Caught in the rain

It started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm. Time to find cover. Nothing much to do but to wait it out.

Scenarios listed below for those who want 'em.


i WHERE:
001 PLAYGROUND - Well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK - Always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT - Better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of.
004 THE BEACH - Not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm.
005 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it.


ii HOW:
001 TREE - Not the best cover, but it'll have to do, stay close to the roots and you won't get too wet.
002 UMBRELLA - Most conventional... Kinda boring. But it works.
003 NEWSPAPER - Not permanent, but it'll have to do. Good luck.
004 BAG - Well... y'gotta do what you gotta do.
005 NONE - You know what. You're a rebel. You don't need cover. Screw convention.
006 WILD CARD - that's the way you need it.


iii WHY:
001 REJECTED - Welp. Rejection sucks. And no one will see you crying in the rain.

[The best way to avoid home is to never go back at all... Of course that's impossible. But he can still make it last as long as possible, by staying at a playground a few blocks from his house.

It's not intense rain just yet, but it's starting to get there, considering the wind's howling and the way the pitter-patter gets louder and heavier.

If he was reasonable, he'd just go home, but sheer stubbornness keeps him on the swing- and then he looks up and catches sight of familiar green hair.]

Midoriya?

[uglycry]

[ Deku just needed a space to clear his mind. He's always dreamed of being a hero and now that his dream is coming true so quickly, he needs time to digest. His training isn't over, and he decided to spend some time on Dagobah beach.

It's only when the sky darkened prematurely overhead that he knows he should have chosen differently. In fact, while some might enjoy the rain, Deku is running full speed through the city to get back home.

He almost misses the voice and pauses at the corner of the little park, his satchel over his head, though it's doing little to shield him from the rain. ] O-oh! Todoroki, it's raining!

[ ... Captain obvious, standing and getting rained on more and more as every second ticks by. ]

[glaciers]

[Shouto looks up at the sky like it wasn't already obvious enough with the rain hitting him while he's not under any cover.]

I'm aware.

[But he still doesn't want to go home, so he'll walk to Midoriya's side.]

We should find a shop until it lets up.

[He'll just casually invite himself along for now.]

[uglycry]

[ Deku blinks at Todoroki for a few seconds. It's not that he minds the other boy tagging along, but to be sitting in the rain like that? It can't be fun. ]

Oh, right, maybe there's one up here that will let us in.

[ Never mind the clap of thunder overhead that only warns them that the rain is only moments away from becoming a deluge. ] Come on, let's hurry!

[glaciers]

[Better than home when his father is there.]

There should be an awning at least.

[He's sure there are at least a couple of flower shops that way. He usually stops by before going to his mom.

But he'll make sure to keep his stride in line with Midoriya's as they make they're way out of the downpour.]

[uglycry]

[ He walks with more urgency, peering around at various shops. Some awnings are already occupied, people taking cover after the first big crack of thunder.

The sky rumbles again and slowly the rain begins to fall harder and harder. ] There's one up there! [ He points to a little corner shop and picks up his pace. It's for naught, though, as the skies open up all around them. His book bag is going to get wet, and with all of his school items in there, he can't allow that to happen. ]

Come on, I think we can make it! [ False optimism! ]

[glaciers]

[They aren't going to make it before the rain gets worse and Midoriya's stuff is all with him. It's unfortunate, but it's probably the best chance that they have.

So he bolts toward the awning and hopes they make it before they get even more drenched than they already are.

They make it there, but they're still completely drenched in rainwater.]

... We'll be able to wait it out. [But Midoriya's stuff is a casualty of the rain.]

[uglycry]

[ Deku's hair hangs in his face and he stands beneath the awning miserably once they make it. ]

I didn't know it was supposed to rain this hard! I wonder if it's a quirk...

[ What an interesting ability that would be: rain making. He's sure it exists somewhere. ] Do you think it's going to stop?

[glaciers]

[Shouto takes off his uniform jacket and scowls at it. He could probably dry it out with his left side...]

I think it's too widespread to be a quirk.

... I don't know how long it's going to go. We might want to look for an umbrella.

[uglycry]

Mm, you're right. It would be difficult to control, wouldn't it?

