The Council was dragging its feet and Claudia, always one for action, made the executive decision to take matters into her own hands. She would have thought brazen attacks in the capital city would have prompted the seven to get involved, at least in the name of keeping the capital (and themselves) safe and secure. But it would seem the few who bore long-standing and fresh grudges against the bloodline didn't care what collateral damage happened to the city and its people so long as the city itself or the Council weren't the targets.

Foolish, really. Neither she nor Titus or Alessandro would forget who directly or indirectly aligned themselves with those striking out at the trio. Albeit mostly at her, given she was the one with a throne at present. And in its way Claudia was fine with that as it gave her more license to strike back as she saw fit.

Which she did. Leaving Titus to see that the city didn't fall apart in her sted, Claudia and a few of her trusted guards fanned out to hunt down and eliminate the problem once and for all, will of the Council be damned. It took several weeks and more than a few bloody fights but she was nothing if not determined. Deep in the heart of Europe she found the source, a thorn in her side from the last Roman wars, and it was all too satisfying to at last rip out their heart and set the rest aflame.

Yes, there would always be other threats, but none had been so bold in decades. This too would send a message and make others think twice, with any luck for several decades as well.

While the companions for her hunt headed back for New York, her destination was different. Claudia knew her brother had gone back to his home country where he was safest, and yet held power no matter what young set of fangs called themselves ruler. Her dark clothes marginally hid dried bloodstains and her favorite broadsword was yet strapped to her back when she arrived at the palace. The first servant she encountered froze like a deer and stared with wide eyes, which made her laugh softly and wonder if she should have waited until she was fully healed (and cleaned up) before paying a visit. When she asked where Alessandro was in the native language the servant girl could only point, and Claudia headed that direction.
