Hey, can you tell me what year it is?

Ah, amnesia. The old standby for soap operas, it usually involves a good knock on the head and a complete loss of memory. Ever wanted to do that to your character? Well, now's your chance.

1. Comment with your characters!
2. Others comment. Optionally, go to RNG and roll the scenario. (As to who gets knocked on the head, well, that's up to you!)

4. PROFIT.

1. HEAD-ON COLLISION - ...whoops. It was an honest mistake, really! You didn't see that car/tree/post/person/whatever coming, but now you're stumbling out of the wreckage sans memory. Better ask for help.

2. WAIT, WHO ARE YOU? - Okay, so a while ago, you got into...something that caused you to lose your memory. Fortunately, you managed to get by and create a new identity for yourself. Unfortunately, someone new has just entered your life. Or should I say, someone who's a little too familiar...

3. RINSE AND REPEAT - Sigh. Really, this is just so inconvenient. You wake up everyday with no memory of who you are, and have to figure it out over the course of the day, only to fall asleep and have to do it all over again the next day. Good thing someone's there to help you out, right? And what's with all those post-its and notes?

4. THIS ROOM'S TOO WHITE - Welcome to the hospital. You've got an "Unknown" tag on your wrist, a healthy diet of bland hospital food, a steady trickle of doctors coming in to check up on you, and a TV, and nothing else. Looks like someone's coming to help you today, though! Here's to hoping they knew you before you lost your memory.

5. I'M SUPPOSED TO DO WHAT?! - Oh, crap. There's something only you can do right now--that is, the you who didn't lose your memory, anyway. Better figure out a way out of this mess and how to control your strange abilities before it's too late.

6. FIGHTING FOR THE WRONG SIDE - Uh, oh. Looks like your enemies decided to take advantage of your confused state and convinced you that you're on their side. Here's to hoping your allies can get you back to yourself before you cause some serious damage.

7. JUST TOO TRAUMATIC - You just saw something that's so traumatic you lost your memory because of it. Unfortunately, right now, you have to remember it, or else something really bad happens. Hope you don't regret remembering this!

8. I DON'T WANT THIS - You've been living a peaceful, ordinary life, for a while. And you'd rather it stay that way, because you're not sure if you'd want to remember what went before. Unfortunately, something's coming, and the key to stopping it lies in your memories.

9. NO SUCH THING - Maybe you were a wizard, or a werewolf, or an angel, or a demon, or something else entirely before, or maybe you just knew about the masquerade. Sadly, you've been knocked on the head and now believe yourself to be a perfectly ordinary person. Magic? That doesn't exist, right? Anything can be explained with science, after all! Right?

10. I'M WHO?! - And who the hell are you? Basically, this is the wild card option! Combine one of the above or make up a new one or whatever you want! Go wild!

[It takes too long to find Taako. Too long, even though she's been out of the hellhole she called an umbrastaff for fifty-seven hours and twelve minutes -

but who's counting?

She doesn't know if all the deities are the same here, but Lup thanks every one she can name that the dumb fucking adventurers who went into Wave Echo Cave and tried to take her umbrastaff got angry when she rejected them and broke it.

Freedom, at the hands of idiots. At least it's fitting.

These dinky punks were scared away by her nearly dropping them all in one hit, and the gauntlet's still safe, at least. Lup still brings the pathway down as she leaves just in case, and then she's off.

The Starblaster is the first thing that tips her off, that stuff isn't right. Or really, that there's no Starblaster. In its place there's a bunch of farmers who run screaming from her when she tries to ask them if they saw a huge fucking sky ship.

Rude.

Well, she does have a skull for a face, but still.

From there she keeps looking, peering from the other plane, but she can't find anyone. She doesn't even hear about the relics, there's just this silence that pervades.

There's no one. There's just no one, except Taako.

It sort of figures that she finds him first. Or, well, finds notice of him - there are flyers everywhere in town, Sizzle It Up with Taako, advertising for shows and dates.

