Ah, amnesia. The old standby for soap operas, it usually involves a good knock on the head and a complete loss of memory. Ever wanted to do that to your character? Well, now's your chance.

1. HEAD-ON COLLISION - ...whoops. It was an honest mistake, really! You didn't see that car/tree/post/person/whatever coming, but now you're stumbling out of the wreckage sans memory. Better ask for help.

2. WAIT, WHO ARE YOU? - Okay, so a while ago, you got into...something that caused you to lose your memory. Fortunately, you managed to get by and create a new identity for yourself. Unfortunately, someone new has just entered your life. Or should I say, someone who's a little too familiar...

3. RINSE AND REPEAT - Sigh. Really, this is just so inconvenient. You wake up everyday with no memory of who you are, and have to figure it out over the course of the day, only to fall asleep and have to do it all over again the next day. Good thing someone's there to help you out, right? And what's with all those post-its and notes?

4. THIS ROOM'S TOO WHITE - Welcome to the hospital. You've got an "Unknown" tag on your wrist, a healthy diet of bland hospital food, a steady trickle of doctors coming in to check up on you, and a TV, and nothing else. Looks like someone's coming to help you today, though! Here's to hoping they knew you before you lost your memory.

5. I'M SUPPOSED TO DO WHAT?! - Oh, crap. There's something only you can do right now--that is, the you who didn't lose your memory, anyway. Better figure out a way out of this mess and how to control your strange abilities before it's too late.

6. FIGHTING FOR THE WRONG SIDE - Uh, oh. Looks like your enemies decided to take advantage of your confused state and convinced you that you're on their side. Here's to hoping your allies can get you back to yourself before you cause some serious damage.

7. JUST TOO TRAUMATIC - You just saw something that's so traumatic you lost your memory because of it. Unfortunately, right now, you have to remember it, or else something really bad happens. Hope you don't regret remembering this!

8. I DON'T WANT THIS - You've been living a peaceful, ordinary life, for a while. And you'd rather it stay that way, because you're not sure if you'd want to remember what went before. Unfortunately, something's coming, and the key to stopping it lies in your memories.

9. NO SUCH THING - Maybe you were a wizard, or a werewolf, or an angel, or a demon, or something else entirely before, or maybe you just knew about the masquerade. Sadly, you've been knocked on the head and now believe yourself to be a perfectly ordinary person. Magic? That doesn't exist, right? Anything can be explained with science, after all! Right?

10. I'M WHO?! - And who the hell are you? Basically, this is the wild card option! Combine one of the above or make up a new one or whatever you want! Go wild!

 [It takes too long to find Taako. Too long, even though she's been out of the hellhole she called an umbrastaff for fifty-seven hours and twelve minutes -

but who's counting?

She doesn't know if all the deities are the same here, but Lup thanks every one she can name that the dumb fucking adventurers who went into Wave Echo Cave and tried to take her umbrastaff got angry when she rejected them and broke it.

Freedom, at the hands of idiots. At least it's fitting.

These dinky punks were scared away by her nearly dropping them all in one hit, and the gauntlet's still safe, at least. Lup still brings the pathway down as she leaves just in case, and then she's off.

The Starblaster is the first thing that tips her off, that stuff isn't right. Or really, that there's no Starblaster. In its place there's a bunch of farmers who run screaming from her when she tries to ask them if they saw a huge fucking sky ship.

Rude.

Well, she does have a skull for a face, but still.

From there she keeps looking, peering from the other plane, but she can't find anyone. She doesn't even hear about the relics, there's just this silence that pervades.

There's no one. There's just no one, except Taako.

It sort of figures that she finds him first. Or, well, finds  notice of him - there are flyers everywhere in town, Sizzle It Up with Taako, advertising for shows and dates.

Luckily for her, there's a newspaper nearby that tells her what day it is and holy fuck she's been gone for eight years.

That's... fucking terrifying, and Lup dematerializes as she freaks the fuck out and there's news about a vengeful, fiery ghost that's haunting Phandalin, apparently, and business booms for the local antique shop.

(Barry, in Neverwinter, hears the rumor some time later. Being in a human body, he takes no notice.

