There are ten of them that have asked me for repairs, mostly minor adjustments. They're very small, and they require very steady hands.

Clever little things.
Where did you find them?
no subject
They found me, actually. Word of a pair of steady human hands goes a long way through their collectives. You don't mind my mentioning you to them, do you? I'll see if they mind your help.

You know, I've never heard of a construct this sentient, never mind a group of them approaching a human and asking for help.
Does this happen often to you?

I have been lucky to find myself a friend of the servitors since I was young. I learned Simplified Machine Universal, to be able to speak with them. I don't know the language these ones communicate with. We spent time playing a round of charades -- naturally a challenge, when your physical forms don't match.

Now, Simplified Machine Universal - there's a language I've never heard before. Color me extremely fascinated. How does that go, exactly?

It is the language the servitors speak - how do you describe a language? It is... audiovisual in nature? They communicate through light and mechanical sound, and dialects vary from form to form. Kel Sparrows sing when they communicate, as they're often fond of music, especially ours.

I've much to learn it would seem.
Have you spoken with them for most of your life? Is it a common thing where you're from?

The servitors achieved sentience long before I was born. I grew up lucky to count them as friends and companions, I would say it's as natural to me to learn to speak their language as it was to learn the high language of the empire. Haven't you learned languages other than your native tongue, de Rolo?

[ not the destructive ways he's used to. one day he'd like to change that. shift gears, as it were. ]
I was privileged enough to learn Elvish in my studies when I was young, as they make up for a good part of the population in our world. And Celestial as well, though that proves itself seldom useful.

"Elvish", I can understand. It's sensible to speak a majority language. So, why did you pick "Celestial", if it wasn't useful?

Best suited to song and scripture. It's a strange language, one I don't believe suits me, but it's aided me a total of once... which I suppose is better than not having done anything for me at all.
