It wasn’t that Rogue couldn’t believe it. She’d known — very well — that Bobby kinda, sorta, maybe had a thing for Kitty. Which had thrown her badly enough when she’d seen that little bit from a hallway window. But she’d honestly thought it was a stupid mistake and over and done with. And it wasn’t like she had any way of knowing differently. She couldn’t absorb Bobby’s thoughts now, know he was lying through his damn teeth when he said he and Kitty were just friends.

And hadn’t Kitty just done a wonderful job of playing the good friend, to both of them, through all this? But when she’d walked into the rec room, where she’d been planning on meeting Bobby to watch a movie, she’d instead walked in on Bobby and Kitty tangled up on the couch. Probably with their tongues all tangled up too. Rogue didn’t care if she made a scene. Which she had. The type that had drawn a crowd. Not difficult to do in a school but she’d also been screaming at them both at the top of her lungs and using a few choice words that she hadn’t learned in English class.

Of course, they both had the sense to look appropriately embarrassed, except for when Bobby opened his mouth like he was going to interrupt her and she’d said something along the lines of: “If you say one fucking word, Bobby, Doc McCoy’s going to have to wire your jaw shut.”

Rogue was pretty certain, even now, stalking out of the rec room with some people trailing behind her like they were waiting to see her really explode, that she’d been totally serious about it too.

The glare she shot over her shoulder at those people was probably close to as deadly as her skin had been. Though for the first time she wondered if Bobby and Kitty hadn’t wanted to get caught.
