On the surface, it's just like our modern world. TV, spray tans, toddler pageants and iPhones. But under that seethes the world's best-kept secret: magic. Vampires, werewolves, demons and ghosts. And the Slayer -- one girl in each generation Chosen to fight the demons of the night.

WHO ARE YOU?
1 - SLAYER. You're the girl herself. The Chosen One who fights evil, for the safety of all humankind.
2 - WATCHER. Keepers of wisdom, and guardians and protectors of the Slayers and potential Slayers.
3 - HUMAN. Ignorant bystander? Or are you in on the secret?
4 - WITCH. You're skilled in the ways of magic. Maybe drifted into it through Wicca, maybe raised to sorcery or necromancy.
5 - A VAMPIRE. You're a creature of the night. Vulnerable to sunlight, fire, beheading and stakes, burned by holy water and crosses. You drink blood. Oh, yeah: and you have no soul. Evil is your business, though a vestige of your mortal personality might remain.
6 - A WEREWOLF. Turned into a wolf the three days around the full moon, burned by silver. Or maybe you've learned to control your animalistic side, and found a way to turn at will.
7 - GOD. All-powerful, and looking for humans to enslave.
8 - OTHER.

WHAT'S HAPPENING?
1 - THE APOCALYPSE. It's the end of the world. Are you destroying it or saving it?
2 - NEW KID IN TOWN. You just rolled into town. Looking for trouble? Well, too bad; looks like trouble's finding you anyway.
3 - HUNTING. Looking for prey? Or are you looking for the predators?
4 - CAPTURE. One of you is locked up. Vampire in a cage? Human ready to become food? Werewolf snatched by animal control?
5 - SHOWDOWN. Time to fight the big bad.
6 - THE COVER STORY. You're involved in something magical, and you have to explain it to the rest of the world.
7 - DAILY LIFE. Everyday life. Going to high school, the supermarket, video marathon. Even the small things can be magical.
8 - OTHER.

He sighed. He hated those questions. The end was always the same. He was human, he was a kid, so he must be useless. Or they figured he was safe since he was human and wanted more than just fieldwork.

"It doesn't have to," he explained quietly. "I can take 'er somewhere outta the way until after the trial, if ya want. Just takes a little more setup."

Lindsey regarded the young boy with further interest at the unusual solution. It wasn't exactly Wolfram and Hart's way of doing things and he suspected it was a personal improvisation. "If news of foul play was made, the best case it would unravel the whole case and set everything back to the beginning, and worse... I don't think I need to tell you that." But he wasn't saying no either.

The boy nodded emphatically. "I know, sir," he said quietly. "It's... a little harder but... sometimes they turn out to be assets if it works. I won't let anythin' get back to the wrong ears. Works best if ya make them want to go."

Lindsey crossed his arms over his desk and looked at the young man. "How would you propose that?" The boy was eager and, could it be, Lindsey sensed an underlying unwillingness to kill the target. He wondered if anyone else picked up on it before. That could be seen as a weakness here.

A playful grin crossed his face. "Vehicular manslaughter works pretty well," he quipped. They almost never think of running when there's a dead body and the cops show up. And, when they run before the cops get there, it's never to the courthouse."

For now Lindsey humored the boy with a show of mirth. "Where will you get the body for their slaughter?" The lad had his full attention now, iintriguing him with theese innovative ideas that was completely different from the way things worked around here.

"Me," the kid replied. "With a spell to keep me from moving and to make it look like my heart stopped. It worked last time."

"You?" Not turning down the boy yet, Lindsey pretended to consider as he proposed questions softly, like he was in court and guiding the witness towards the answers he wanted. "Are you prepared for the possibility that they may run you over for real when they flee?"

The kid nodded. "That's why I time it so the car knocks me off the street."

It had been something he'd dealt with with his handler before he tried it the first time. He already knew how much trouble he'd be in if he got killed. And that was something they could fix fast. Well, kind of fix. He didn't want to find out what that was like. A broken back would be even worse.

"That sounds like a lot of trouble. Wouldn't 'removing' them be easier?" There was the crux of the problem, wasn't it. Lindsey suspected that this boy with the strange resemblance didn't want to kill his targets.

"It's boring," Eliot replied. "Anyone can kill someone. There's no challenge to it."

[personal profile] hellsbestlawyer 2013-01-16 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Challenge? Is that your only reason?" Lindsey leveled a look on Eliot then, the same one he'd give an uncooperative witness. Most would cave.

"Well, there's more room for variety," Eliot admitted stubbornly. "I get tired of the same thing over and over."

The boy had resolve, that was a good sign and might just be enough to not get him killed. He wasn't fooling Lindsey though with his stubborn insistence of wanting 'variety'. Killers who wanted variety came up with interesting ways to kill, not creative methods to let them live.

"How do you plan on getting away after? They will take you to the morgue."

"Walk out after they close," Eliot replied. "My handler meets me there."

He really hoped this lawyer went for it. He honestly didn't like killing anyone. Sure, some people deserved it but he didn't want to bother with any of it. He just wanted to be a kid, go to school, maybe get a guitar.

Lindsey's expression remained stony and unchanged a he contented the various angles. The death of the witness mattered to him less than the death of this interesting boy. Something told him that the teen wasn't like the rest of their agents.

"You're not afraid they may schedule a same day autopsy?"

[personal profile] minitreiver 2013-01-20 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Eliot shook his head. "They only do that in really special circumstances. This won't be one."

Of course he wasn't like the rest of their agents. He was a boy forced to do a man's job. Most of the time, he didn't even like it. It would've been nice if he could have at least stayed in school.
hellsbestlawyer: (Attorney //)

Instead of his handler, Lindsey will meet him in the morgue.

[personal profile] hellsbestlawyer 2013-01-20 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Age was definitely a factor, but not the only one. The kid's spirit and confidence was. He was hiding something, that much Lindsey could see with the teen.

"Very well, you may do as you wish. I wish them to be out of contact for the court on Friday. After that, it doesn't matter."

That'll shake him up a bit

[personal profile] minitreiver 2013-01-23 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
Eliot nodded, already planning how he'd do this job. At least this one didn't have to die. "Yes, sir."

[Time skip?]

Time skip.

As planned, the witness didn't show up and when it was discovered that they bolted after a hit and run, the person became a wanted suspect and the credibility of the witness, and other witnesses by the prosecutors, were under question.

Lindsey knew at that moment that the case was won although there was still a week left of trial.

Night time. Using his credentials, Lindsey waited outside the morgue. He told the kid's handler he'll deal with the boy personally.

Eliot crawled out of the drawer and began rummaging aroundfor some clothes since his handler hadn't shown up with any yet. Not that he really expected to find any but the morgue was cold. He pulled the tag off of his toe and left the room in hopes of finding somewhere warmer to wait. Where was his handler? He'd never been late like this before.

It became a case of excommunication because the handler hadn't told Lindsey that he needed to be inside where the bodies were. He waited outside with the clothes, and wondered, why was it taking so long. Just as he began wondering if something might have gone wrong with the kid after all, he saw the door open.

"There you are." He held up the bag of clothes. "Your handler said you'll need these."
