THE LIST! 01] baby Suddenly, there's a new addition to your family! Are you expecting? Adopting? Struggling to find the perfect name for your child? Or maybe you're up at a ridiculous hour in the morning because they're crying like crazy. 02] just married Congratulations! You and your loved (?) one are about to start a whole new life together! It's time for the honeymoon... 03] house hunting Are you seeking out an apartment? A dream house? Or just any old place, as long as you're with your other? Make sure to weigh your options very carefully... 04] household chores It's time to clean/cook/garden/take care of something! Do you work together, or does one of you hide until everything is done? 05] shopping Whether it's for furniture, groceries, or something in between, shopping is something that everybody must do at some point in time! What varies is if they like it or not. 06] family vacation WE'RE OFF TO DIDNEY WOOOOOOOOORL or wherever ... well, as long as the kids are happy, right...? You may not be happy (or maybe you are), but it's mainly about ~family bonding~. 07] romantic retreat It's you and your loved one's anniversary, and you decide it's time to take some time off and take them somewhere nice, where you only have each other. 08] comfort Is somebody sick in bed? Or perhaps they just had a bad day? Sometimes, a good breakfast in bed or a home-cooked meal can really lift the spirits! Or perhaps you want to try medicine, or laughter, or something else? 09] pet Suddenly, you have another addition to the family! Is it a puppy? A kitty? A fierce dragon? Whatever it is, make sure to give it a name and to take good care of it! 10] holiday Happy birthday/New Years/Christmas/Valentine's Day/whatever! It's a very special day that only comes once a year, so make it count! 11] argument Oh, no, who left the stove on... Or maybe it's about why they were out late last night? Either way, there is a lot of tension today, and one of you may or may not be sleeping on the couch tonight. 12] making up It's time to make amends for that fight/divorce/whatever you had before! After all, you love each other... right? 13] surprise, surprise You are feeling rather loving tonight, so you want to remind the other person how much you cherish and appreciate them... if it's by something cute and adorable or hot and sexy is completely up to you. 14] proposal SHUT UP THIS TOTALLY FITS You've been with your other for what feels like forever, and finally you want to tie the knot with them. Will you go down on one knee before them, or get a little creative? 15] other I know I'm forgetting like a bajillion and one different things here, so this is the option for that!

Chris raises one hand to his mouth, the other going to his hip. "This... I don't... God, Isaac." He runs a hand over his face, looking away. "How are we going to deal with this?"

"Deal? Deal with it?" He chokes on the words, trying to force them out despite the way they sting something inside of him. "I... Deal with it?"

Chris realizes a second too late what he's said. He drops to his knees in front of Isaac. "No, Isaac. That's not what I meant. I mean--look. Allison doesn't even know about us, and now there's a kid in the picture. I don't--I don't even know how this happened, let alone what to do now that it has."

Isaac sits up straight then, unconsciously putting space between himself and the older male. The words offer little comfort and before he even knows what he's doing, he has his arms wrapped around his stomach. "It doesn't matter how. It... it doesn't." Oh god, how had it happened?! "It's happened and we just... we deal with it." He couldn't help the way he spat the word at his lover, instincts already telling him to protectlovekeepsafe.

Chris doesn't flinch, but it's a near thing. He's tried to get Isaac to trust him, tried to get him to understand that he's never going to hurt him. But this--he's not ready for this.

"Isaac, this is a kid we're talking about. Even setting aside how it happened, even if we can somehow figure out all the complications of how you're going to carry this child--this is a kid. It would be our kid. Are you ready to be a parent?" Do you even want to be a parent with someone who's old enough to be yours? he thought but didn't say aloud.

Isaac wants to say yes, that he is ready, that it doesn't matter that he's sixteen and that he's younger than his lover's daughter who still doesn't know what's going on between them and that they shouldn't even be doing this. But he can't. Because he isn't ready. But...

"What other choice do I have? It'll probably be a wolf, so... so we can't give it up, can't leave that responsibility to someone else, leave a child with no clue what it is. And I can't... I can't get... " The word 'abortion' sticks in his throat and he gags at the idea of killing an innocent child.