Luckily for her, there's a newspaper nearby that tells her what day it is and holy fuck she's been gone for eight years.

That's... fucking terrifying, and Lup dematerializes as she freaks the fuck out and there's news about a vengeful, fiery ghost that's haunting Phandalin, apparently, and business booms for the local antique shop.

(Barry, in Neverwinter, hears the rumor some time later. Being in a human body, he takes no notice.

Even later, he'll freak the fuck out too.)

Lup makes for the city as soon as she can, and calms down in the meantime. Sure, they hadn't found her, but to them? Eight years isn't so bad. They've lived ninety-nine never-ending, and even if the human members of the IPRE will be older, it'll be okay. In a way, she's glad - the hunger hasn't gotten to them, and there's no mention of the relics. Maybe it's okay.

It's late afternoon by the time she finds the town, and it takes even longer to find the right caravan. But--there's the logo on the side.

There's someone she doesn't know cleaning up some chairs and shit outside, but inside--her brother. Probably.

And there he is, getting ready for bed. Lup stays on the other side for a long moment, heart aching, but then she grins and moves into the mirror. She's got an idea, and it's a dick move, but what's her job as a sibling if not to fuck with her brother?

Lup waits until Taako turns his head to glance at the mirror, and then materializes so - in his view - his face is replaced by a hooded skull.

Taako!

[This isn't even close to Monica's worst nightmare. She's seen too much. She's been mentally scarred and had to fight broccoli people. THIS? This is just ☠️☠️☠️☠️ ANNOYING.]

[This space is not Taako's, not in any way that would make sense to his sister. There's a lot going on, admittedly, and the fading light makes the details pop a lot less. The caravan is pristine--not in terms of cleanliness, like Taako dusts, but simply empty of any personality, the kind of bare, easily vacated space the twins occupied when they were kids on the road, when possessions and letting any hint of personality shine through just slowed you down, exposed you. No magical clutter of any sort, nothing but a cheap wand on the desk-cum-vanity with crap handfeel but an ebony sheen that looks pretty decent from a distance. The wardrobe options are all packed away, no evidence of elaborate sewing projects or mounds of shoes. No one has idly turned the window panes into pink tourmaline or the bland trim to lapis and platinum in a fit of boredom. There are no hilarious prank items stowed in the corners--admittedly, that was a Magnus thing, but a constant one. Taako as Lup knows him couldn't possibly live here.

But he is there, or what's left of him, perched stiffly on the insufficiently padded stool built into the floor. He's not sure about that show. It's not nerves. Nerves are for losers with feelings. But city audiences are a little harder. They're not distracted by novel concepts like "use a spice" and "more than one kind of oil" and they can get judgy. No hecklers this time, but he's amazing at heckler banter. He's afraid--not afraid, considering the possibility for purposes of streamlining future performances--they were bored.

As if anybody could be bored by Blanquette de Veau. And Taako. Nope. Not a chance. Never in a million bajillion. He refuses to concede the possibility, and if there's a bit of tension in the motions as he frees his hair from its painfully casual updo, that's... Probably a curse or something. One in eleven pearl onions is cursed. Look it up.

He's otherwise down to robe and slippers, only a few smears of stage makeup missed in a quick scrub-down along the side of his nose. He doesn't need the mirror at this point, so the glance takes a moment.

But Taako always needs a mirror a little bit. He turns his head to watch that really good bit where the last lock of hair is free of its pins. Someone should fucking paint that.

[That bit of totally coherent Taako-ism is accompanied by a ray of frost. A child's spell, flimsy and pathetic without the help of even the crappy little wand. Taako should have been embarrassed by that one when he was fourteen.

He's actually rather pleased with himself. Better reflexes than most chefs, right? There's nothing to tell him he should have blasted anything short of a demi-lich through the wall with a startled defensive spell, any more than there is to tell him who he's firing at.

Hopefully that squeal'll bring Sazed this way sooner rather than later. Screaming is undignified.]
