[ the thing about space travel is that privacy is limited and things can be very easily shared whether one wants to or not. things like food and music, games, secrets, and apparently, illnesses. having been living alone on ego's planet for so long, it's all a new experience for her but she thinks this one is one she could do without.

she's tucked herself in a corner of the common area, a blanket draped over her head and shoulders to hide her antennae. what would be a normal cold for anyone else manifests itself differently for mantis -- she's exhausted, dizzy, outside emotions filtering in and out of her mind in varying degrees of clarity making her feel vaguely nauseated. she's distantly aware of peter saying something but she can't make out the words, peering out from the edge of the blanket to blink slowly at him. ]

... I'm sorry, what did you say?

[ it's hard to be annoyed that mantis wasn't listening to him when she looks as bad as he feels. peter lets out another pathetic groan and a loud sniff, leaning back against the back of the couch, a blanket mummy-wrapped around him from his shoulders to his knees, socked feet propped up on the table. he offers her a look of solidarity in their shared illness before muffling a seriously gross sneeze against the inside of his shoulder. ]

I said when Gamora comes out here with the soup, pretend it's delicious. [ it won't be. nothing gamora ever makes is even all that edible, but she tries, and he knows she has a lot on her plate with one-half of the actual adults on board out of commission. he usually cooks for everyone and it's something he's missing now even though gamora's attempts to take care of them and parent groot and keep the others from burning the milano down is ridiculously impressive. ]

[ the sneeze makes her wince, and she gropes around blindly for a box of tissues to press onto peter's lap. ]

It's not that bad.

[ peter's the one who tends to cook and no one's really questioned it. she knows rocket and drax vastly prefer peter's cooking but mantis likes gamora's cooking too, even if it tends to be hit or miss. gamora may not have the same talent in the kitchen as she does on the battlefield, but she tries anyway; mantis can taste the care and the effort she puts into whatever she makes. that's more than anyone else has ever done for her. ]

But... maybe you could try to give her some suggestions for improvement?

Good, yeah - that'll work. [ close enough anyway. his cooking isn't phenomenal or anything, but he's had to fend for himself for a long time. and now he has a ship full of people who need him. a family. his head lolls pathetically to his shoulder, ignoring the tissues. mostly because he can't feel his extremities. ]

I've tried, okay. She's really... sensitive about it.

[ He’s informed via text of Loras’ ailment, though who can say whether he's actually dying or just "dying"? He assumes it's the latter, but he isn't going to leave him to suffer alone. Not everyone is quite so fond of Roose Bolton’s slower, naturalistic healing methods, so he puts those thoughts away immediately and grabs a few basics for Loras on his way over. He does come armed with the usual ginger ale and flowers as well, though. He wouldn’t dare miss an opportunity now that he’s held to a standard. Always achingly polite, he knocks before letting himself in. ]

[ He feels like he's dying. Going abroad for a tournament had resulted in, at least, a first place win, but also in some sort of bug Loras picked up from God-knows-where along the way. All doctors have managed to do here for him is give him some penicillin and some care instructions and go from there. He knows he's lucky that his fever hasn't spiked enough for him to go to hospital, but, god, does he feel awful.

Domeric's voice is such a welcome thing. He groans a little from the couch, where he's bundled in blankets while some Netflix series plays on the television. ]

I feel like a goblin.

You don’t look like one.

[ Domeric gives a reassuring smile, striding across the room to kiss him on the forehead and to readjust his blankets. ]

What can I do? I can make you some soup if you like.

You're a liar.

[ Domeric's kiss feels cool against his burning forehead, though, and he manages a tired smile. He feels like all he's been doing is sleeping on this couch. ]

Would you? I'm starving.

[ He just hasn't had the motivation to eat anything much more than some soda crackers. And don't think he doesn't see that ginger ale. ]

Wakanda might have more advances than Steve could ever even hope to wrap his head around, but as far as he's concerned? Nothing helps being sick more than some good company and maybe some soup. It's why he's here, a lot warier and a lot less clean shaven, but he's here. "So, Buck--"

He starts slowly, stepping towards Bucky's bed where he's sat. He can't stop a smile, although it's not particularly joyful. He's not happy that Bucky looks like hell, not even slightly. It's just-- he's been there. Not anymore, not really, but before the serum.

"The tables have turned, huh? It used to be you keeping me company." He gives a wry smile.

"So, how bad is it? Cold, flu... pneumonia?" Nothing that he won't get over he's sure, especially with Wakandan medicine on his side, but it doesn't mean he can't be a little bit concerned, right?

"How the hell should I know?" His voice drags on like he'd swallowed a fist full of glass. Shuri assured them both that it was probably cryo sickness, but he doesn't recall having ever been this miserable from coming out of status before. Then again, he doesn't remember much of his time as Winter Soldier, it was all too much like watching a movie of someone else's life-- there but never really being the one in control.

But right now he's miserable enough to want to go back, especially if it meant he could get some damn sleep. Every time he tries he's left tossing and turning, exhausted but aching too much to get any real rest.

He appreciates Steve's company, he really does, but his oldest friend's cheerful attitude just makes him want to punch his face off.

He'll be fine. He knows Bucky will be. But he still looks pathetic and miserable enough at the moment that Steve can't help but give a softer, more sympathetic look. "Alright, hang on--"

He holds up a hand in a pacifying gesture. He can tone it down a little bit at least.

And he can also pour a glass of water for Bucky at least, pass it over to him. Maybe it'll help with the hoarseness. "Drink this. You'll feel better. They said you haven't been able to get much sleep..."
