[A grin broke Jim's solemn expression. Without thinking, he grabbed Spock's arm and dragged him closer, positioning the Vulcan right in front of himself. Pointing at the same place, he spoke over Spock's shoulder, breath brushing against his ear.] From my perspective it's Earth. See?

[Spock froze in the embrace that he found himself in...

The breath that ghosted across his ear caused him to shiver. Only in his thoughts was he ever this close to his Captain...]

I...I see Captain.

[It will never fail to surprise him just how much hotter the Vulcan is compared to himself, to humans, and for a moment he found himself distracted by that thought before he realized how close he was, that he'd grabbed Spock. The Vulcan easily could have broken away though, so Jim remained right where he was.] You know, I learn something new about you every day it seems.

[Spock does not move from the semi-embrace... mostly due to shock, however he is also disinclined to remove himself...]

Indeed Captain? What would that be? [He makes sure his eyes stay on the starry curtain above them.]

I dunno, just... things. Little facts I never knew before. [He shrugged slightly.] You know, I was going to see if I could talk you into a dance and I realized I don't even know if Vulcans dance. Is dancing illogical?

[Spock lowered his head and looked over his shoulder... he was slightly confused... why would the Captain ever want to dance with him?]

It is not illogical. Vulcans do dance... though it does not happen often. However, as the son of an ambassador it was required that I learn the different actions required at social events... dancing included. I have been trained in most formal styles of dance...

[Spock turns around so that he is fully facing Jim... his back to the railing.
He tilts his head...trying to figure out the situation.]

[Spock's confusion was obvious, and Jim couldn't help finding it adorable. Not that he would ever tell the Vulcan he thought he was adorable. When Spock turned to face him, it left them bare centimeters apart. Closer than they'd ever been save the times one of them had shoved the other out of harm's way, or the times Jim leaned over the science station to see what Spock was up to.]

So, since you do dance, what are the chances I could talk you into one with me?

[Spock looks over at the crowd back in the main gathering room...then back to Jim's face...]

Very well Captain, I am amenable to this suggestion... however, I would rather avoid the crowd...

[Victory! He grinned again.] That's fine. We can dance out here. The music's still audible and it's prettier out here anyway.

[Though how to dance became a problem Jim deliberated. They were already close, and the music was slower, so he steeled himself and slung his arms over Spock's shoulders.] Is this okay?

[Spock's eyes widen, and his face stains green....

....and he has no idea where to put his hands....]

I...uh....

[Speechless Vulcan is speechless....]

[Spock was... blushing? Obviously such close and personal dancing wasn't part of what he'd been taught. Jim dipped his head to try to hide the way his grin widened.] Hold on to my waist, Spock.

[Spock found speaking at that moment rather difficult.... so he decided to just place his hands where instructed.

When he had said dancing, he meant the formal ball-room dancing... not this. But he was disinclined to mention anything.]

[Spock's hands are tentative, just barely-there contact at Jim's sides. They start to sway to the music, Spock just barely managing to keep them in time... Tense Vulcan was tense....]

[He could do formal ballroom dancing, but he preferred the more intimate forms, dances he could drag his partner against him and hold them. As they started to move, Jim huffed an amused breath against Spock's ear.] Relax. It's just us.

[Spock gradually relaxes in the embrace, his hands finally situating themselves at Jim's sides...

His head bows down a bit... but he shivers when he feels the breath cross his ear.
He cannot help the next word that comes out of his mouth that sounds suspiciously like longing....]

Captain....

[Feeling Spock relax some, he links his hands behind the Vulcan's head, resisting the urge to thread his fingers into the perfect hair. So close, he catches that shiver, notes that odd almost longing tone in Spock's voice. It makes his heart jump and before he can talk himself out of it he ducks his head along Spock's neck.]

[Spock breaths deeply when Jim moves his head in to the crook of his neck...and he momentarily loses himself.

Spock moves his hands so that they are now firmly resting at the small of Jim's back, and he leans his the side of his head on top of Jim's. He moves them gracefully across the balcony with his eyes closed... He does not want this to end...]

[Jim has the thought that Spock's hands feel right on the small of his back, and isn't that cliche. The Vulcan is warm, a solid heat against his front, along the side of his face. He subtly breathes in his scent. He smells exotic, alien. There are fragrance notes he can't quite place but he likes them.]

[Spock's graceful wide movements gradually become slower... and the space between them slowly decreases.

It isn't until Spock whispers Jim that he freezes.....

[He doesn't mind the fact that they're not really dancing anymore until Spock whispers his name (his name, not his title) and freezes up. Something always shoots through Jim's veins when Spock uses his name, though it's definitely never been whispered like that before.

He draws back enough to be able to look at Spock, concern and curiosity written all over his face.] Spock?

I... I apologise Captain. [Spock does not meet his Captain's questioning gaze...

He starts to back away from the embrace, his face flushed green.]

[Jim doesn't let Spock back up -- or at least he tries not to let him, locking his arms around his shoulders.] Spock, wait.

[Spock stops his retreat...

His expression is slightly confused... and anxious. He was waiting for his Captain to berate him for his actions.]

What-- [He has to pause to lick suddenly dry lips.] What's up? I mean... [How is it he can smoothly negotiate Federation terms and yet Spock always manages to trip him up?] Did I do something wrong?

[Spock's eyebrows crease...but his eyes manage to track that enticing tongue...] ....I was under the impression that I had done something wrong Captain...

[Jim shakes his head.] No. I don't think you're capable of doing something wrong, Spock, and not just because you're Vulcan. [There's a wry twist of his lips.] But you froze up so I figured it was something I did.
