris again. "Information’s not the only thing we can get from Limbo. But you’ll have to talk to Vergil about that."
Whether he remembered it or not, Chris had already experienced what Kat was referring to. Back in Florence. And she had her own thoughts about what she'd seen today as well.
no subject
Barry, Jill, and Rebecca, they were all members of the family and it was intensely tightly knit. It would take a hell of a lot to break them apart. He had spent years looking for Jill, never giving up on the idea that she was alive. These were people he would die for without hesitation.
“That’s pretty standard for organization,” he said with a shrug. BSAA structure and Order structure weren’t anything special. What they were set up for was specialized but the way they were built wasn’t. Business and organizations ran like that all the time.
Her other question was a little harder to answer. Chris had to think about it for a minute. “Being an agent has less responsibility. It’s you and your partner that’s it. If it goes bad it’s just the two of you that suffer. As a Captain, your people die. People you looked after and trained. It’s harder but more rewarding.”
Chris was a good leader and people knew it. There was strength, charisma, and intelligence. He knew his work and he did it well.
“Well, when they get back maybe I will.”
no subject
Of course, Vergil had some selections. Almost anyone being shown Limbo City for what it was would elect to simply return to their deaths. Unfortunately, it wasn’t that simple. "We’re here because we believe this is the only way we can defeat the demons." Chris already knew that, but she felt like reiterating the point.
Kat thought about his answer as well. "But it’s never just the two of you. Not when you have that family." The way she saw it, the pairs in the BSAA didn’t just come from a void. They were likely put together based on their complimenting strengths and obviously had to get along. Thought went into that kind of decision. And if it was as tight-knit as Chris said, then there were people behind them waiting for the two to return. If that pair got into trouble, more than just them suffered. Not just emotionally, but the organization lost strength too. Why else would they be willing to send a strike force down because they hadn’t heard from Chris in a few hours?
She sighed and leaned back against the chair. "Sometimes… I can’t help but feel like Dante does. Why bother? What’s the point? In the end, evil still exists. Pain, suffering… Take care of yourself should be the only thing that matters."
no subject
“Well, if you’re going to be that selfish what’s the difference between you and Rider?” He asked, not unkindly. His tone was definitely firm. “That’s all these people care about themselves. They want money and power for them. Not to help anyone else. It’s selfishness. You want to be that selfish? You should walk out the door. Now.”
Which he didn’t think Kat wanted. No one joined a cause when they were that selfish. They didn’t try to warn people or keep someone asshole captain from ruining his shoulder more. She wasn’t that selfish. She wasn’t that type of person.
“Evil will always exist so it’s even more important good people like you and me fight back. Make them fight for every inch they want and help people along the way. It’s the best thing you can do save people.” Now, his tone softened a little bit. Because this was important, this was what mattered and kept Chris fighting. He looked over at his jacket and the blood stained patch.
“You keep fighting for the ones you’ve lost. For friends and family. For the guy you buy your groceries from. You go into the darkness so they don’t have to.” Chris wrinkled his nose because that sounded real pompous and preachy. It was pretty important though that part. It was what kept him going after China and everything else. It’s what kept him fighting through shoulder injuries and falling Ferris wheels.
“Focus on that and you’ll find the strength to keep going.”

To want to preserve one’s own life and the tiny corner of the world they call home wasn’t something she was going to condone anyone for. But like Vergil had tried to offer to Dante, those who had the ability to fight for those who couldn’t… or didn’t want to… should take up the banner. Just like Chris said as well. Kat picked up one of the papers again to have something to look at. "I’m not a good person. I don’t think many people in the Order are. Not according to the standards you’re used to." What he said was true though. Nothing would change if people didn’t fight back. Lies would continue unless someone was brave enough to reveal the truth. The best way to save people was to fight the oppressors. Talking things out didn’t work.
"I’m sorry, but I can’t say I’m doing this entirely to help the people who don’t know any better. Part of me just wants to see those bastards get theirs." Revenge was a very large part of the Order’s resolve to fight. Chris probably didn’t have to think hard to know it was a large part of Vergil’s stake in this as well. Though he seemed far less consumed by it than Dante, who was throwing in his lot with the Order entirely to slaughter the man who murdered his parents. And the more demons he took out along the way, the better. "Have you ever woken up… and realized everything you thought you knew was a lie?"
no subject
Once again he reached out and squeezed her shoulder, the gesture of a big brother or friend. Kat might not see them that way but Chris wasn’t going to fight the urge to comfort. That was one of those things a leader had to do sometimes. “That doesn’t mean you can’t be better. Half of being good is trying. And hey, I’ve done a lot in my career out of spite. It’s not bad just don’t let it corrupt you. I lost a whole squad that way.”