[ Fascinating all the same. Deku shifts his bag in his arms, frowning at how wet the covering on it is. It could be worse. ]

My home isn't that far, we could probably make it if we went awning to awning. [ He grins, half joking and half serious. Buying an umbrella when everyone on the street has the same idea? Might be difficult. ] We could race. [ Also not the most responsible idea, but hey, he's trying to make light of a damp situation! ]

[glaciers]

It's not impossible, but if it was a quirk it would need to be targeted to a specific location.

[He looks over at Midoriya for a moment, considering a few things.

He's not opposed to a race but...]

Would your family be okay with an unexpected visitor?

[uglycry]

My mom might be at work still, but she wouldn't mind. I think she's wanted to meet some of my friends for a while now.

[ She is so supportive and excited and terrified for him, so why wouldn't she want to meet some of his schoolmates? Even so, it's raining and they need to find more permanent shelter! ]

It'll be fun.

[glaciers]

Alright. [That sounds like it'll be fine. Of course, he's never been to Midoriya's house before so...]

I'll race you.

Which way is it?

[uglycry]

About six blocks, then a right. You'll see the apartment building. Can't miss it. Ready?

[ Deku enjoys the challenge, and it's better than sitting outside in the rain. ]

Go! [ He takes off, quirkless to start, laughing. ]

[glaciers]

[And off they go! Shouto doesn't use his quirk for this, but he's faster when they're not using their quirks.

He's getting drenched, but at least there's the promise of shelter soon enough.]

[ For all the training Deku has had, he's still not as fast as Todoroki. But he can try. ]

I'm gonna win, you know! [ He's definitely not. But they're soaked through to the bone, so what does it matter now?

He tries to level with Todoroki, and stomps right in a deep puddle beside him, splashing them both. ]

no worries! i think you're doing great

[glaciers]

[He snorts at the declaration. This is a straight race, there's nothing Midoriya can use to properly gain an advantage- or so he thought.]

Midoriya!

[He's not foolish enough to turn back but he's definitely going to do something once they're at the apartment.

Maybe Midoriya is ticklish.]

[ Deku can't help but laugh. ] This next corner!

[ The building appears on the right, and for all of their running, the rain only seems to fall harder. When they make it into the front awning of the building he runs right for it, nearly running into the wall when he stops. ]

We made it. [ Never mind that he looks like he's dying, he just needs a second to catch his breath. ]

[glaciers]

[Shouto leans against the wall and takes a deep breath. He doesn't need too long to collect himself before playfully glaring down his friend.]

I can't... believe you made us even wetter.

[So he'll start his slow, semi-menacing advance.]

[uglycry]

But we have somewhere dry to stay now. I can make us cocoa and get us towels here.

[ There's a method to this madness. They're past the point where towels might help, however, but all the same. He closes his eyes as he tries to wipe water off of his face. If only his hair would stop flopping into his face! ]

[glaciers]

[His eyes narrow, he continues his advance...

He goes for Izuku's sides and starts tickling.]

[uglycry]

[ He might expect something like this from the others, but not Todoroki. He lets out a shriek and immediately tries to dodge the hands. ]

H-hey! You won the race, I give up! [ He very nearly steps back out into the rain trying to avoid Todoroki's sudden attack. ]

[glaciers]

[He doesn't exactly make use of his playful side, but Midoriya has a way of opening him up.

But since Midoriya is in danger of going back into the downpour instead he'll just try to grab his arm and pull him back to the safety of the covered area.]

As long as you give up.

Don't go back out there, you'll catch a cold or something.

[uglycry]

[ Deku stumbles backward, bumping into Todoroki. ] A-ah! Sorry! Thank you.

[ He laughs a little and peeks back out at the rain. ] I don't think the rain will do anything more than it's already done, though. We're soaked. I guess a race wasn't such a good idea, huh? [ He grins and moves to the door. ] We can dry off soon.

[glaciers]

[ Shouto gives him a pat on his shoulder for his troubles. It's not like he really minds Izuku bumping into him that much. ]

It wasn't the worst idea. Besides, we got here faster. So we can dry off faster too. [ He takes a step so he's just behind Izuku and the door. ]
