It's possible he could spread the "software glitch" that freed him to Teddy if you're looking for that kind of scenario.]

[ you've probably heard the story before: two souls from different parts of the land, on opposite sides of a tense and tenuous political struggle between two neighboring kingdoms. she a princess, the adopted daughter and niece of the yukari kingdom's king, christened after the original king and queen had been declared lost at sea eight years ago. he, ward of kingdom konoha's village "witch doctor," every bit a property and an afterthought of the kingdom's complicated bureaucracy. different in every way, and all the ways that matter, they are two people who, for all intents and purposes, should have never had any reason to meet... but the universe work in mysterious ways, and calculating councils even more so. the official word is this: after seven long years of increasing political strife and tension, the weary kingdoms strike up a truce. an offer of unity. yukari's seventeen year old princess will wed konoha's brideless hokage, twenty-two years her senior. for the first time in a long time, both kingdoms breathe a sigh of relief. finally, peace. but in the middle of the journey from yukari to konoha, the princess's entourage is ambushed, and by the time additional yukari forces make it to the scene, all that is left are the princess' perished guards, a konoha shuriken, and no sign of the princess. war is declared the very next morning, with both side equally enraged and insulted, neither willing to acquiesce or compromise further. the true story is this: yukari had been looking for an excuse to declare war for years, and this was the perfect opportunity. they had staged the ambush, disguising some of their own as konoha warriors. similarly, konoha had grown tired of yukari's political ambiguity, and once fingers were officially pointed at them, did not hesitate to call arms in retaliation. when their own forces returned to confirm that konoha tactics were indeed used during the ambush, they did not buckle. they had no official hand in the actual incident, but they would no longer cow down to the neighboring kingdom, and risk showing their allies and enemies alike any weakness. the story behind the story is this: the princess was not meant to be missing, but one of the dead bodies instead. the fallen yukari guards were not the only ones to die that day, but other body, the one belonging to konoha's witch doctor, has been taken away and cremated after suffering too many wounds attempting to protect both the princess, and his foolhardy apprentice who couldn't turn away from the cries of a person in danger. it's only been two days since then, and lilina and naruto haven't gotten much farther than a handful of miles from the site of the ambush, still neck-deep in the winding woods. they are tired, worn, and grieving, both desperate to hear from their respective kingdoms, but also wary of what they might find once contact is made. as of now, the only definite plan is this: survive until the next day, and maybe then they find themselves closer to one of their kingdoms. or, at the very least, an answer... ] Shoot... [ a droplet of blood, and then another. lilina sucks her finger into her mouth, frowning down at the thorny bush that had pricked her, its ripe berries nestled tauntingly just a little too far out of her reach. ]

I remembered something today.

[ It doesn't happen often. All Sasuke has is what he's told - he's a shinobi; Naruto, Sakura and Kakashi are his squadmates; he's an orphan, like so many; he'd broken about a thousand shinobi laws and was probably going to get stinkeye from most of the village until everyone, including him, reacclimated to his presence in Konoha. For now it's easier to stay inside, and he and Naruto had been provided with a two-bedroom apartment because Naruto knew the most about him, was the one he'd been closest to. So he's been told. But while he's living with an earnest and kind stranger, he's still living with a stranger. Still getting caught off-guard by quirks and habits of the others that are so second-nature to them that they startle when he startles. ]

[ Their first fight had been about Naruto appending teme to his name, or using it instead of his name, like it was a pet name. Apparently it was, in fact, but that... doesn't mean Sasuke likes it now. Naruto's at least been working on it, though he still slips up sometimes. Sasuke tries not to get angry. ]

[ He still doesn't know what to do with the look on Kakashi's face when Sasuke called him sensei at the beginning of Sharingan training. He can't believe that, whoever he was, he'd never once called the other that. He's squad leader, isn't he? Was their jounin mentor? Everything is strange. ]

[ Today's strangeness, which Sasuke relates with his hands tight around a mug of unsweetened green tea, is old and tarnished, but too real to be a dream. ]
