O P T I O N S:

1) Greco-Roman - Togas! Tunics! Gladiatorial fights and getting stabbed right in the forum! (And that's really sensitive, you know.) Maybe you're in the recently-conquered Londinium, or maybe you've made your home in Pompeii and ... hey, do you hear that?

2) Medieval - Jousting! Pointy hats! Castles! Dormice inside of a rabbit inside of a chicken inside of a duck inside of a swan inside of a pig inside of a cow! Are you royalty, a peasant, or something in between?

3) Renaissance - It's a time of discovery and revelation! New scientific breakthroughs are being made every day, and incredible literature and poems are being written all the time. Perhaps you've made your home in Venice, and you're adding to the flow of progress - or fighting against it.

4) Victorian/Edwardian - Everything is repressed and a series of gestures with a fan can make or break a hopeful suitor's night. There are balls and salons and ridiculously thorough rules of etiquette. Are you solving mysteries with Sherlock Holmes or drinking absinthe in a bar by the Moulin Rouge?

5) 1920s - Flappers! Prohibition! Everyone's dancing the Charleston and watching these new silent movies. That is, unless they've escaped to Paris to drink a lot and write about the human condition. Do you party like the world's about to end or ponder what would happen if it did?

6) 1950s - Are you willing to leave it to Beaver? It's the time of adorable housedresses, three-martini lunches, and everyone owning a brand new refrigerator - on credit! Gee whiz, it sure is great, isn't it?

...wait, what was that about nuclear bombs?

7) 1970s - Disco! Margaret Thatcher! Drugs! The '70s are a time of social upheaval and change, not to mention leisure suits. Are you at the forefront of feminism or busting a move at the discotheque?

8) Present day - it's now! Everyone's got an iPhone and a Facebook and are constantly Twittering about their MySpace. People are more connected than ever, and the world is growing smaller and smaller every day.

9) The future! - The final frontier! Are we colonizing Mars or exploring the galaxy in a big, groovy spaceship? Have we made first contact yet? Has someone finally gotten around to inventing Holodecks? If you can dream it, maybe it's happened!

10) Got a different/better idea? Some time or place I didn't think of? This is for you!

S C E N E S:

1) Having a meal! With your family, your significant other, your best friend. Is it fit for a king or what you've managed to scrounge together from what's left?

2) A night's entertainment! Going to see a show at the Globe Theater, taking in a movie, or watching a troupe of performers put on a passion play - either way, it won't be a dull night.

3) Courting! Maybe you're in an arranged marriage, or necking in the backseat of your best guy's T-Bird at the drive-in movie theater.

4) School! Are you learning from Miss Emmeline at a one-room schoolhouse, taking notes on Latin from the tutor your father hired, or at a British boarding school?

5) It's a party! Maybe you're having a hell of a time at Studio 54 or giggling behind your fan at a ball with your best friend while you wait for the boys you like to ask you to dance.

6) Political intrigue! Is someone trying to stage a coup for your throne? Is your political rival trying to knock you out of the Senate?

7) Rivals! Maybe you're two lords fighting over the same eligible lady, or maybe he's picked on you since you were both kids growing up on the same block.

8) Family! You've got kids now, or maybe you are the kids. Perhaps you're out from dawn till dusk tilling the fields, or your biggest concern is making sure your daughters marry well.

9) Market day! Are you at the mall checking out the newest saddle shoes and cuffed denim? Are you making your way to the nearest town with sheep and cows to sell?

[Historical AUs are my jam! Newt is canonically from the 1920s. I'm open to playing from then/expanding on where he goes/what happens post-New York and before the time period of the second movie, or even the Edwardian era in which he went to Hogwarts! I'd love to throw him into any era, honestly, but Victorian/Edwardian, Medieval, 1920s, 1930s, and Renaissance are particular favorites. The Les Mis nerd in me would love to throw Newt into Paris 1832 for...reasons. >.>

I will admit upfront that I'll be slowish to tag this weekend as I'm busy but I should be fairly consistent after that.]

[ They're on a certain passenger liner, crossing the Atlantic and aiming for New York. It's 1912 and the sky is perfect, all dark and deep and glittering. Though Mona's freezing in her thin evening dress, she's smiling broadly, her face turned upwards towards the heavens as she spots them - the lion. The bear. And of course, beautiful Demeter with her grains and her life-giving cycles. Mona never grows tired of them. Any of them.]

