Forced Telepathic Bond Meme: I'm With Stupid
![]() ![]() Telepathy. The ability to hear the thoughts of others and pry into other minds. Suddenly, you have it. Or maybe you always had it. And now you're connected, for better or worse, to another person, for who knows how long. You can feel their thoughts and, more alarmingly, they can hear yours. You share dreams, you can feel them there constantly, you their joy and their grief. INSTRUCTIONS; 1.] Post with your character name, canon, and any preferences you may have. 2.] Try not to leave just a blank comment. Maybe write a little scenario about what your character is thinking or feeling, something their partner can pick up. 3.] Whoever tags you now shares a telepathic bond with your character. 4.] When tagging, you may roll 1-5 Extent and for How on the RNG if needed. 1. Sudden Onset Limited. It's a bond limited to exclusively you and your partner. 2. Sudden Onset Unlimited. You and/or your partner can hear the thoughts of others, but it's largely uncontrollable. And you retain a special bond with your partner that you can't block off. 3.] Experienced Limited. You've had your bond for a little while now, and have some experience with controlling it. Limited between you and partner. 4.] Experienced Unlimited w/o Partner. You've had telepathy for a while, but having a bond with your partner is new and confusing. 5.] Experienced Unlimited Partners You and your partner are pretty used to this, and either you, or both of you, can use telepathy on other people. 1. Genetic. Baby, you were born this way. Maybe you didn't know it because it was a recessive trait and only appeared at a certain age. Maybe it's a mutation. Your partner shares this genetic trait and, by proximity, you've been bonded. 2. Government. Generic "The government is responsible!" Either you consented or you did not, but you've been partnered by an act of your government... or someone else's. 3. Experiment. You started trying to just bend spoons and... whoops! It was an experiment. Either you planned it or an enemy/evil scientist is responsible! 4. Through Strife/Friendship. You got really close, whether by sharing a hardship/trauma or just being together and getting on. 5. Really Intense Sex. Smut option. Guess it was so mind-blowing that you literally connected minds. ![]() meme by ![]() |
La la la, just shoving Kirk in here like he belongs. XD
idek, let's roll with it
It has to be some side-effect of being thawed after more than 150 years of cryo-stasis. There's still no cure for his condition, but the world has certainly gotten interesting.
Tossing him into Academy classes might have been a little premature, but Bruce has found that there's nothing like the consistency of education to give him some grounding in a world that has gotten even broader and weirder than the one he left behind.
None of which explains why Jim reacted to his morning musings as though he'd been talking to himself.
And maybe if he studied more than partied, he wouldn't have that hangover.]

Muffled words from under the pillow:] Hey, the amount I party is equal to the amount I study.
[There's a moment of silence, and then Jim suddenly sits up. He's all bed-head and wide eyes as he peers down at his roommate.] What do you mean that wasn't out loud? You've been talking this entire time. Incessantly. About... coffee and the many-worlds interpretation.
[And what is that humming? Jim shakes his head as if that will clear it.]
no subject
He rolls his eyes at Jim's assertion about his studying, passingly reminded of another friend long gone before he pushes that down.]
I didn't--
[You're hearing my thoughts?]
no subject
I-- [Shit, is this real?] I'm not telepathic. In fact I'm pretty psi-null.
[Jim's mind starts to race, and there's an underlying current of sheer panic. He has so many things no one else needs to be privy to. Dark things.]
no subject
I'm not telepathic either. I've got enough problems without that in my lap too. [Sitting up to scrub his face and try to get his thoughts marshaled to avoid hitting Jim with anything he shouldn't know.]
What's different? Other than the telepathy. We have to know what triggered it.
[Calcutta at dawn, light violet-grey. It's like trying not to think of a white elephant.]
no subject
Shaking his head again, he looks around the room. Nothing's changed there. He doesn't feel any different beyond the sudden ability to hear Bruce's thoughts.] Can you hear anyone else, or is this just limited to us?
no subject
You know as much as I do. I haven't "heard" anyone else, but there's no way to know if there's a range on this other than going out there.
[He gestures to the door.] Be my guest.
no subject
Abruptly getting up, he heads for the door, throwing it open and stepping out. Completely uncaring of the fact that he's in Academy sweats and nothing else. A few other cadets stare but otherwise, nothing, not even when he pointedly squints at someone (and gets an odd look in return). He paces a few feet down the hallway to make sure.
Returning to the room, he closes the door with a shrug.] Seems to be something between us, unless no one out there is thinking. Which would make me seriously wonder about Starfleet's standards.
no subject
[He gets up to grab his civvies and pull them on over his boxers and t-shirt.] Like figuring out what happened. You're okay Jim, but I don't even want my girlfriend [Betty, long gone] having an all access ticket to my thoughts.
no subject
Jim forces his thoughts back on track, but not quickly enough to prevent a flash of an arena, screaming, bloodied hands.] Wait, so you're gonna -- what? Go across campus? Across the city? What if there's no limit?
no subject
Then we try shielding. [Raking his hands through his hair, he tries not to dwell on that glimpse of Jim's secrets. Every man is due his measure of pain and his privacy with it. God knows he has enough to go around. He turns his thoughts to what could disrupt whatever has entangled their minds this way.]
Occam's razor - we start with the simplest answer first. That's distance.
no subject
[At the mention of shielding, Jim makes a noise that's not quite human.] Shielding. Oh my god. Okay, wait. I know that. I just hadn't thought of it because, well, your thoughts are really freaking distracting. No offense.
[Moving to throw on a decent shirt, he continues to talk, mind racing again but in a different way this time. Ideas are connecting, expanding, and it's more like a light show of sensors going off than anything.] Shielding is basic technique taught here, what with all the alien species we're expected to encounter and who knows how many are telepathic. I haven't had any courses in it yet but I was supposed to start soon so I have some of the more basic information.
no subject
Is there anything we can do as a quick fix? Because if you think my thoughts are distracting it's just because you're used to the mess in your head.
[Not that his head's any better, he's sure. He has to feel a little sorry for Jim for-- la la not thinking about white elephants in the middle of the room especially not when the white elephants are decidedly green and angry.]
Is an anti-telepathy helmet too much to ask for? [Preferably without having to bring any authorities in on this. Who wanted to have the freak factor upped another order of magnitude?]
