walk it off, buddy

You or your meme partner has been hurt, but don't worry! This time around it's not that bad. You can still limp your way out of this mess.
INJURIES.
1. Sprain/strain. How did you screw up walking?
2. Broken bones. Simple fractures still hurt.
3. Cuts. Hopefully one of you has a sewing kit.
4. Burns. Location, location, location. Let's pray this one isn't on your ass.
5. Concussion. No, they're most likely not holding up fifteen fingers.
6. Other. I'm not a doctor.
HOW'D IT HAPPEN.
1. Stupidity. You did this to yourself.
2. Accident. Is an unintentional attack still an attack?
3. Attack. Don't lie, you deserved it.
4. Other. It's probably still your own fault.
WHERE'D IT HAPPEN.
1. Home. Did you remember to invest in a first aid kit?
2. School/Work. This should be excellent for getting you out of doing stuff!
3. Outdoors. Predators like the smell of blood. Clean up asap.
4. In the water. Hopefully there aren't any sharks!
5. Other. Like a hospital. That'd be handy.

Man, you're not doing shit!
[ his anger isn't directly meant for ren, but if ryuji doesn't draw the lines early, he knows he's going to find him trying to hobble around later on, pushing himself past his limits. and that won't solve anything. ]
My bad. Uh... [ of course it's short-lived; his fire never lasts long when he's looking at ren. besides, he's got a bigger job to do, shuffling the bundle in his hands from one palm to the other. ] I gotcha something...this step's, like, crucial.
[ he just wishes sojiro had larger bags on hand. anyone can tell he's improvised here, given how the towel wrapped around the baggie he's holding barely fits around the thing. this is why makoto and haru are out shopping while ann consoles futaba, and yusuke prepares the tea, since it sounded like a good idea at the time. ]
Sorry for intrudin'... [ ryuji mumbles this as he crouches down, icing ren's ankle, ensuring as much of it is blanketed as he can. ] I can get another towel if you need it but cold's part of the job, so...y'know... [ it's all pretty self-explanatory, but it won't stop him from trying to elaborate, just in case. ]

[He looks contrite. He just didn't want Sojiro being cranky at anyone for using Leblanc's supplies, but Ryuji has a point to shout him down on it.
As he feels the freezing ice cold against his sensitive ankle, he lets out an involuntary hiss and grits his teeth, forcing himself to stay still. God, that's uncomfortable, though it'll hopefully go numb soon enough.]
Did you ever sprain your ankle on the track team? [He's curious, but it's a distraction, too.]
no subject
[ ryuji can sympathize. it won't be of much use, but he wraps a warm hand around ren, a little further up his leg, to help stabilize him. they should keep talking; anything to get him comfortable. ]
Yeah, couplea times. Tripping over yourself or pulling a muscle's pretty common...
[ more often than not, however, he's the one who had to see to his seniors. this is all old hat for him. ]

How long did it take to heal for you?
[Mentally, he's already trying to figure out the logistics of how he's going to get to school, never mind what they'll do about their work as Phantom Thieves. Not to mention all the part time jobs that need him to be on his feet for hours...
Yeah, this has thrown a spanner in more things than he realised.]
no subject
Well... [ his fingers tap in thought across ren's skin. he probably could've gotten up by now, but ryuji's staying put for as long as possible. ] Everybody's got their own pace...different constitution an' all that...
[ ooh, looks like ryuji's using his brain for the first time ever! ]
Shaddup! [ he's going to ignore morgana as he waltzes away with his tail curled up in the air. ] For real, though, I wouldn't walk on it for like a week. Better to play it safe.

Got it. I'll call Takemi later and see if she has any crutches lying around the practice.
[And maybe some painkillers and bandages, too.]
no subject
[ oh! the back-alley doctor! he didn't even think of that... ]
Oh, yeah! She's got some strong stuff, right? [ but: ] Does that still work outside of the Metaverse, though?
[ ryuji can't remember if they ever tested this out. none of them have ever had it this rough in the real world before. ]
no subject
[It just works a little differently in the Metaverse, that's all.]
She's probably closed by now, but I can call her in the morning.
no subject
That'd prolly speed it up if it works...
[ how fast are they again? it clashes with the experience ryuji already has, since math isn't his strong suit in the slightest. if he can actually apply it to something of interest, however... ]
You could try bearing weight in a few days, then? [ he stares up at the ceiling, lost in what little calculations he can do. ] But this shit takes like, six weeks to heal if it's nasty...
[ hopefully ren won't go wild as joker before then. ryuji needs to tell everyone. ]
no subject
[He'll get advice from Takemi too, of course, but he trusts Ryuji's judgement on this one.]
Six weeks would be a big problem. Either way, we're going to have to decide what to do while I'm on the bench. We might have to decide whether you guys are happy to explore Mementos and fulfil requests without me, for instance. [People are still going to need their help, with or without Joker leading the way... And they did make a promise with Morgana.]
no subject
Yeah, you're definitely down for the count if it's hurtin'. Sorry, man.
[ pat pat. takemi will probably explain it in more concise terms...ryuji only his his own experience on top of his coaches to work with here. ]
C'mon, don't worry about that right now! You gotta relax, take it easy...
[ how can he reassure ren? ]
Think of it, uh, like a vacation? With a lot less moving around!
no subject
[He flops back on the couch, linking his arms behind his head.]
Maybe if I close my eyes and think of Waikiki...
no subject
In this weather? Thought you twisted your ankle, not your brains!
[ does it work like that? he's obviously reaching. ]
Guess napping it off still counts as rest, though...
[ would more fun facts help put ren to sleep? ryuji counts them on his fingers while he talks. ]
You got, uh...rest, that's a no-brainer, then you gotta ice it and stuff— [ the pack's about to fall, so he'll ad just it, like so: ] —but you need to compress it, too! Like a rice ball! [ nice metaphor! ] Oh, yeah, and elevate it...I think it's something about...blood pressure?
[ circulation, but. baby steps. ]
Anyway! You gotta do it, or you'll die. [ pause. too dramatic? ] Er, not literally, but you feel me...
no subject
[Don't shoot him down, Ryuji. Listening to him ramble isn't exactly the most soothing thing to fall asleep to, but he does yawn and close his eyes. Maybe he's just gotten used to it by now.]
You've got a great bedside manner, you know.
no subject
You gotta think, like...kotatsu, not the beach...
[ oh, good idea, maybe he should bring that out as well...the nurses always say something about alternating cold and heat, right? to reduce swelling? ]
For real? I ain't, uh, skilled or nothin'.
[ joking aside, ryuji will take whatever he can get. ]
no subject
[Peering up at him. Don't undersell yourself, buddy!!]
no subject
Oh, crud... [ he peers at it, just to see if anything's gone awry. ] Is that normal?
[ it's probably normal. ryuji can't remember; his worried expression comes and goes quickly. ]
Eh, prolly good...
[ hopefully the others hurry, so he can outfit ren a little better. ]