His anger had cost so many lives in China but China was a whole mess for a lot of reasons. His temper was just one factor.
“I was awake when it happened. My captain back when I was a cop was working with Umbrella. He helped release the virus that destroyed my home town.” Chris shook his head as he thought about Wesker. At least he killed that bastard. “Since then it’s been one surprise after another. For nearly twenty years.”
no subject
The touch to her shoulder made her tense and she twitched it away on instinct. The touchy-feely comradery he might have in the BSAA wasn’t well-versed in the Order. After all, a lot of these people came from less-than-stellar places. But some of the clouds over her head faded a little when Chris mentioned being better. And when he said he had done things for the wrong reasons in his own career. Somehow that made him more relatable; he’d been starting to drift towards a “holier than thou” state, but that brought him back down to normal levels.
"I think we’re all pretty much corrupted already," she murmured, though there was a lace of amusement in her voice. "Sorry you lost your squad. I’m sure that must’ve been hard on you." Especially considering the closeness Chris said he had with his co-workers. The Order wasn’t close-knit enough to cry over an operative dying in the field. But taking vengeance for them, that the Order could and would do.
"Your captain?" Kat picked her head up and looked at Chris in surprise. "He betrayed all of you…" She seemed to dim a little, familiar with the sensation. "Did you kill him?"
no subject
Well, he was a little in for it now because of Dante. No one gave a damn about Dante until Chris stumbled across him. He had a feeling it was the same with Kat and Virgil. The way she closed up and the way she shied away from touch was pretty telling.
“Eventually but he hurt a lot of people before I could.” Chris almost sighed again as he thought about what Jill went through. She was still his best friend but she wasn’t the same as before Wesker got a hold of her. It took them awhile to get back to where they were today. He loved her through it all.
“That’s actually where the biggest rumor about me comes from,” Chris said, trying to lighten the mood a little. “People say I punched a boulder. Sometimes they say I shattered it with the punch. It depends how much the older agents want to mess with the new guys.”
no subject
How could he prevent such a thing while still willingly working in this field?
Kat frowned at the answer, but her eyes focused in undisguised satisfaction. "Good. Bastards like that deserve to die." She had no sympathy for the demons she helped Vergil and Dante. Didn’t have sympathy for humans who acted like demons either. Unlike the Nephilim twins, she grew up with bad people and didn’t have the “luxury” of being able to blame things on demonic forces. Perhaps that’s why she opened up a little to Chris already.
He knew what it was like to face off against bad people. Humans. Not demons.
"So… which is it? Did you punch a boulder? Or did you shatter it?"
no subject
Most of the evil he faced was caused by humans. They made monsters and he fought monsters but if someone asked him what was worse he’d name the scientists and doctors that made these things. They did it for profit and power and they didn’t give a damn who got hurt in the crossfire.
“Neither. I pushed it. Jammed my shoulder against it a few times until it started to roll. But the legend spread.” He made a sweeping gesture with his arm. “Captain Redfield is strong enough to punch rocks.”
Chris winked at her. “The way I look didn’t help quell the rumors.”
Given that he was still sitting there shirtless it was easy to see the muscles and strength. He was burly than Dante or Virgil. Well, he assumed Virgil was cut similarly to his brother.
no subject
She glanced over to Chris when he mentioned his looks, a small smile quirking across her mouth as she gave him a once over. Obviously there was nothing bad to look at over there and despite the room’s general lack of admiration over the famous Chris Redfield sitting shirtless in their basement, he still had gotten plenty of admiring gazes. Except… there was one small problem with that. It was enough to finally break Kat into a full smile at the thought of the man breaking rocks in legendary status.
"Better not flirt too hard, Chris," she giggled. "I don’t think anyone wants to face your jealous boyfriend." She respected Chris enough to keep her voice down so it was just the two of them, but the general comment was already known. Didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the two had some chemistry together. Dante was a pretty laid-back guy, but no one wanted to get on his bad side. After all, his brother was leading them and they knew how strong he was. And Vergil was refined. Not a wild cannon that could go off whenever.
no subject
Yeah, the whole Order probably knew how they felt about each other. It wasn’t a big secret. Chris was only bothered by the fact the relationship could be used against them. Someone could manipulate them using that emotional connection. He hated that idea.
The audience he had glancing at him while they moved around the basement would refocus on their work and eventually he’d fade in the background. They’d get bored of the shirtless injured guy. Chris would keep watching them though.
