Train to the After Life
tickets please

maybe you know how, maybe you don't. perhaps the memory is fuzzy, or perhaps it's crystal clear down to the look in your comrades' eyes. maybe it was your time; you've done all you wanted to. or maybe you weren't at all ready to go, maybe you went out kicking and screaming -- but none of it matters. you know you're dead, and the train is taking you to an afterlife. perhaps an afterlife of your choice; you might've earned that heaven. or perhaps you've earned something else entirely.

it'll be a bit of a journey, though, so you might as well take your time and talk to the other people in your coach. death knows no place: most of them are strangers, even from faraway worlds. but death knows no time either, so who knows, some of them may be people you know, even if last you knew, they were alive -- or long gone.

oh look, here comes the snack cart.

» POST with your character
» said character is now DEAD for whatever reason -- canon, au, what have you. they are on a train with other dead people from many other times, places, and worlds.
» characters don't know for a fact where they're headed -- just a general awareness that they're going to some kind of AFTERLIFE. whatever they think it is is up to the player.
» have FUN & TAG AROUND

TRIGGER WARNING!!
this meme obviously deals with death and may deal with other unpleasant themes as a result. please be cautious.

[ Peter stumbles when Tony draws him in, his mind still racing a mile a minute, trying to catch up with everything. ]

Dust, yeah. I... I died.

[ But if he's dead on this train, like everyone else seems to be, then even though the squeeze of his shoulders feels real, and Tony sounds real and alive across from him, then— ]

You're the one that shouldn't be here. Unless this is like one of those weird space-time probabilities that Dr. Strange told us about after he did that whole head spinning, green glowing thing back in space.

[ He draws back and shakes his head, a lump forming in his throat. He swallows thickly, trying to talk around it as the emotions bubble back up into his chest. ] I definitely went all dusty and you didn't, so... so if I'm gonna get off the train then you can, too. I mean it'd be cool not to have to do the whole fighting part again, but the winning part could be nice—

It's alright, he's going through a lot right now.

It doesn't stick. I know that sounds crazy but- it doesn't stick. You'll be fine, Pete.

[ He doesn't often make promises, especially after Thanos the first round but this? This is something he can offer easily. ]

Things...It's complicated. We win. Takes awhile but we win, you're there, you help. You help save the world, kid. The universe. How's that for your first real Avenging gig?

[ Tony slips back to sit, comfortable. There's no weight on his shoulders, here. No guilt. No nagging need to figure out the next problem, find the next answer. All of that- he's left it behind. Along with a whole lotta good and this poor kid but-

This is how it shook out. ]

You'll be fine. I promise. It's going to be okay.

[ Peter goes quiet, knowing too well that he should be listening instead of running over countless possibilities in his head. He takes another deep breath and scrubs a hand over his face.

He plops down beside Tony, staring out the window as flooded fields pass them by. It is pretty amazing that he gets to be apart of something so big, if that's how all of this pans out, but something still nags at him. ]

You're not coming back, are you, Mr. Stark?

[ He isn't sure he wants to know how Tony got here. And even if he wants to, he's not sure that he needs to. Time things can be funny, can't they? ]

I have a round trip ticket and you don't.

[ He's not sure what he wants to say next. Why? How? The words I'm sorry almost come out instead, but die on his tongue. ]
