kept A P A R T In Japan, Vega is sometimes called Tanabata (or Orihime), a celestial princess or goddess. She falls in love with a mortal, Kengyu (or Hikoboshi), represented by the star Altair. But when Tanabata’s father finds out, he is enraged and forbids her to see this mere mortal. Thus the two lovers are placed in the sky, where they are separated by the Celestial River, known to us as Milky Way. Yet the sky gods are kind. Each year, on the 7th night of the 7th moon, a bridge of magpies forms across the Celestial River, and the two lovers are reunited. Sometimes Kengyu’s annual trip across the Celestial River is treacherous, though, and he doesn’t make it. In that case, Tanabata’s tears form raindrops that fall over Japan. Your character is in love. How joyous! But there's a catch; there's always a catch. The two characters in each thread can only meet once in a certain designated amount of time. Is it every month? Every year? Every seven years? Every millennia? When they do get to meet - what happens? No matter what, it has to be bittersweet.

Kylo fumed, resisting the urge to just take his lightsaber to the table of his counsel chamber. He’d identified generals who wouldn’t actively seek to supplant him but he still couldn’t completely eliminate Hux. The man was insufferable and continually harped on about creating new super weapons. Unfortunately, it was too soon to have completely transferred the loyalty of his army to himself. And he couldn’t demolish the room because he had to deal with that paperwork now.

She could feel him long before the shape of him within the Force took root - that simmering rage beneath the surface seemed to send the air around her on edge. A traitorous pang of happiness at the familiarity of his silhouette crept into Rey's heart only to be firmly, stubbornly, batted aside, there was no room in the galaxy for something like that and she had become so adept at squashing any sign of harbored tenderness for him. "You seem well," she spoke up dryly from behind him, knowing that she wasn't being especially helpful with the remark, but not caring. He had made his choice.

He looked up as he felt her. "I am," he spat, determined to rub her face in the fact that her rejection hadn't harmed him.

He lifted his chin and smirked at her. "Better than you, from what I hear."

Rey took a moment and looked at him incredulously, her gaze sweeping over him. "Better than me? Really?"

Who was smashing things in a blind rage here? Above the maelstrom of feelings she had for him there was frustration. There had been a moment where Rey had almost been able to pull him free, only to see him collapse back into himself like a dying star. Still, she looked at him for perhaps a little longer than someone who seemed so aloof. "Was it everything you wanted then? Supreme Leader?"

"Who's come to help your Resistance friends?" he countered.

Not him, for once. He'd mastered some level of self-control in the last few weeks, at least when it came to equipment. It was... strange to restrain impulses that he'd been trained to indulge. But his past was dead now. The pain should ease, should let him focus on what he wanted to create with the First Order. "It's certainly better than I would have had if I left like you wanted. And the galaxy is safer for it."

Rey rolled her eyes, hating the way he had cornered her so perfectly, she would have liked to pick apart his argument and explain that being slaughtered by Kylo Ren and the First Order was in no way 'safer' but that wasn't why she was here.

"What do you want for the hostages," she sounded almost weary, not daring to entertain the prospect of what it was he would say to her.

“Hostages?” He frowned, genuinely confused. Clearly someone had acted on their own without reporting to him. “What hostages?”

Hux. It had to have been him. Or perhaps Pryde. He wasn’t much more fond of Pryde, to be honest but at least the older man seemed less obsessed with superweapons. He didn’t trust either of them. Even Pryde seemed... off somehow.

"So you can't negotiate with me, is that what I'm gathering?"

Rey frowned, unsure of what she had been prepared to give away for the freedom of her associates, though now she couldn't help but feel concern for Kylo.

"I don't know yet. What hostages are you talking about?"

He hadn't heard anything about any fighting between the First Order and the Resistance since Crait.

"We had some spies, your people found them-" Rey trailed off with a little sigh, frowning at him. "I'm here to barter for their freedom. Now what do you want?"

"The first thing I want is to know more." He hated that he couldn't even negotiate competently. Whoever failed to inform him about captured spies, hostages, and any other prisoners would likely be offered along with said prisoners. "How long ago was this? Where did you hear from them last? I can't do anything if I don't even know who or where they are."

"Your people took five of ours in a supply run gone bad somewhere by Felucia, we haven't heard anything from them in about a week but our intelligence points towards First Order business." Rey held out her datapad for him to see, letting him look over the pictures and names of the hostages.