“So tell me about magic.” Chris hoped to prompt her to keep talking to him. “I know like... Disney magic. Wave a wand and poof! You’ve got a dress on a princess.”
He wiggled his fingers to indicate something magical happening. “Pretty obvious I don’t know anything about this spooky stuff. Well, besides zombies.”
no subject
Kat didn’t think Chris would ever get “boring” to most people. He represented quite a few things to the members of the Order. Not all of them good, but some, yes. Looks were in the “yes” category. Unfortunately they were too focused to get sidetracked fantasizing about Chris Redfield. (At least on the job.)
As expected, Kat perked up when he asked about magic, and smiled at Chris' efforts to do a magical action. "It’s mostly a combination of understanding Limbo, my powers as a psychic, and Wiccan magics. The Wiccans believe magic to be part of nature. Using circles, elements, and ingredients, you can trigger and encourage change in the world around you for good or for bad." She reached behind her and pulled the stencil from its tube. "The spell I use disrupts energy. With it, I can make portals between our world and Limbo. I can also interact with Limbo and communicate with certain people inside it. I’m also good with tracking down things, but sometimes that requires prediction…"
no subject
“Ah, get to know him. You’ll see something.” Chris wasn’t going to give away all he knew about Dante and his soft heart. He had been trusted to keep those secrets and would. Dante didn’t like to be vulnerable so Chris wouldn’t make him feel that way. “But I’m the big marshmallow.”
He listened attentively to Kat’s description of magic even though he thought it still sounded like bullshit. It wasn’t. He had seen it in action but... it would take some time to change that first initial response.
“I guess there aren’t many books that can help you with that.” He wanted to keep her talking so he could better focus on everyone else.
no subject
"You certainly don’t look like a marshmallow." From the man’s physique to the way he was barking orders this morning and be pretty physical with her in getting her to move. But Kat could see how Chris was a caring guy. You didn’t become a captain of your squad and carry on the memory of your dead second if you didn’t have a big heart.
"Actually there are a lot of books. From ancient texts to modern readings. Wiccan is a flexible practice. But a lot of the psychic or medium texts are fake. Generally, if you actually have that kind of power, you keep it hidden. Otherwise people come try and take you away to experiment on you…" Kat frowned slightly. "That might’ve been one of the reasons we weren’t able to locate Dante." The guy wouldn’t want to out himself as something other than human in a world that would just try to add captivity on top of its attempts to marginalize and kill him.
no subject
But if there was some way to do that then Kat would’ve done it for the Order, he assume. Maybe she wouldn’t mention that to him. The Order didn’t fully trust him given his military background and working for an anti-terrorist organization. They had no real reason to trust him at all but he came with Dante and they wanted Dante.
“How long do you think they’ll take?” He asked as he glanced at his watch. It was well into the green so the medic had done a good job. No caution anymore.
no subject
"You really think, if a government organization knew about him and his powers, they wouldn’t want to capture him and experiment on him?" She made a dismissive sound. "People like the BOW-makers you chase would want to weaponize him." To say nothing of the ones that would just want to kill him because they couldn’t control him.
Vergil opted to remain hidden from Mundus in order to utilize the advantage, but he also kept himself hidden from those same kinds of people. Well, he kept his powers hidden from them. Despite the Nephilims’ great strength and supernatural abilities, they could be killed if they weren’t somewhat careful. The fact Dante had scars proved that.
"And no, I can’t do any large shields. At best I can cloak myself and two other people. But even that’s limited." For a long time, Kat used her abilities for herself. Just to clear that up before Chris got other ideas. She could see how her wording raised the confusion. The other question earned a small hum. "Hard to say. Driving there, collecting everything, driving back… if they don’t run into trouble… two hours at the most."
no subject
Chris’ mind had thought of a few possibilities why demons would be in the BOW game. It didn’t make much sense for beings that were already stronger than the average person. They didn’t give a shit about people or their wars, he imagined, except for the general suffering.
But if they could make a Dante who would oppose them? Who could have the power? It would keep the ruling demon in power.
Two hours felt like a good guess but Chris was still unease after the hunter attack. He didn’t want anything to happen to Dante while he wasn’t there to watch his back. Trusting Virgil was a real struggle. “Well, I guess we’ll get some good work done. Or just get to know each other better.”
no subject
But when Chris offered his thoughts on why the demons and Morgan teamed up, Kat blinked and lifted her head. "That… holy shit." It was an idea and a lead, but she had no idea where to start or what to even look for. They didn’t know where Morgan was or what company he was doing his business for or with. And yet, for whatever reason, the idea lit a few coals.
