"FAKE" FAKE DATING MEME
aka 'fake turned real'

Whether you're trying to make someone else jealous, trying to save a stranger from a creep on the subway, doing a spy mission, running a con, trying to get your parents off your back about being single at a holiday dinner, or any number of other reasons, fake relationships are a hugely popular trope. From there, the hook that sinks downward is that the best laid plans go awry; what started off as pretend turns all too real. Of course, that'd never happen to you, right?

...rrrrrriiiiight?

[Interested in a Carol? Maybe she needed his help for some kind of mission off-planet? I'm up for whatever!]

[My favorite kind! Lmk if you need anything changed and feel free to switch style/tense if you prefer something else. Also, wow, apparently I had a lot to say.]

When it's all over, when Tony has snapped his fingers and erased Thanos from the universe, nothing feels the same. This is both on a micro level (there are about twenty new/old Avengers and Guardians to meet) and a macro level (everything Carol did in space over the past five years that was held together by metaphorical duct tape is starting to fall apart).

There's a lot to figure out. Does she head back to space? Does she stay and help Steve reform the Avengers? There's a gaping hole without Tony and Nat, but Steve seems to know exactly what to say to bring everyone together and ready to step up.

That's why she leaves him and Talos-as-Fury to deal with the bureaucratic stuff while she visits the formerly snapped Rambeaus. While she's there, the actual Fury reaches out to ask that she go on a mission for him. The army he's building up there needs permission to dock on a moon and extract some raw materials. Carol hates diplomacy, but Fury knows exactly which buttons to press on her ego to agree. But of course there's a catch.

Thankfully Steve is agreeable to a trip up into space. They get some supplies and the right suits, tell Sam and Bucky to keep an eye on everything, and head out.

Carol levels off the space-ready quinjet and sets in their coordinates before turning to Steve in the copilot seat. "And, last thing, the planet we're headed to? Business is only done between romantic couples. So for the purposes of the mission, we're dating." That was the catch.
