Caught in the rain

It started out quietly, and then, quite suddenly, you're caught in a storm. Time to find cover. Nothing much to do but to wait it out.

Scenarios listed below for those who want 'em.

i WHERE:
001 PLAYGROUND - Well, you can try to hide under the slide or maybe in the jungle gym... at least you're some place fun?
002 PARK - Always happens, caught outside trying to take advantage of the weather... and it ends up pulling a fast one on you.
003 STORE FRONT - Better hope they have an awning you can take advantage of.
004 THE BEACH - Not exactly the best place to be during a rainstorm, however it is possible to get caught in a sudden storm.
005 WILD CARD - Anyway you want it.

ii HOW:
001 TREE - Not the best cover, but it'll have to do, stay close to the roots and you won't get too wet.
002 UMBRELLA - Most conventional... Kinda boring. But it works.
003 NEWSPAPER - Not permanent, but it'll have to do. Good luck.
004 BAG - Well... y'gotta do what you gotta do.
005 NONE - You know what. You're a rebel. You don't need cover. Screw convention.
006 WILD CARD - that's the way you need it.

iii WHY:
001 REJECTED - Welp. Rejection sucks. And no one will see you crying in the rain.
002 WAITING - For the bus? For someone else? For some revelation? What are you waiting for.
003 MELANCHOLY - Sometimes the best place to feel a bit down is out in the rain.
004 HAPPINESS - Is everything going your way? Are you singing a refrain while walking down the lane? Just singing. Singin' in the rain.
005 ANGER - WELL YOU KNOW WHAT. SCREW YOU TOO, RAIN.

[Shouto takes off his uniform jacket and scowls at it. He could probably dry it out with his left side...]

I think it's too widespread to be a quirk.

... I don't know how long it's going to go. We might want to look for an umbrella.

Mm, you're right. It would be difficult to control, wouldn't it?

[ Fascinating all the same. Deku shifts his bag in his arms, frowning at how wet the covering on it is. It could be worse. ]

My home isn't that far, we could probably make it if we went awning to awning. [ He grins, half joking and half serious. Buying an umbrella when everyone on the street has the same idea? Might be difficult. ] We could race. [ Also not the most responsible idea, but hey, he's trying to make light of a damp situation! ]

It's not impossible, but if it was a quirk it would need to be targeted to a specific location.

[He looks over at Midoriya for a moment, considering a few things.

He's not opposed to a race but...]

Would your family be okay with an unexpected visitor?

My mom might be at work still, but she wouldn't mind. I think she's wanted to meet some of my friends for a while now.

[ She is so supportive and excited and terrified for him, so why wouldn't she want to meet some of his schoolmates? Even so, it's raining and they need to find more permanent shelter! ]

It'll be fun.

Alright. [That sounds like it'll be fine. Of course, he's never been to Midoriya's house before so...]

I'll race you.

Which way is it?

About six blocks, then a right. You'll see the apartment building. Can't miss it. Ready?

[ Deku enjoys the challenge, and it's better than sitting outside in the rain. ]

Go! [ He takes off, quirkless to start, laughing. ]

[And off they go! Shouto doesn't use his quirk for this, but he's faster when they're not using their quirks.

He's getting drenched, but at least there's the promise of shelter soon enough.]

[ For all the training Deku has had, he's still not as fast as Todoroki. But he can try. ]

I'm gonna win, you know! [ He's definitely not. But they're soaked through to the bone, so what does it matter now?

He tries to level with Todoroki, and stomps right in a deep puddle beside him, splashing them both. ]

[He snorts at the declaration. This is a straight race, there's nothing Midoriya can use to properly gain an advantage- or so he thought.]

Midoriya!

[He's not foolish enough to turn back but he's definitely going to do something once they're at the apartment.

Maybe Midoriya is ticklish.]

[ Deku can't help but laugh. ] This next corner!

[ The building appears on the right, and for all of their running, the rain only seems to fall harder. When they make it into the front awning of the building he runs right for it, nearly running into the wall when he stops. ]

We made it. [ Never mind that he looks like he's dying, he just needs a second to catch his breath. ]

[Shouto leans against the wall and takes a deep breath. He doesn't need too long to collect himself before playfully glaring down his friend.]

I can't... believe you made us even wetter.

[So he'll start his slow, semi-menacing advance.]

But we have somewhere dry to stay now. I can make us cocoa and get us towels here.

[ There's a method to this madness. They're past the point where towels might help, however, but all the same. He closes his eyes as he tries to wipe water off of his face. If only his hair would stop flopping into his face! ]

[His eyes narrow, he continues his advance...

He goes for Izuku's sides and starts tickling.]

[ He might expect something like this from the others, but not Todoroki. He lets out a shriek and immediately tries to dodge the hands. ]

H-hey! You won the race, I give up! [ He very nearly steps back out into the rain trying to avoid Todoroki's sudden attack. ]

[He doesn't exactly make use of his playful side, but Midoriya has a way of opening him up.

But since Midoriya is in danger of going back into the downpour instead he'll just try to grab his arm and pull him back to the safety of the covered area.]

As long as you give up.

Don't go back out there, you'll catch a cold or something.

[ Deku stumbles backward, bumping into Todoroki. ] A-ah! Sorry! Thank you.

[ He laughs a little and peeks back out at the rain. ] I don't think the rain will do anything more than it's already done, though. We're soaked. I guess a race wasn't such a good idea, huh? [ He grins and moves to the door. ] We can dry off soon.

[ Shouto gives him a pat on his shoulder for his troubles. It's not like he really minds Izuku bumping into him that much. ]

It wasn't the worst idea. Besides, we got here faster. So we can dry off faster too. [ He takes a step so he's just behind Izuku and the door. ]

[ Deku smiles and guides them up a flight of stairs and to the apartment. He unlocks the door, finding the lights are out. His mother isn't home just yet, which means she might not fuss as much about two soggy boys trailing water onto the floor. He toes out of his shoes and sets his bag beside it, frowning a little. All of his things will be so damp! ]

My room's on the right. Come on. I can give you some clothes to wear while yours dry if you want? And a towel. I can't believe it rained so hard. What were you doing, sitting on the playground?

[ Shouto places his bag next to Izuku's and starts unbuttoning his shirt without particularly thinking about it while following him into his room. ]

You're much smaller than me. [ Just in case he happened to forget the 10 cm difference between the two of them.] I'd like a towel.

... I didn't want to go home yet.

[ Smaller or not, Deku's compulsion to help others overrides details. Besides, a dry t-shirt can't go too awry. All the same, he fetches several towels from the linen closet in the hallway. He offers one to Todoroki. ]

Oh. [ He smiles, despite the situation. ] Well, you can stay here a while if you want. Besides, we'll have to wait the rain out, anyway. I can make us some cocoa or tea. Something warm will be nice. [ He moves to his dresser all the while peeling his wet shirt off. He nearly gets it stuck over his head. ]

[He takes the towel and starts rubbing his hair down- it sticks up every which way now that it's drier than it was a few minutes ago. But he makes no effort to try and flatten it down.]

Thank you, I would. I'm sorry to impose.

[There's a short pause.] Do you have green tea? I like that best.
