Being with someone can change your life. But what if you can't have your old life back? For your own sake, the sake of your relationship, or by no choice of your own, you have to leave the old you behind. It can go from anything to changing a behavior to changing your whole identity, and all of it can be difficult. One thing is clear, however; to continue where or as you'd lived before is not an option if you want to keep this person you care for in your life.
how to play;
- Comment with your character and preferences.
- Respond to others.
- THERE WILL BE QUESTIONABLE CONTENT. Just because it's a shipping meme doesn't means everything's fluffy; in fact, more options than not have some unfortunate implications.
prompts;
- Open Secret: You two have never specifically said who you are in this new place, though you've never denied it.
- Witness Protection: To protect your lives, you must live under assumed identities.
- Your Real Life: What you knew before was false. This is the actuality.
- After a Tragedy: All your friends are dead. Your group is shaken. You saw someone you love murdered. The only other person you have left is the one you're with.
- Second Chance at Life: After a brush with death, you've decided to do things right and actually live.
- I Don't Want this Life, Dean: You don't want to continue in the family business - er, in your old ways set up by someone else, so you cling to someone who can give you a normal life.
- Criminal: You did a bad thing and are wanted. For your protection and the safety of the one you lo...that person, you have to hide.
- Turning Over a New Leaf: You're genuinely trying to become a better person and you can't do that with the reminders of your old home and old life.
- Rehabilitation: Your lover is helping you get over your wounds, your traumas, or your flaws.
- Blank Slate: You have to have a new life because you don't know your old one! All you know is the person you're with and the things they can tell you.
- Partners in Crime: You two are rough around the edges, but you're reformed. Really, you just want a peaceful life!
- Old Habits Die Hard: No matter what your life is now, you can't shake the need to double check the locks or hold your magic wand tight.
- Guilt: You're guilty about your relationship, so you have to reside in hiding.
- Through Elicit Means: You got with your partner through cheating and you want to keep that fact on the low.
- Stolen Away: You stole your partner - from a bad situation or from someone cruel - so you have to keep your heads down
- Taboo:
- Incest: It's better for you to live where no one know's you're related.
- Age Difference: You can always fake IDs and birth certificates.
- Interspecies: There has to be somewhere that doesn't have the prejudices of your home.
- Tyrannical Government: You're political enemies drawn together. Perhaps you're working to undermine the government, or maybe you've escaped from that place and are living in peace.
- Pulled from the Darkness: Your previous life was so terrible, you don't want to even ponder it any more. End of story, it doesn't matter.
- Dependent: You don't know anyone else in this new world of yours, or you don't know how to navigate it, making you dependent on your partner.
- Protecting Them: You're with them and hiding them for their own benefit.
- They Don't About Your Past:
- Secret Monster: If they knew about who you used to be, they'd be disgusted and want nothing to do with you.
- For Them: You're dangerous to be around, so you can't clue them in lest an old enemy or your own abilities come back and harm them.
- Florence Nightingale: They found you and took you in to help you, no questions asked. You couldn't help but fall for them.
- Using Them: This new life is just a sham. You want them to be your camouflage, maybe even getting others to believe you've changed.
- Faked Turned Real:
Both of you were using each other for cover, but now...you're not sure.- Brainwashing:
- One-Sided: You love them and want them to believe that things have always been like this. Can you be blamed for going about it this way?
- Mutual: Both of you think you've always lived this life, thanks to outside forces.
- Who Am I, Really?: You love your partner, but you feel like you're losing yourself.
- WILDCARD

may the cheap angst begin
Today is the day Duo is officially discharged from the hospital, so Heero is taking him home. At least, this is the place where Duo's things are kept. Duo's shoes are by the door, his clothes are hung up in the closet beside Heero's, and all of his favorite junk foods are still sitting there in the pantry. Is it really a place that Duo can call home if he has no memory of it, though? Or will Heero's apartment just be the place he crashes at until they find somewhere that Duo can call his own?
There is still that tiniest bit of hope that being here might spark something for him, but... Heero Yuy has never been an optimist. Not even in his happiest days. That's why there's already a blanket and a pillow set out just beside the couch.
With a small duffel filled with Duo's things from the hospital slung over his shoulder, Heero opens the door, immediately stepping aside to give Duo the space to walk in as Heero toes off his shoes in the entryway in typical L1 fashion. Naturally, he forgets that he probably has to remind Duo to do this.
"Everything here is yours to use," Heero says, despite how unnatural it feels to be introducing his former comrade and lover into his apartment like a stranger.
hnnngggg
It feels like it's taken years, but Duo Maxwell is officially a free man again. A free man that doesn't remember much past his childhood, though he's gotten a few details about the war through other people. Not entirely surprising, considering Quatre had insisted on visiting and he'd gotten to meet Chang Wufei all over again and, predictably, getting in to a bickering match even if he didn't remember Wufei from the next man over. This very concentrated version of Duo Maxwell may not remember his traumas in life, may not remember the other men in their little 'group' - but he's still the same old Duo, just with a few more scars than usual and a single crutch to take the pressure off his still healing leg.
Those indigo eyes look around at everything as they walk up to the apartment, taking in their neighbors with the sort of confusion that seemed to confuse them in turn as they gave little waves and smiles. They hadn't been nearly social enough that anyone would stop to talk to them, of course, but, well.. they knew their raucous sex having neighbors, okay? Or well. Thought so.
Heero steps aside and Duo maneuvers for a moment before hobbling his way in, still looking around at the place with a wondering expression on that baby face with a few still fading bruises that had been particularly stubborn. If he notices Heero toeing off his shoes he doesn't make note of it, instead walking a little further in to take a look around. There's not much in the way of decoration, but it's a roof, and it's warm, and there's cushioned places to sit and/or lay his head so.. he's happy enough. "It's nice, Heero..."
Said as he's wandering farther in with his shoes on.

