The Train to the Afterlife Meme

 

 

 

Congratulations: You are dead.

Maybe you know how, maybe you don't. Perhaps the memory is fuzzy, or perhaps it's crystal clear down to the look in your comrades' eyes. Maybe it was your time; you've done all you wanted to. Or maybe you weren't at all ready to go, maybe you went out kicking and screaming - but none of it matters. You know you're dead, and the train is taking you to an afterlife. Perhaps an afterlife of your choice; you might've earned that heaven. Or perhaps you've earned something else entirely.

It'll be a bit of a journey, though, so you might as well take your time and talk to the other people in your coach. Death knows no place: most of them are strangers, even from faraway worlds. But death knows no time either, so who knows, some of them may be people you know, even if last you knew, they were alive - or long gone.

Oh look, here comes the snack cart.


All the usual:

• Post with your character's name and canon in the subject line.
• Said character is now dead for whatever reason - canon, AU, what have you. They are on a train with other dead people from many other times, places and worlds.
• Characters don't know for a fact where they're headed - just a general awareness that they're going to some kind of afterlife. Whatever they think it is is up to the player.
• This meme is built especially for cross-canon interaction, and potentially for threadjacking and group threading - if you're interested, may be a good idea to state as much in your subject line.
• Tag around and play nice!

[ He didn't know entirely why he was there. All he knew was that suddenly Amenadiel was at the gates of hell, telling he had to get to the train immediately. There was no time to waste. They had to act fast. If Amenadiel was willing to take over the watch of the gates instead of going himself, it was bound to be bad.

He wasn't prepared for just how bad.

In the space between one moment and the next, he stood at the back of the car. An unexpected but brief breeze inside the only thing to truly mark the arrival. And in the the next moment, it felt as if the floor fell out beneath him. He couldn't move, his hand gripping the back of the nearest seat to keep him upright.

ooc: It took him a while to be enough again to make it to the train, but he's mostly here now.

[time can be strange in the train to the afterlife sometimes, allowing for meetings that shouldn't quite be. that's how Xiao Xingchen winds up seated across from the man who died the Yiling Patriarch shortly before his rebirth, even though Xiao Xingchen shouldn't have come to the train until long after Mo Xuanyu drew that fated summoning circle. these things just happen sometimes.

it's not the most auspicious affair. Wei Wuxian's long since put himself back together too, at this point, but he still bleeds dregs of resentment now and then, the shadowy stuff trailing from his robes and the ends of his hair and occasionally sparking a glint of red in his eyes before it dissipates. he's draped sideways across two train seats with his face against the window, and looks quite tired, though he does glance at the people who come near him with a hint of interest every now and then.

perhaps none of this can be seen, but the resentment can certainly be felt.