It's so beautiful tonight. Thank the stars that we're here, now, at this very moment.

[She doesn't look over her shoulder at the other woman, knowing full well that poor Millie is seasick after two days at sea with only a brief stop in Ireland. It's an unfortunate problem but then again. When she's here, she isn't elsewhere, now is she? Causing trouble. No, because not even Millie has found a way to be in two places at once.]

[ Millie can't actually think of anything she is less inclined to do right now than thanking the stars. It's easy enough for Mona to say, because Mona is well-established in life and travels in graciousness and style, whereas Millie is serving as the maid and on top of that, she's horribly seasick, has been barfing four times since dinner just a couple of hours earlier. Her stomach is completely empty now, she'll no doubt be getting hungry again soon. Isn't life grand, isn't life spectacular and fantastic? Isn't it. She shrugs, disinterested, and lets her arms in their black uniform sleeves hang out over the railing, hands dangling in the air, fingers wriggling. The air is cool. Clear. It's starry above their heads.

The stars are beautiful.

She recalls another life, she doesn't know which, but it feels close in which she went by another name and had an odd installment between her legs, but she also got achingly close to fame. It's just flashes before her eyes, but Millie knows, Millie can sense it. She got closer to fame than ever before. Only to grow more distant from... other things.

Turning her head, she glances over at Mona in her pretty dress. She manages to look and pout at the same time. It's pure magic. ]

I'll tell them hello when I get there.

[ A short pause. The air feels almost freezing out here - Mona pulls her thin shawl with the large, hand-embroidered roses tightly around her shoulders, watching the way her pearls and precious stones glitter at the movement. Mm. Stars on the sky, stars on the wrist - what more can a girl possibly want from life? She glances over at Millie. Millie, who wants so much - so much, that not even the Gods can satisfy her. ]

You are glad to be here, yes? Sour grimaces aside? [ She drifts closer, closer, close enough to lean her lower arms against the railing (like a lady - oh, she loves this so much), their bodies now only about a hand's width apart. ] I mean, if not I can always just toss you over.

[ Spoken lightly, without aggression. She's seen Millie die quite enough times as it is and if the air's freezing, imagine the water! Oh no, she's not going in there and neither is her maid. Her darling, precious maid. ]

[ Mona's last sentence makes Millie withdraw her arms from their freefall, quickly - and she presses her hands to her chest a long moment while sending a dagger-full stare the other woman's way. Really? At this point? When she's finally beginning to establish herself, after all, being a maid isn't a far cry from being a famous cabaret singer in this time and age, is it? She could go the distance, the whole distance, the final few hundred miles. She could rise up. She could.

America will be a good place to do it, too. This is the one redeeming feature of this transatlantic trip by boat. By boat. ]

There's only one place I'd rather be than here and the ship's taking us to it.

[ It's said with a grumpy sigh; Millie will play her part until she can trade it for something better, grander. Today she might be Millie the Maid, tomorrow she'll sleep with some attractive constellation in the sky. Bridging the gap between their bodies, Mona's and hers, she reaches out and fixes the other woman's embroidered shawl where it falls across her upper arm, it's a quick brush of fingers against fabric, a layer away from naked skin, but it lingers. Even as the shawl stays in place. ]

[ The sense of proximity intensifies as Millie steps closer, fixing what must certainly be invisible creases in the shawl - the Chinese fabric flows against the body like water. Mona's breath catches in her throat, perhaps only half a second, at the quick brush of fingers only one layer away from her bare arms. Vulnerability is a heavy word between the two of them, carrying with it multiple definitions and implications. In this day and age, certainly, but in general as well. She smiles, gaze tracking slowly from one, dark wave-top to the next. ]

The land of the free. [ Her tone grows warmer, even as her body begins to tremble very lightly from the cold. ] And will you let yourself be free, Millie? Do you think?

[ She talks about the stars sometimes as if there's nothing else worth pursuing. Everything is a step in the same, tiresome process that invariably ends with Mona chucking her face-first towards yet another re-incarnation. It's not in her powers to make the other woman see reason, no, her task has come with many limitations indeed. All she can do is block the gateway. Again and again and again. She looks at Millie, her smile falling slightly. After all, she already knows the answer. ]
