THE SURVIVAL HUNT MEME


INSTRUCTIONS:
1 - Post a comment with your character's name and canon.
2 - If you would like, write a note on where your character is and what they're doing.

WHERE ARE YOU?
1 - ISLAND. Out in the middle of the ocean, and no radio to transmit a distress call.
2 - WILDERNESS. Out in an endless forest. Maybe you got lost camping; maybe you're on a journey.
3 - DESERT. Sand. Cacti and scrub. You're gonna get real thirsty, real fast, and watch out for how cold it gets at night.
4 - RUINS. Ancient ruins, or is it an abandoned city? Either way, the wreckage of civilization may offer shelter.
5 - FROZEN WASTELAND. Everywhere you look, there's nothing but ice and rocks.
6 - SPACE. Alone on an alien planet, or drifting in a spaceship. How do you survive with only the materials you have around you?
7 - BATTLEFIELD. It's a war zone, and you're trying to make it through. How do you hide and stay alive?
OTHER.

WHAT DO YOU NEED?
1 - FOOD It might take weeks to kill you, but you're hungry now.
2 - WATER. Even more importantly, clean water, unless you want to get sick.
3 - SHELTER. It's raining, or snowing, or maybe you saw a tornado touch down a few miles back. Get inside now.
4 - WEAPONS & AMMO. Those zombies aren't far behind you, and your rifle's useless unless you have the shot for it.
5 - CLOTHES. Whether it's a heavy jacket and a good pair of boots or your buddies left you naked halfway along the Appalachian Trail, what you need is some clothes.
6 - HEAT. Time to build a fire, or share a blanket.
7 - THAT THINGAMAJIG. Got plenty of cans of food, but no can opener. Maybe your last pair of shoelaces broke. Maybe you're in desperate need of a pair of solar-charged batteries for your industrial-strength hairdryer. Either way, it's just one little thing that you need, and you can't seem to do anything without it.
8 - OTHER.

[Somehow, Soldier had managed to wrangle Scout to come along on a hiking trip. He'd said something about Scout needing to man up and get some hair on his chest, and he delivered this ultimatum when he had the city-boy in a headlock. It turned out to be a very persuasive method for getting the Bostonite to come along.]

This sucks.

[Of course, they'd managed to get themselves lost in the woods in record time, and for the past day or two they'd been wandering around blindly. To say Scout didn't prepare for the trip properly would be an understatement, seeing as he had stocked his messenger bag full of Bonk! Atomic punch, and nothing else.]

Time travel was supposed to be fun. You got dropped in the middle of ancient Rome or the American Revolution or Camelot, had a couple moments of nervous explanations, and then bam, instant town hero. Using your powers of pop culture knowledge and your booster-shot-boostered immune system, you'd soon be the power behind the throne, ruling justly and well until, tearfully, you had to return to your own time.

Nobody ever said anything about swarms of vampires.

And since when did the travel in swarms, anyway? Xander raced through the tall grass, heart pounding painfully in the back of his throat as the herd behind him moved in, hooting and jeering. Something caught his pant leg, invisible in the twilight, ripping through the thin cotton blend and scoring a line of red across his shin.

Worst fieldtrip ever.

The vampires following him scented the fresh blood, and the sounds of their pursuit grew louder as they drew closer. Crap, they were almost on top of him! Xander shook the cut off with a stumble and ran harder, fighting the stitch in his side, the burning of his lungs, and the growing panic that there was nowhere he could go, nothing he could...

But there... ahead, in that grove of trees... was that a light? Hardly daring to hope Xander headed for the distant flicker, his sneakers slipping on the dry grass and loose, dusty soil. Maybe it was a farmhouse. Maybe it was a train station. Maybe it was a trick of the light and he was about to die.

Let it be A. Or B! Or hell, option K! But C was a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad option -- let it be something other than C! ]

[What if the rebellion hadn't worked, and instead all of Panem had imploded on itself in war? The Capitol is a wasteland now, any remaining population hardened into survivalists who would kill you as soon as look at you, and there's a young girl who has just stumbled into it from District 3 looking for some sign of civilization.

But no, just like the districts, the Capitol is lost.

She wanders through the empty streets, sluggishly climbing over rubble with weak limbs when she must, a naturally skinny girl that is now nearly emaciated. She's also poorly dressed for the encroaching winter, a simple sundress hanging off her tiny frame and her feet covered only in sandals that have practically worn down to nothing.

[War spares no one. The underground ruins are not completely unfamiliar to him, though the enemy's 'adjustments' ensured that he would have no easy time navigating through. The water is wrecked with thick, sludge-like toxins and the air is pungent.

The old ivy and vines seem to be alive despite the awful environment, and the only light source? Mushroom patches. Karu felt sorry for any poor sap in here who might try to eat one. He's no herbalist, but some things just look unhealthy.

The chill air bites at his skin, threatening to numb his body and slow him down further. He rubs his arms together, tugging the hood of his tattered capelet over his head. Any heat that he can keep is precious...

Sometimes Music Meister wishes he'd chosen a different venue for his art. Atlanta, maybe. Memphis. Metropolis. Somewhere that didn't have a large preexisting quantity of weird dangerous nonsense.

He's still not sure what's happened to this part of Gotham City, but Poison Ivy is probably involved. At three in the morning the roads exploded with trees and grass, and a massive wall of brambles rose up to surround the area. Even helicopters can't make it down without being plucked out of the sky by thorned vines. There's nobody he can beguile to get him out of here, unless he finds the perpetrartor, and so he's as stuck as the rest.

At least his hypnotic voice keeps the looters off his back. Meister picks through the overgrown rubble of a convenience store, trying to find food and supplies. He keeps a careful eye out for other humans, but he doesn't yet notice the wolf.

[Miguel has only a vague recollection of how he and Tulio found themselves in the middle of a horrific battle. He's not even sure who's fighting who, to be honest. What he is absolutely, 100% sure of is that traipsing about in the crossfire is really not good.

To make things even more unpleasant, the sky's gone dark as a storm brews, complete with cracking lightning and booming thunder. Inevitably he and Tulio would be stuck in rain and mud with war raging around them and nothing but the giant rock they're currently ducked behind for shelter.

Despite all the horrible stuff going on around them, Miguel shouts over the howling wind and clanging swords and other generally displeasing noises:]