"Isaac," Chris says softly, and reaches out to pull his lover into his arms. "If you want to do this... we'll figure out a way. If you're not ready--" please say you're not ready "--we'll figure something out then too."

Letting himself be pulled forward, he tucks his nose against Chris' neck, breathing him in and slowly uncurling one arm from around his still-flat stomach to curl around Chris' shoulders.

"I... I can't get rid of it." It wasn't him saying he was ready, but...

Chris holds Isaac close, breathing steadily and trying not to let his heart rate give away the fact that he's still terrified. "I know this is hard. But you're still a kid yourself. You shouldn't have to be a parent, not yet."

"Then what do you propose I do, Chris?" Lots of people became parents when they weren't ready for it. And he'd have the pack for support... Maybe? Of course that could change when they find out who fathered the baby. "I'm scared."

[dargent]

"I know." He probably didn't need to mention that he was scared too; Isaac would be able to tell from his heart rate, if not his smell. "Look. A normal human wouldn't know what to do with a wolf kid; someone from my family wouldn't be able to handle it. But... if you're not ready, maybe we can find a werewolf family for the kid."

The fact that Chris was scared only added to Isaac's own fees and he whimpered softly, clinging to Chris tighter. Everything was a jumble in his head; his wolf telling him that he had to protect the life he now knew was growing inside him but the human side was panicked, worried that he wasn't ready, would never be ready, to have a child.

Then there was the other side. "If... If I decide to keep it... Will you leave?"

That hurt. Chris's arms tightened around Isaac. "No," he said sharply. "No. I won't leave, no matter what you decide."

The reassurance was enough to have Isaac sagging in relief, a tension he hadn't noticed fading away. There's a breath that resembles a sob, but the Beta refuses to admit that it's because he wants to cry. "I can't decide now."

Darn it. See you soon.

Chris starts rubbing Isaac's back in soft circles. "Having raised a kid before, I can offer a lot of really good reasons to let someone else handle this one. A lot of really good reasons to keep it, too, but the thing is--this isn't an all-or-nothing decision."

"How isn't it all or nothing? We either keep it or we don't." His voice is a mumble against Chris' neck and he doesn't bother pulling away to make sure the older man could hear him properly. "You don't want it, do you?" The idea alone, that his baby's father didn't want it, made something in him shift and he suddenly felt nauseous.

Chris didn't answer for a long moment. He couldn't lie to Isaac; aside from the ethical problems with lying to his lover, Isaac would know.

"I don't think now is the time," he said finally. "I don't think we're in a place in our relationship where we could bring a kid into it. I'm worried about you if we do this, Isaac. Listen. We know this can happen now. If we decide not to now, we can try later, when we're ready. That's what I mean by it not being all-or-nothing."

Isaac stays silent for a long moment. There's the tell-tale stinging in his eyes that can't be mistaken for anything but the tears they are, but he doesn't let himself cry. "I don't know if I can carry it and then give it up. I don't know what to do." His grip tightens on Chris' back and he let's out another pained sound.

Chris's heart twists at that sound. He presses a kiss to the top of Isaac's head. "We'll figure it out. We don't have to decide right now."

"We won't have long to decide." Not if they decided to terminate. Isaac knew that the second he heard the heartbeat would be the moment he could no longer even consider that as an option.

[dargent]

"Not long still isn't right now." Chris stood and reached down to pull Isaac to his feet. "Meantime, you need to eat something--not just because you've been throwing it all up."

Isaac's numb as he lets the hunter pull him to his feet and he stumbles forward into him, squeezing his hands tightly. "'Kay."

Chris pulls Isaac close for another long moment, pressing another kiss to his temple, before leading him downstairs.

Isaac leans into the contact, and let's Chris lead him down the stairs. "I'm not hungry."

"Well, I am. So humor me, will you?" He's not, but the food will be good for both of them. "What do you want?"
