[Part of this story is about a girl who fell out of a magic mirror, into a Romania that she didn't recognise and one where she's sure would've thought he was lying about. Wait, hang on, Romania is a he? Indeed, and she is Vietnam, but no one in this world knows that.

But it is for sure that she wished he was here now, someone who knew magic because he probably could've just done something about that mirror and they go back home. But instead, she, someone without magic, is stuck in this...is it a library? Who knows. Just that this place can be lit up by torches and who does that when there is a lot of paper around? All she knew was that she had to creep all the way out of this giant room until she ran all the way out of this mansion before she was detected.

Right, the hard part was over. She will never know how she got past a special lock, or how she managed to sneak out of a mansion undetected. Just that all of that may have been better than what she sees now. Open space, lots of trees, and absolutely no idea where she is and her GPS is not working because her phone has no reception (I wonder why).

Now, this girl, she hardly swears. But when she does, it's in her own language and right at this very moment, she might allow herself to dial it up to a twenty.]

[ when d returns to the castle dracula, there's no message, no prior information about who or what or why he is. he just shows up, horse rearing a little, and settles her down with a pat before tying her off.

it's taken him months to find where his father's castle has settled this time, but his search has paid off. after centuries of nothing there have been sightings of him, people claiming to have seen dracula on the roads at night, or staying over in inns like he belongs there. he never harms anyone, just moves on.

it's so different than what he remembers that he's set on this mission to see what's gone on. he feels tired, climbing the stairs to the large doors. he doesn't know what to expect. the doors part for him easily: he belongs there, after all, despite his absence. no safety measures trip, nothing comes to stop him, and he's at least glad his father hasn't disowned him entirely.

much is as he remembers. he first tries his father's study, but finding it empty he moves elsewhere. something stills him along the way, though: a portrait of a happy family.

the sentiment is familiar but the family is completely different from his own. vlad is still there, but the woman and child are... his mother had dark hair, as does he, and he was far more taciturn as a baby than this child appears to be.

he understands, suddenly, what must have happened, and he turns away.

part of him wants to leave, to make things simpler for everyone and just disappear again, but he's already made it this far. he heads down to the labs, telling himself that if he doesn't find him there he'll just go and leave it at that. but when he opens the door to the lab his father isn't there. instead is a woman, the woman from the portrait, and he falters, not knowing what to do.

d looks so much like a younger vlad: high cheekbones, a strong jaw. he's obscenely tall, too large for the room in any situation, but he looks... almost like a lost child briefly before he finally finds his voice to speak. to see a human in this castle that's not his mother...

he pushes that thought aside. ]