Even later, he'll freak the fuck out too.)

Lup makes for the city as soon as she can, and calms down in the meantime. Sure, they hadn't found her, but to them? Eight years isn't so bad. They've lived ninety-nine never-ending, and even if the human members of the IPRE will be older, it'll be okay. In a way, she's glad - the hunger hasn't gotten to them, and there's no mention of the relics. Maybe it's okay.

It's late afternoon by the time she finds the town, and it takes even longer to find the right caravan. But--there's the logo on the side.

There's someone she doesn't know cleaning up some chairs and shit outside, but inside--her brother. Probably.

And there he is, getting ready for bed. Lup stays on the other side for a long moment, heart aching, but then she grins and moves into the mirror. She's got an idea, and it's a dick move, but what's her job as a sibling if not to fuck with her brother?

Lup waits until Taako turns his head to glance at the mirror, and then materializes so - in his view - his face is replaced by a hooded skull.

Sabretooth.

[ That's the name that he knows, so that's the name Logan's going to use for him, even if another is hanging on his tongue. Victor had come to him so abruptly, so suddenly, so completely out of nowhere as he sat alone in his self-induced solitary life, and from then on Logan was obsessed with finding him again.

There is so little he remembers from his life still. But now as he looks at Sabretooth -- at Victor Creed -- he imagines cutting his hair and shaving his beard a little, and the dull ache in his chest tells him the memories can't be figments of his imagination.

Even this feels familiar: being in a bar in some hole in the middle of nowhere and interrupting Sabretooth as he nurses some drink or other. Logan doesn't yet remember the details of it, but he remembers enough that he wants to bring Victor home. ]

It had all happened so fast. A garbled distress call made in the middle of the night, a golden door just beginning to fade away from existence. Freshly returned from his most recent deployment, duffel bag still slung over one bandaged shoulder, Nyx hadn't so much as hesitated before leaping through... only to find an apartment in disarray and no Midnighter on the other side waiting for him.

That had been well over a week ago. Nyx doesn't know how to get home on his own, and he doesn't know how time translates from this Earth to Eos, so he just- tries not to think about it, puts the whole mess out of his mind while focusing on the task at hand. No matter what, he has to find Midnighter. As for how long Midnighter had been missing-- nobody really seemed to be sure, could have been one week, could have been three. The man is usually all over the place, as Nyx well knows

Research and intelligence gathering has never been his greatest strength, but Nyx can do his damn job when his puts his mind to it, starting with Midnighter's friends and taking it from there, doing what research, digging, and asking around he can manage without attracting too much attention. Luckily, he has access to Midnighter's apartment and the fresh, crisp rolls of twenties printed by the wad from their last jaunt around Midnighter's world. Spend enough money, and apparently something always shakes loose.

After a few false leads, all of that digging leads him here: Turnspic Medical Research Facility, an unmarked white building a couple hundred miles and several states away. Nyx had left the rental car parked at the closest Carl's Jr. about three miles off and warped the rest of the distance, appearing on the second floor with a sound of crashing glass well after hours. Doesn't take fucking long to realize that 'medical research' seems to be only the tip of the iceberg here at Turnspic-- there are rooms containing rows of strange multi-limbed creatures floating in large cylindrical tubes, snarling creatures with ink black fur and jaws dripping venom that snap at him from stacked cages. Nyx flips through papers with abandon, trying to access every computer terminal available. Most are locked, but between a password written on a post-it and a lone scientist ambling back and forth between her computer and the lab, he gets lucky, finding comments on a recent delivery from about two weeks ago with a note requesting adamantium shackles, along with references to an Asset M, kept in isolation in the west wing of B5.

A careless researcher and their keycard in a locked drawer grant him access to the elevator. Nyx steps out into B5 and the light is almost immediately blinding, stark fluorescent lights and sterile white as far as the eye can see, down a long corridor with a dented white door at the end and a narrow slot at about eye level, its pieces fitted with thick clear glass and heavy metal.

Heart sinking in his chest, Nyx walks right up to it, sliding the slot open.

"...M?"
