[ Wanda never quite knows when he will come. She gets a coded heads up ─ something vague and hopeful, but never pinpointed. It leaves her with bated breath, discontented, but relieved. Her comfort with solitude has suffered these long months. She yearns and loathes, falling back on too few memories when it becomes unbearble.

The sun has long since sunk, the sky ripped opened by an aggressive storm, when a knock rouses her from dog-eared pages. The witch pauses, moves with only the faintest creak of worn wood, the air in her lungs hitched and held.

Caution colors her, but she dares, hand hoovering over the tarnished knob before it twists open.

[They all agreed: they needed to stay in touch, but only at a moment's notice. Keeping up with each other too closely could make it easier for someone to track them. Everyone sort of has to figure that Natasha knows what she's talking about.

But Steve has never been very good at following every order he's given, when his heart is telling him something different.

So he's on Wanda's doorstep, when he knows he shouldn't be. When he's not supposed to even know where she is. When he's soaking wet from a storm that is probably God's way of telling him he's playing a dangerous game. Steve knows that. He's not proud of being reckless, but that's never exactly stopped him, and when the door opens his very good reason is standing there on the other side of it.]