And, well. If stepping into the apartment really had given Duo some kind of epiphany about the life he'd built up and so suddenly left behind here, Heero had wanted that all to himself.
Of course, now their one chance for that moment had passed, and...
Here they were, Duo looking around at his obviously unfamiliar surroundings with wide-eyed curiosity, and Heero sucking in a quiet breath as he watches the man track dirt further onto the pristine carpeting with every successive hobble.
"Duo," he snaps it tersely even as the poor man is trying to compliment his new living space, but just as quickly Heero is trying to reel it and call himself down. Duo... doesn't always respond the way he once did to all of Heero's idiosyncrasies. It's like they're learning each other all over again, but without all of the machismo and Gundam pilot lone wolf bullshit to shield them from getting too personal, too fast.
Heero tries for something softer, and motions to the couch. "Sit. I'll take your shoes."

No sudden epiphanies seem to be happening at the moment. Not with the way Duo is looking at everything involved with the apartment as if it's an alien space ship or something, taking in little details and not quite paying attention to Heero's little cues about taking his shoes off. He's been trying to keep himself in line with things he's noticed about Heero, but it all comes down to the fact that he's forgotten a lot of the reasons that Heero is the way he is. All the difficult times that made him a bit more abrasive than others at times, the little things that can set him off.
Which is why he spooks slightly as Heero calls him in that terse tone, brows already knitting as he turns to look at him like he's shot him or otherwise insulted him. "Jesus. What?"
He isn't sure what he's done to draw such ire and, to be honest, he's a little off put. Yes, he's used to being shut down by a nun who was much the same in her ways of catching his attention, but maybe that's also why it chafes so much in the moment, too. He gives Heero a bit of a look as he then tries to divert in to something softer, as if annoyed to be reprimanded for something he hadn't even known about even as he hobbles toward the couch as bid. "I woulda just stopped had you told me."

For better or for worse, Duo before the accident had simply understood - without any need for apology or explanation - when Heero was intentionally being an asshole and when he was just being Heero Yuy. Understood, and accepted him, mostly as-is. Not without conflict, but they made it work, because they'd known they were more or less equally fucked up yet somehow they'd found something in each other.
Now? Heero is beginning to see how much he'd taken that for granted.
Duo is still Duo, of course. Heero can see that much in the pointed look the other boy throws him as Duo catches him in the midst of trying to tone it down. Heero gives him a bland look in return, but trails after him, even going so far as to kneel down and unlace Duo's shoes once he's sat so that Duo won't have to bend down.
"I know." And that's as far as Heero is going to get into admitting that little slip-up was his fault for neglecting the reminder.

Duo sits with a little bit of a cringe at the effort of sinking and then the collision with the couch. His body is still sore all over in different places, his leg still in the tricky part of healing where he no longer has metal sticking out of his leg for stability, but it can go wrong fairly quickly. The smallest problems could become big at a moment's notice, and considering that Duo Maxwell is ever Duo Maxwell and sitting still is a massive problem for him..
Well. Let's just say that Heero will find that he's just as hard to cajole to stay in place as ever, despite being down quite a few memories right about now. But at least Heero acknowledges it as Duo sinks in to the couch cushions with a few more deep breaths, taking the time to look around before he's moving to carefully toe off his shoes once Heero's done with them. All of this is so tiring, even if they've barely done more than catch a ride back to the apartment and come up to it, and he's trying hard to keep himself awake so that he can at least get a tour of the place before he settles in for a bit of a cat nap.
"Can I get the penny tour once my shoes are off? So I'm not wandering everywhere...."