"For all we’ve seen of Limbo and demons, I’ve never heard or seen anything on the other side." Which was strange, considering Kat didn’t think angels would like Dante and Vergil either. But then again, most of the time, angels weren’t sitting behind the scenes pulling strings on human beings.
"We should bring that up with Vergil. He might find use for it… but they’d be generating some kind of human demon crossbreed. Unless they could somehow extract the angelic genes from a Nephilim." If that was indeed how it even worked in that hybrid body of theirs. Wouldn’t a angel/demon hybrid be stronger than a human/demon hybrid? Or did they just want any hybrid to try and get the advantage on the Nephilim twins? Chris was right in assuming the demons wanted to stay in power. Particularly Mundus.
"Vergil told me that the reason the Nephilim were hunted down was because only a Nephilim can slay a demon king. Mundus will try everything he can to kill Dante." Including teaming up with humans to develop stronger underlings. And if they managed to succeed, even the addition of Vergil wouldn't help.
no subject
The question of angels was one he couldn’t answer either. Chris was rather lapsed in religion and his only personal belief that he still held firm to was his parents were somewhere in Heaven watching over him. He hoped they were proud of all the good he had done.
“If Morgan could capture Dante or Virgil and somehow hold them to get samples he probably could sequence some of their DNA. Assuming the same methods that work on human genes work on theirs.” And that was a lot of assuming. Sure, Virgil and Dante looked human but that didn’t mean their genetic code did too. It might be wildly different. It was another area where he understood the basics and that was it. Rebecca could probably come up with a better theory.
He scratched at his side flaking off some of the dried blood. “Which seems like a good reason to make your own bio weapon in response. Turn the strength of your enemy into your defense.”
He flicked the dried blood away. “I’ll talk it over with Virgil when he gets back.”
no subject
Kat moved over to the transfusion stand and inspected it and the small vital display hanging from it. Chris was doing well on the blood since he wasn’t leaking it all over the bed anymore, thanks to the doctor’s stitches.
"I wouldn’t know. Vergil won’t let any of the doctors sample his blood. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him bleed." Then again, Vergil wasn’t on the front lines often and he was far more refined and focused than Dante when it came to fighting. Spilling his blood seemed like a waste to him and he took pains to avoid doing so. It gave him a very interesting fighting style, the times Kat had seen him battle.
Of course, Dante on the other hand… She didn’t think anyone would have trouble helping themselves to the Nephilim’s body fluids. Provided they didn’t get killed trying to collect if off him. "We won’t let that happen to either of them." Not Morgan or anyone like him. Which raised up another question, considering what Chris just mentioned about making bio weapons being a reason behind Morgan’s alliance.
"What about the BSAA? Have you told them you’re working with someone who can throw a bus through a wall? I can’t believe they’d be uninterested in someone like that."
no subject
That made sense. If neither brother could get sick there was no reason to get blood drawn for tests and if Virgil wasn’t fighting anyone the way Dante fought everyone then there was no reason for him to bleed.
“The people who saw him throw buses around are dead. Except for me.” Chris knew she was being protective of Dante but it was a little insulting to the BSAA and his efforts to protect Dante. “The only other person who knows is someone I trust. She won’t turn him in.”
After the experimental hell Wesker put Jill through she was the last person to see anyone else become some sort of test subject. He didn’t see any trouble in the future. “I know you don’t like the government because you’ve only known a corrupt one but the BSAA is good. We’re against that type of experimenting.”
Dante was safe. Chris would make sure of that. If the BSAA made moves on him then they weren’t the organization he had given his life to.
no subject
Kat softened a little at the mention of the dead from Florence. She knew that on a factual level, but still felt bad for bringing it up. Hadn’t been her intention; just had skipped her mind from what she’d been referring to. And she didn’t see her question as insulting; Chris may be protective of Dante, but that wasn’t speaking for the rest of his organization. People who did their best to fight against monsters and protect the world. Why wouldn’t they want to capitalize on a potential power increase? She had her own distrust of the BSAA. Her caution was only reinforced when Chris reasserted that he’d been pretty tight-lipped about Dante.
"Just like you’ve only known bad terrorists." Kat realized she and Chris were coming from two sides of the same coin. And she didn’t blame him for his thoughts and background, nor did she see her own views as wrong either. It’d take proof on both sides to weather through the initial distancing and distrust. Chris had more on his shoulders that he risked than she did. Still didn’t mean a “good” organization like the BSAA was going to work openly with a “bad” organization like the Order.
She shook her head a little and then pushed herself up. "I’m going to warm up some Hot Pockets. Do you want any? Something to drink too?" Move on to a better topic. This one had the potential to get testy.
