[ honestly, this is a pretty big change. ando is dragging him to a social outing for once. hiro can't even imagine this being a remotely feasible option back in high school. but apparently, going through puberty and having women show actual legitimate interest in ando had changed his friend's mind. which doesn't mean his trusty weeb-of-a-companion is any less of a doormat. which is why hiro reluctantly agreed to come along. momentarily prying himself away from the books to actually socialize with a cluster of people he literally couldn't be bothered to care about.

because since this is an au, hiro hasn't murdered half of tokyo or whatever. and is still kind of functional... (half) human being. or at least has slipped under the radar with his murdering for the time being.

either way, he's here. FOR HIS FRIEND. and nobody else. currently, he's nursing a drink, keeping the dark corner of this frat house living room company as the rest of the party does things like... socializing. dancing. kegging. passing out. you know. hiro's eyes are half-lidded, not even bothering to feign interest when they rest on... shion. his high school ex. someone who he still has... significant interest in, but a person he realizes is far better off without him. unfortunately, she meets his gaze and almost instantly opens her mouth to greet him.

which is when, hiro opts to do the first thing that comes to mind. which is... grabbing the nearest human being (noct) and spinning them around, only to abruptly kiss them. he's aware that it has to be convincing, so being true to his sociopathic tendencies, he's giving this lip-lock a little bit of tongue.

No, Rosinante is actually pretty sure that's wrong. This is actually potentially worse than that time he almost got caught snooping through documents at the embassy of a foreign dictator while the man himself was visiting, because that was an almost and he still managed to get out of there intact even if he ended up having to leave his finds behind. This time, somewhere, somehow, he must have dropped the USB with the decrypt key and that is terrifying because in the hands of a particularly bright student, they could actually intercept and decipher instructions that should be for his eyes only.

Shit.

He shouldn't have even brought it, honestly, but keeping it on him seems safer than leaving it at home. It must have broken off his keychain earlier when he tripped over someone's backpack in the hallway. Or maybe it was when he'd spilled his coffee and then slipped on said spill. It could be anywhere now. But he's hoping it hasn't moved far, and has taken up a table at the library where he helps tutor students since he can also keep an eye on anyone who comes and goes. It's a well-trafficked area, maybe he'll spot it before he has to report in that he's lost it -

And it's precisely then that his eyes key in on that familiar shape, plugged into the laptop of one of the Mink students who has just pulled his computer out of his bag. Okay. Maybe he hasn't looked at it yet. It's not likely that just anyone could guess the password anyway. Right?

Trying not to look as agitated as he feels, Rosinante stands and walks over, adopting a look of neutral, casual interest.

"Is that USB yours? I got a report from another student who lost one, I'm trying to help them find it," he says.
